How To Find Joy From Your Relationship With God | How To Deal With Pandemic Problems, pt 1 Sep 14, 2020
    Show notes

    Psalm 119:143 NLT
As pressure and stress bear down on me, I find joy in your commands.
For such a time that we are in, we are given an incredible opportunity to not tread water spiritually, but to take advantage of everything that’s going on - to learn and to transform.
Our relationship with God does not need to be limited to our times in the morning. There’s a joy that comes from getting out of our own heads and make an extension of our relationship with God be doing things for people.
Join Russ as he speaks to his friends Dave and Kimi Traver about how to find joy from your relationship with God.

    Ecclesiastes 2:22 Voice
What exactly do people get out of all their work and all the stresses they put themselves through here under the sun?
What is influencing you the most during this pandemic? Has it been the news, discouragement, your emotions, or God, the Bible, and spiritual friends? We need to be friends who challenge each other to not be so fixated on ourselves and our problems, but to look outward and care about others.
Join Russ as he talks to friends John and Cecilia Coyne about how to manage your heart during the pandemic.

    Proverbs 17:1 Voice
Better to gnaw on a bit of dry crust in peace than to feast in a house full of stress.
In the midst of dealing with the ongoing stress of 2020 and the pandemic, it can be easy to just want to run away and hope all of our problems will be magically solved. But no matter where we run, our stress doesn’t leave us. Rather than focus on reducing or ignoring stress, each of us needs to focus on where God is taking us, using our passions to do good for others.
Join Russ as he talks to friends Austen and Kokeb McDonald about how to manage your home during the pandemic.

Why Guilt Drives Us Away From Our Friends Feb 20, 2020
    Show notes

My guilt has overwhelmed me; like a load it weighs me down.
    Psalm 38:4 NCV
Guilt is the enemy of intimacy. When we don't deal with our guilt, it can feel like a load that weighs us down, and often overwhelms us. Rather than driving us to relationships, it can be easy to allow guilt to isolate us and drive us away from our friends. Guilt gets in the way of us being intimate with God and with people and makes us seek help somewhere other than relationships. God wants to help us be close to him and our friends, but to do so we must resolve our hearts of guilt. Join Russ and friends as they discuss the importance of valuing intimate relationships over avoiding guilt.

Why It’s Hard To Get Deep? Jan 01, 2020
    Show notes

[46] “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? [47] As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like. [48] They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. [49] But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”
    Luke 6:46-49 NIV
Jesus uses this parable to show us that having a foundation for our lives that is strong, stable, and able to withstand any storm requires depth. By digging down deep, we start the process toward having a faith in God that is not easily shaken. However, depth takes work. It is not a personality trait or a natural talent, but rather a skill that must be worked at and developed over time.
When our goal is to look good and feel good about ourselves, we will skip over this necessary work, and end up like the man who build his house with no foundation. We need God and friends to help us overcome our fear, denial, and avoidance of depth if we are going to have a strong faith that makes a difference.
Join Russ and friends as they discuss how to deepen our faith to make a difference, and discover with them the importance of depth in our relationships, understanding, emotions, love, and conviction.

Dealing With Doubt To Overcome Difficult Times Dec 25, 2019
    Show notes

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, [3] because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. [4] Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
    James 1:2-4 NIV
Though in the moment our difficulties may feel like they are too much we can handle, God uses them as opportunities for us to grow. If we let him, God can use our difficulties to develop our faith to be mature, strong, and able to withstand anything. While doubt is beginning to accept an unacceptable outcome, this faith pushes us to never settle and become who we are meant to be.
Join Russ and friends as they discuss the article, "7 Examples of Trusting God in Difficult Times to Inspire You," and learn from characters in the Bible how God used difficulties in their lives as opportunities for growth.

The 4 Denials That Stop Your Faith From Doing The Impossible Dec 18, 2019
    Show notes

Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” [20] He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.”
    Matthew 17:19-20 NRSV
Before we are able to move the mountains in our lives, we must first acknowledge these mountains. When we live in denial of what we are struggling with or having a hard time overcoming, we get stuck, settle, and are never able to do the impossible God is ready to help us achieve.
Join Russ and friends as they discuss the new article, "A Holiday of Faith," and acknowledge the mountains they themselves have been denying in order to move forward toward achieving the impossible with God.

Your Anxious Striving Is Making You Angry Dec 14, 2019
    Show notes

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. [7] Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
    1 Peter 5:6-7 NIV
Worry and anxiety are hard to shake. Since they often cling onto us and don't let go, the Bible says to cast and throw them off, because God is taking care of us. Before we can get rid of our anxiety, we must first understand how our worries manifest themselves. Do you ever feel overly agitated and irritated, but don't know why? Oftentimes, anger and frustration are masks for unresolved anxiety.

Staying Focused On What Really Matters In The Midst Of Worry Dec 11, 2019
    Show notes

Jesus continued from there toward Jerusalem and came to another village. Martha, a resident of that village, welcomed Jesus into her home. [39] Her sister, Mary, went and sat at Jesus’ feet, listening to Him teach.[40] Meanwhile Martha was anxious about all the hospitality arrangements. Martha (interrupting Jesus): Lord, why don’t You care that my sister is leaving me to do all the work by myself? Tell her to get over here and help me.[41] Jesus: Oh Martha, Martha, you are so anxious and concerned about a million details, [42] but really, only one thing matters. Mary has chosen that one thing, and I won’t take it away from her.
    Luke 10:38-42Voice
In this scripture, Martha's worry and stress makes her focused on the wrong things. She is so fixated on getting everything done and checking on her to-do list that she loses sight of what really matters - our relationships, especially our relationship with God. When we get caught up in the stress of life, we miss out on the peace and contentment God really wants to give us. We must decide to dig deep in our hearts to find the source of our anxiety and worry so that God can relieve and heal us.
Join Russ and Nick Straw as they discuss Nick's article, "A Bible Study on Staying Focused (for the Chronically Anxious)," and how to get focused back on what really matters.
