DawgmanRadio - Reactions To Signing Day Dec 21, 2023
    Show notes

Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer started the completion of his third recruiting class. There's still some holdouts that they are waiting on, but currently, the Huskies have 15 signees from high school and four portal signees.

The guys from Dawgman.com -- Scott Eklund and Kim Grinolds -- were on hand for DeBoer's Signing Day press conference and they had a chance to sit down and go through, position by position, and look at each of the prospects that signed with the Huskies and what they had in common.

They discussed how DeBoer related how the coaching staff looked for different characteristics with each position group and how they went about evaluating the prospects that they targeted and why each prospect was a good fit for the program.

Then they moved on to the saga currently underway with EDGE Dominic Kirks who has not signed yet. Ohio State, his home state school, came in with a late offer and now the Huskies are in the fight for their recruiting lives over the talented and versatile prospect from the Buckeye State.

They also talked about the possible addition of Calabasas (Ca.) ATH Aaron Butler and where things are trending with him. His process has been a bit Helter Skelter as he has committed to and decommitted from two schools (USC and Colorado) and he's now down to Arizona, Washington and Texas according to 247's Greg Biggins who posted an update earlier this afternoon.

Then they looked at the acquisitions of QB Will Rogers, DL Sebastian Valdez, OT Drew Azzopardi and LB Ethan Barr and how each will impact their different position groups and gave a quick roundup of what to expect moving forward.

DawgmanRadio: We're Answering Your Questions! Dec 08, 2023
    Show notes

The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - break down your questions as the mid-year signing period is less than two weeks away, the transfer portal has opened up, and coaches are in line for contract extensions in this special edition of Ask Dawgman, podcast-style.

We answered the first five questions, then took a little break to pay some bills, and then finished the pod with the second batch of five questions. The submitted questions are listed below, in order.

    From: stinkycabbage

When will the coaching staff’s extensions be announced? Hopefully before Christmas or I’ll be getting really nervous. Pay the man!

    From: dawgvader91

How many Husky fans do you think will make it to the Sugar Bowl ?

    From: Trouttramp

How many impact players from this year’s team will be back next year?

    From: WgritW

Will there be a plan to play Zach Durfee in the playoff game?

    From: kevdawg8668

2016 was our last team to make the CFP. IMHO that team may have had more talent (especially) on Defense, but feel this team is set better for a playoff run in '23. Do you guys expect to see this level of parity across the CFB landscape w/ NIL that would make it hard for blue bloods like BAMA, OSU, Georgia to ever field teams like we saw in the earlier Playoff era similar to the '16 w/ that Bama squad?

After a quick break, we answer the following five question to finish off this mailbag.

    From: betazk41

How are the backup/young OL developing, specifically the OTs, and what is the plan for next year with and without Rosengarten?

    From: laragon6031

How do you see traditional recruiting, the portal, and NIL, changing the way UW puts its roster together?

    From: EddieAdamsfromTorrance

Which young player or players do you see taking a big step next year and potentially earning a key role?

    From: thepenixmightier

Assuming you guys love the Huskies so much that you made a career of it, how much has your inner kid enjoyed this season or do you regret being so ingrained in the day to day that you feel like you've missed on the moments?

    From: CaliDawg45

Out of the portal QBs, who's your pick?

Emergency Pod: Washington Picked to Play in the Sugar Bowl Dec 03, 2023
    Show notes

The guys from Dawgman.com - Chris Fetters and Scott Eklund - were at Washington this morning to talk to UW Head Coach Kalen DeBoer after the official announcement of the Huskies' College Football Playoff destination. They are going to be playing the Texas Longhorns on January 1 at 5:45 pm PT in New Orleans.

The guys talked about their immediate reactions to the news, as well as DeBoer's take on playing the Longhorns in the post-season for two years in a row, as well as having to play in the Sugar Bowl compared to the opportunity they didn't get in the Rose Bowl, the site hosting the other semifinal between Michigan and Alabama.

They tried not to get too caught up in the politics behind moving Alabama into the fourth spot ahead of an unbeaten conference champion in Florida State, but DeBoer was definitely asked about it and the guys talk about his reaction here.

After a quick break, the guys delve into some of the other topics DeBoer discussed, including the post-season awards chase for both Rome Odunze with the Biletnikoff and Michael Penix Jr. with the Heisman Trophy.

They also talked about the schedule moving forward for the Huskies as the players wind down the fall quarter with finals and the Christmas holiday. DeBoer said he was happy with how the schedule worked out with last year's Alamo Bowl, so expect something similar this time around.

The guys wrapped up the pod with some final thoughts and also a take on this question: did the College Football Playoff committee do Washington a favor by not pairing them up with Alabama?

DawgmanRadio: Washington Continues to Make History with Pac-12 Championship Victory! Dec 02, 2023
    Show notes

It was the last one ever played, and it was everything every UW fan could have asked for. The Washington Huskies made more history Friday night with their 34-31 win over Oregon to seal their third conference championship in the Pac-12 era, the final one ever to be played.

On top of it, they picked up their 13th-straight win of the season and 20th in a row. In just his second season as head coach, Kalen DeBoer became the first head coach in school history to lead his team to a 13-0 season.

The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas and Chris Fetters and Scott Eklund in Seattle - got together post-game through the magic of technology and hashed out the main storylines of the game and what it all means.

To start with, Kim set the scene, including the pregame thoughts about the turf and whether or not it might cause some issues during the game. Fortunately it really didn't become something that either team or its fans will talk about, but what UW fans will bring up for a long time to come is the redemption arc for both Michael Penix Jr. and Jalen McMillan.

Penix, who out-dueled Oregon's Bo Nix in the desert, showed why he should be considered seriously for the Heisman Trophy, coming up with some key passes and runs to keep the Huskies on schedule even when the Ducks scored 21-straight unanswered in the middle of the game and took the lead in the third quarter.

The senior quarterback for the Huskies was named the Pac-12 Championship Player of the Game after going 27-39 for 319 yards and one touchdown. And Jalen McMillan, who showed signs of life in the Apple Cup absolutely exploded on the scene Friday night, leading UW in catches with 9 catches for 131 yards.

And if they could have given two POG awards, running back Dillon Johnson certainly earned his stripes, going for 152 yards and two scores on 28 carries, and doing it all while less than 100 percent.

Kim went through the statistical breakdown and the guys also talked about UW's physicality all night long and how they stayed true to their identity even when adversity hit.

After a quick break the guys get back at it and Kim relays some of the things Penix said post-game, including his thoughts on the fourth down touchdown pass to tight end Quentin Moore in the fourth quarter to give Washington a 10-point lead.

They also talked about some of the repercussions of the win. Will Washington definitely go to the Rose Bowl now as part of the College Football Playoff? Kim relayed his own thoughts of being on the field post-game, including who he talked to and just the general sense of what it was like to be there.

DawgmanRadio: Our Pac-12 Championship Pregame Show! Dec 01, 2023
    Show notes

The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds in Las Vegas and Chris Fetters and Scott Eklund back in Seattle - got together early Friday morning to put together a nearly hour-long Pac-12 Championship pregame show that outlines what they expect to see in this highly anticipated matchup of two top-5 teams.

To start, the guys go back and talk a little bit about what the Huskies and Ducks have done since UW's 36-33 win over Oregon back in mid-October. The Ducks have been flying, while the Dawgs have also found ways to win but in much different ways.

They look at the matchup of Oregon's offense, led by Bo Nix against Washington's defense. How much will a player like Tuli Letuligasenoa help to neutralize Oregon's vaunted run offense? And with Washington's rotating cast at safety, how much will a player like Kamren Fabiculanan play? And with the emergence of Tez Johnson, would UW put Jabbar Muhammad on him like Muhammad played slot corner against USC? And how big will the play of Carson Bruener be?

After a quick break the line is flipped and the guys talk about Washington's offense against Oregon's defense. What is going on with Michael Penix Jr.? And is it just him or are other factors at play when looking at how the Huskies' offensive numbers have declined the second half of 2023? And where will be the places Washington can attack the Ducks?

There's also some coaching carousel talk, especially when it comes to the UW assistants like Ryan Grubb, JaMarcus Shephard, Nick Sheridan, Julius Brown, and Inoke Breckterfield. And is an extension close between Washington and Kalen DeBoer?

Scott also provides a recruiting/portal update and talks about the news that Courtney Morgan has been promoted to General Manager? Who will take over as Director of Player Personnel?

And don't forget, the Washington Men's Basketball team is playing Colorado State in Las Vegas tomorrow night at 4 pm PT on the CBS Sports Network.
