DawgmanRadio: An Exclusive Look Back With Rick Neuheisel Jul 25, 2025
    Show notes

Dawgman.com's Kim Grinolds was at Big Ten Media Days this week and he was able to catch up with current CBS media personality and former Washington Head Coach Rick Neuheisel for a look back at his time on Montlake, including the teams and players that he coached.

They talked about the 2000 Rose Bowl season that was filled with what Neuheisel called 'really high highs' and then 'knocked back down to sea level' with Curtis Williams' injury.

He also shared stories and anecdotes with Kim on the following UW players, coaches and department personnel: Roc Alexander, Cody Pickett, Jeremiah Pharms, Wil Hooks, Willie Hurst, Hakim and Mikal Akbar, Marques Tuiasosopo, Jerramy Stevens, John Anderson, Todd Elstrom, Paul Arnold, Anthony Vontoure, Derrell Daniels, Jimmy Newell, Chris Massey, Sam Blanche, Nick Olszewski, Ben Mahdavi, Spencer Marona, Pat Conniff, Anthony Kelley, Steve Axman, Claudine Low, and Tank (Terry) Johnson, who was involved in finding a kidney donor for Nate Robinson. And Rick definitely had a story or two about Nate!

DawgmanRadio: With the June official visits now done, where does UW sit with recruiting? Jun 27, 2025
    Show notes

The guys from Dawgman.com - Chris Fetters and Scott Eklund - got together to put a bow on Washington's June recruiting efforts and offer some best guesses on if the Huskies are going to get any commitments in the next few weeks heading into fall camp.

To start, they recapped the last recruiting visit weekend where UW hosted 7 recruits - Kodi Greene, Davon Benjamin, Ansu Sanoe, Pulelei'ite Primus, Ksani Jiles, Elijah Durr, and Rahsjon Duncan. Only three - Benjamin, Primus, and Duncan - are currently uncommitted while the rest are committed to UW.

How did the weekend go in terms of gaining any new commitments?

Chris used 247Sports' Recruiting Class Calculator to project out a potential scenario given the current uncommitted recruits that have taken official visits to UW. That list, as it currently stands, would put the Huskies at 23 verbal commitments. Is that scenario a reasonable one? And could the Huskies get some players that took official visits to Montlake but committed to other schools to flip their commitments toward UW?

The guys also talked about how well the coaches have done so far in addressing position needs.

To finish out the 55-minute recruiting podcast, Scott offers his best guess as to whether or not UW will earn any commitments during the month of July, typically the last month to make decisions for prospects who want to make their decisions public before their senior seasons start. And will they all be currently uncommitted players? Or will the coaches be able to entice a prospect or two to change their commitments in favor of the Huskies?

DawgmanRadio: A chat with Dawgs Unleashed's Joe Knight Jun 20, 2025
    Show notes

Dawgman.com's Kim Grinolds took some time this week to catch up with Joe Knight, Executive Director of Dawgs Unleashed, the internal arm of the Washington Athletic Department that serves as an influencer marketing and NIL agency to increase revenue opportunities and business partnerships within the shifting landscape of collegiate athletics.

In short? They act as the matchmaker between Washington's student-athletes and opportunities to help maximize their NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) rights.

With the House settlement being signed off and agreed to as of June 6th, it means schools will now be able to pay their student-athletes directly. So now the UW student-athletes have two ways to make money; through the school's revenue sharing (which will be done for players playing football, basketball, softball and volleyball per UW AD Pat Chun) and through their NIL opportunities.

And that's where Knight and his staff step in to help navigate the UW student-athletes through this new landscape.

To start the podcast, Kim asked Joe to broadly define what Dawgs Unleashed will be doing, how they will work with UW's main donor collective - Montlake Futures - and what UW fans who are currently donating to Montlake Futures should expect moving forward as the collective's role is reduced and the role of creating NIL opportunities moves in-house. Joe also talks about what fans and donors can do if they want to get UW student-athletes involved with personal or corporate NIL opportunities.

And how is UW uniquely positioned to take advantage of their potential NIL marketplace within Seattle? Joe talks about that, as well as how important the new media marketing right deal struck with Learfield will help UW student-athletes in terms of generating additional NIL opportunities, and also clears up any confusion about what UW can do for true freshmen enrolling now and how the revenue sharing will look going forward. Is it true that a quarterback could make more than a kicker? It's clear that Jedd Fisch's 'Be A Pro' mantra extends into the realm of revenue share, but what will that mean in terms of dollars and cents for the players involved?

There is a lot to chew on here and Kim offers up some real-world examples that Joe expands on and offers clarity on. There's still so much that is brand-new in this post-House world regarding revenue sharing, NIL opportunities, and what will be kosher in terms of contracts that have to now go through the NIL Go clearinghouse. Are there multi-year NIL deals that have already been signed? For example, if they signed a two-year deal last year, does the second year of the deal now have to go through the NIL Go clearinghouse?

As we're already seeing and as should have been expected, legal challenges are already taking place.

DawgmanRadio: Previewing the last big recruiting weekend in June Jun 19, 2025
    Show notes

The guys from Dawgman.com - Chris Fetters and Scott Eklund - were back on the mic this morning to preview this weekend's last big set of official visits for June, as well as talk about Washington's newest commitment - cornerback Jeron Jones - and also talk a little bit about a couple of top UW recruiting targets that are expected to make their college decisions very soon - O'Dea DL David Schwerzel and EDGE Tristian Givens.

To start, the guys talk about the commitment of Jones, a four-star corner from Mission Viejo, Calif. and what his commitment means for the defensive back room, as well as how his pledge might impact others - namely Davon Benjamin from Oaks Christian, who is officially visiting Montlake this weekend.

That segues perfectly into talking about the players that are expected to officially visit UW starting Friday. The full list can be found HERE. There's already been one name taken off and one added, so could there be more changes before Friday?

After a quick break, Scott talks about the 7-on and 5-on camps he attended Wednesday at Husky Stadium, tournaments that allowed him to see a couple of 2026 UW commits up close and personal; Puyallup OL Ah Deong Yang and Kennedy Catholic DL Derek Colman-Brusa. He also talked about a number of the 2027, 2028, and 2029 players that were also participating, including some that already have offers from the Huskies.

Chris and Scott then talk about the early standout performance of 2026 QB commit Derek Zammit at the prestigious Elite 11 competition in Los Angeles, one that saw Zammit fifth overall after day one.

And don't forget, we are currently running a deal where you can get 50 percent off a yearly subscription, so if you want to get set up ahead of what should be a very entertaining 2025 football season, click HERE to check out the promotion. And it's upgradeable for monthly members too!

DawgmanRadio: Getting ready for a busy June finish in recruiting Jun 13, 2025
    Show notes

The guys from Dawgman.com - Chris Fetters and Scott Eklund - are back to talk about the second half of June and how the Washington Huskies are poised to attack the rest of the planned official visits.

To start, Scott opines on whether or not the Huskies can actually put together their best recruiting class ever. Currently UW stands at 15th overall in the 247Sports' team recruiting rankings. What will it take for them to finish in record-setting fashion?

Then the guys talk about the three recent verbal commitments - TE Sam Vyhlidal, RB/WR Dre Pollard, and WR Mason James. The first two are great examples of how recruiting can come together very quickly, and James is the archetype example of how a typical recruitment goes for a top prospect from start to finish.

After a quick break the guys move on to the Huskies' next recruiting weekend, which will be next weekend. Because of commencement happening this weekend and a dead period starting on Monday the 23rd, the weekend of the 20th is the last time in June the Huskies will have a chance to bring prospects in on official visits.

Right now, eight players are listed. As Scott details, that number should change before the weekend starts as some currently listed may not come to Montlake and UW could definitely add others to try and finish things off on the right foot.

To finish out the podcast, Scott talks about the currently uncommitted players, as well as players committed to other schools that have visited Washington, that could end up Huskies and deliver on his plan to have UW's best recruiting class ever.

DawgmanRadio: Breaking down all the UW recruiting news from this past weekend Jun 02, 2025
    Show notes

The guys from Dawgman.com - Chris Fetters and Scott Eklund - put a bit of a wrap on what turned out to be a highly successful weekend of official visits to Montlake for the Washington Huskies, and we expect even more news to come out in the coming days.

To start, Scott gave his thoughts on the two players that gave Washington their verbal commitments over the weekend after their official visits - offensive lineman Dominic Harris and defensive back Gavin Day. Both are from Las Vegas and they weren't the only ones to visit from Sin City, as Harris was joined by Clark High teammate Dre Pollard, an athlete that can play either receiver or defensive back at the next level.

And what about the makeup of visitors? Some were from in-state, some were already committed to UW, and some were official visitors already verbally committed to other schools, like Vance Spafford (Georgia), Madden Williams (Texas A&M), and Daniel Odom (Oklahoma).

Going into some specific storylines, Chris asked Scott for his take on the recruitment of O'Dea DL David Schwerzel, as well as UW legacy athlete Derrick Johnson II. And then there were a couple of very highly rated prospects that visited Montlake in ATH Brandon Arrington and EDGE Landon Barnes. In Scott's estimation, how did UW do in getting those two to think about the Huskies as a serious player in their recruitment?

And of the players already committed to other schools, who does Scott think is the one most likely to flip to UW? Scott also offers up his opinion when Chris asks about an under-the-radar visitor that he feels is being slept on in terms of his overall recruitment.

Before finishing up the recruiting podcast, Scott previews the list of prospects expected to officially visit Washington this coming weekend and an update on the number of signees he expects UW to target for the 2026 class.

A reminder: Dawgman.com is currently running a steal of a deal - SIXTY percent off a yearly subscription. And if you are a current monthly user, you can upgrade to a yearly subscription using this offer. The recruiting visits are ramping up and a ton of news is expected in the weeks to come, so now is a fantastic time to either join up or upgrade. You can do it HERE.

DawgmanRadio: Wrapping up Spring with 'Dawgs After Dark' May 03, 2025
    Show notes

The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - were at Husky Stadium Friday night to watch the Washington Huskies go through their 15th and final spring practice, one they call 'Dawgs After Dark'.

It was a full tackle scrimmage that lasted roughly two hours and about 85-90 plays, according to Washington Head Coach Jedd Fisch. He split the teams up, ran the number one and number two quarterbacks out there for the first half, and then the backup quarterbacks did the same for the second half.

In the first half of the recap podcast, the guys broke down what they saw on offense, specifically from true freshman receiver Raiden Vines-Bright. RVB unofficially caught 8 passes for 131 yards and one touchdown, dwarfing the production from the rest of the receiver group combined.

After a quick break, the talk turned to the defensive side and two players were singled out not just for how they played Friday night, but all spring; EDGE Jacob Lane and CB Rahshawn Clark.

Scott gave an update on the prospects that were at the Spring Game (you can see the full list HERE), and also provided a quick note on what the coaches are going to be doing in recruiting now that spring football is over (hint: it involves a lot of frequent flyer miles).

DawgmanRadio: Huskies in the process of cleaning things up before Dawgs After Dark Apr 29, 2025
    Show notes

The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, Scott Eklund, and intern Jakob Spielholz - talk about what they saw on Day 13 of UW Spring Football, and there wasn't much to report on during their two hour workout inside the Dempsey Indoor Facility on Monday afternoon.

It was the shortest practice of the spring to date, and Wednesday's practice will likely be about as long as the team cleans things up and prepares like they would for a game, which is obviously happening Friday night.

The guys did have some observations, and Scott breaks down who he thinks is going to have the most carries, most catches, and most tackles during 'Dawgs After Dark'.

After a quick break the talk turns to recruiting, where Scott offers his thoughts on how things went with this past weekend's official visitors. And that conversation turned into a bit of a stroll down Amnesia Lane, complete with some old recruiting war stories.

DawgmanRadio: Plenty to talk about after another big UW scrimmage Apr 26, 2025
    Show notes

The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, Scott Eklund, and intern Jakob Spielholz - had a lot to talk about after the Washington Huskies went through a very long Saturday scrimmage under a beautiful spring Seattle sky, a scrimmage that was roughly around 120 plays in all different types of scenarios. From goal line to red zone, to coming out of the end zone, to overtime, to 2-minute - the Huskies covered a lot of ground.

Who stood out? Was the offense able to continue to make headroom, or was the defense once again the side of the ball that showed the most dominance? There were some standout performances, and we go through all of the ones that we saw, and on both sides. Because it was a scrimmage and the defense was tackling, there was some things to definitely talk about in terms of the running game.

After a quick break, the talk turned to recruiting and Scott offered up a quick update on all the prospects that he saw. The Huskies are hosting four official visitors this weekend - RB Brian Bonner, OL Sam Utu, OL Aaron Thomas, and WR Denairius Gray. There were also a number of unofficial visitors on hand, and Scott talks about them too.
