    Show notes

    Tickets: https://saddest.day

The Road to Saddest Day continues with Stephen Brodsky of Cave In.

In Part 1 of our conversation, Jacob Bannon sits down with Stephen to trace the history of Cave In from the very beginning. They talk about Stephen's introduction to music, discovering guitar, his earliest bands, the formation of Cave In, and the New England hardcore community that surrounded them.

They discuss Cave In's early years, Stephen joining Converge, the connections between the two bands, the making of Until Your Heart Stops, and Cave In's continued evolution through Jupiter, Antenna, Perfect Pitch Black, and the years that followed.

The conversation also looks at the friendships and creative relationships that shaped Cave In throughout its history, ultimately leading to the passing of Caleb Scofield in 2018.

Part 2 will continue the story from there.

Road to Saddest Day is an ongoing series of conversations with the artists and people taking part in Saddest Day 2026.

    Tickets: https://saddest.day

The Road to Saddest Day begins here.

In the first episode, Jacob Bannon and Nate Newton of Converge sit down with Josh Smith of The Bowery Presents to talk about the history of Saddest Day, its roots in the New England music community, and why the event is returning in 2026.

They discuss the original Saddest Day, finding a home at Roadrunner Boston, and building an event that goes beyond a traditional festival. From the lineup and two distinct Converge performances to live art, vendors, nonprofits, and the importance of creating a community-focused experience, this conversation explores the ideas behind Saddest Day and what they hope to create together on December 12 and 13, 2026.
