Episode 83: The Halloween Disappearance of Cindy Song Oct 29, 2024

Show notes

Hi friends—on today’s episode, I do about a 17-minute catch-up where I share all the good, the bad, and the spooky from my weekend, plus some Halloween updates and random bits I couldn’t resist throwing in. Then, we dive headfirst into a chilling true crime story that’s perfect for the season: the Halloween disappearance of Cindy Song.

Episode Description:

Imagine going out for a night of Halloween fun, costumes and all, only to completely vanish into thin air. That's what happened to Cindy Song, a bright and hopeful Penn State student whose life took a mysterious and terrifying turn on Halloween night in 2001. Dressed in a playful bunny costume, Cindy was last seen returning to her apartment in the early morning hours, but by the time daylight came, she was gone without a trace.

Cindy’s case is especially unsettling with the sheer volume of twists, dead ends, and chilling theories. Despite national attention, FBI involvement, and family support, Cindy's case remains unsolved, with her loved ones left only with questions and heartbreak.

So if you’re ready for a story full of eerie mysteries, alleged psychic insights, and one of the most perplexing Halloween disappearances ever, this episode is for you.

Episode 82: The Candyman Oct 23, 2024

Show notes

I kick off this episode as per usual with about 10 minutes of blabbering on about life, love, and the pursuit of happiness (not really🤣 - I actually just talk about my morning).

After we catch up, we're diving headfirst into the mysterious origins of Halloween. Ever wondered how an ancient festival celebrating the dead turned into a night of costumes and candy? We'll peel back the layers of history and uncover the fascinating transformation of this spooky holiday.

But hold on, the real treat (or trick) of today's episode is a true crime story that's as chilling as they come. We're exploring the haunting case of Timothy O'Bryan from 1974—a tale that forever changed Halloween night. It's a story filled with unexpected twists that will make you think twice about those sugary sweets.

Come along for the life updates, stick around for the spooky, and—of course—enjoy the chaos. 🎃🌵

BONUS EPISODE: SPOOKY MINI-CRIME STORY - Ghosts of Greenwich Oct 21, 2024

Show notes

In this episode, I kick things off with a rundown of my weekend adventures. From nearly losing my voice at Terror in the Corn 👻🌽(apparently, I'm not as brave as I thought) to an unexpected shopping trip to a sad and unexpectedly tragic end to the weekend😕.

Then we shift gears to the main event: the perplexing murder of Martha Moxley. A 15-year-old girl from an affluent Connecticut neighborhood, Martha's life was cut short under mysterious and chilling circumstances. Was it a case of jealousy, a dark family secret, or something even more sinister? I'll walk you through the eerie details, suspicious characters, and the questions that still linger nearly five decades later.

🧡Love you all!! Enjoy!!

Episode 81: When the Party Ends, the Horror Begins Oct 16, 2024

Show notes

Tonight's episode kicks off with a cosmic touch, thanks to a quick heads-up from our very own Human GPS. I'll be sharing a little snippet about the comet lighting up the sky tonight—just a short detour before we dive into this week's story. Now, I know Michigan isn't exactly the Southwest, but Halloween is closing in, and I couldn't resist bringing you a truly bone-chilling case from the Midwest that fits the spooky season just perfectly.

We’re heading to a Halloween party in 2014 where Chelsea Bruck, a fun-loving 22-year-old, donned a homemade Poison Ivy costume for a night of dancing, drinking, and celebrating with friends. But as the festivities drew to a close, Chelsea disappeared into the night, never to be seen again…

In this episode, I'll walk you through the haunting details of Chelsea’s final moments, the devastating impact on her family and the local community, and the investigation that ultimately uncovered the identity of her killer. This is a story that reminds us: sometimes, the real horror begins when the party ends.

So, grab your cocktail and settle in. It’s time for another night of crime, Halloween haunts, and just a touch of the macabre here on Death X Southwest.

HAPPY OCTOBER🎃

BONUS EPISODE: The Villisca Axe Murders Oct 15, 2024

Show notes

It’s time for another classic Margot ramble-fest! 🎃 First up, I share about the weekend I spent with my BFF and her adorable son. We did all the fall things—pumpkin patches, halloween decor, and let’s just say the child has more stamina than I’ve ever had in my life. Also, I dragged Mark along for some pumpkin picking which HE LOVED.

Then, because I’m me, I dive into my list of spooky movie picks—because what would October be without them? (Hint: Boring.) Naturally, I also blab about the usual life stuff and whatever else popped into my brain at the time. You know how it goes.

Finally, I close things out with a mini-crime story about one of the creepiest, unsolved mysteries ever—the Villisca Axe Murders. If you’re not familiar, prepare to be freaked out by what went down in that little house in Iowa back in 1912. I promise, you’ll be locking your doors tonight.

So grab a coffee (or cocktail🍸) and enjoy my latest mix of true crime and random life nonsense!

Episode 80: The Austin Yogurt Shop Murders, Part 4 Oct 09, 2024

Show notes

In 1991, Austin—a city growing fast but still holding onto its small-town charm—was rocked by a crime so brutal it’s haunted the community for decades. Four teenage girls, a cozy yogurt shop, and a night that ended in unimaginable tragedy. In this final part of the Austin Yogurt Shop Murders series, I’ll dig into what really happened behind those doors and who could be responsible for such an unspeakable act.

But, heads up, I do a lot of blabbing in the intro! I read a few listener emails and share some random thoughts for the first 24 minutes or so, so if you want to skip straight to the case, you’ve been warned. If you’ve been with me for the first three parts of this story, you know it’s one that will leave you questioning everything… so let’s wrap this up.

If you have information about the yogurt shop murders, call 512-472-TIPS.

SPOOKY MINI-CRIME STORY: Shocktoberfest Oct 08, 2024

Show notes

In this bonus episode of Death X Southwest, I somehow end up accidentally deep-diving into Shocktoberfest in Pennsylvania—because who doesn’t mix up spooky theme parks with actual crime research? After that embarrassing detour, I redeem myself with a creepy mini true crime tale about Brian Massey and the chilling 1984 murder of his family. And just when you think it's all about murder, I veer off into a completely unrelated (but equally fascinating) ramble about my weekend adventures involving a homeless man, his adorable dog, and, of course, my latest favorite healthy dinner. Throw in a few more random thoughts, because why not? It’s chaotic, it’s random, it’s me—at my finest.

SPOOKY MINI-CRIME STORY: McKamey Manor Oct 03, 2024

Show notes

In this episode, I'm all over the place—just the way you like it😂. For the first 40 minutes, I catch you up on life lately: a weekend that revolved entirely around Henry (who we are trying to make sure is living his best life), my first doctor's visit in a decade (why do I always put these things off?), an amazing email from a listener named Josephine (it made my week!), and plenty of the usual, slightly chaotic rambling.

After that, we dive into a creepy, Halloween-worthy mini-story about McKamey Manor—often called the scariest haunted house in America. Is it just extreme entertainment, or something far darker? Buckle up for some chills and maybe a bit of disbelief as we explore the unsettling details behind this infamous "experience."
