DawgmanRadio: Hashing out an historic Apple Cup win Sep 21, 2025
    Show notes

The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds in Pullman and Chris Fetters and Scott Eklund in Seattle - break down all the things they saw during Washington's historic 59-24 win in the Apple Cup Saturday night in Pullman.

To start with, it was the hottest Apple Cup on record, with 81-degrees announced at kickoff. And the 59 points was the most Washington has ever scored in an Apple Cup, surpassing the 56 points they scored in 1991.

It was also the first road win of the Jedd Fisch era on Montlake and the first road win for Washington since their 2023 win in Corvallis over Oregon State.

Among the topics discussed during the 40-minute game recap:

    - Kim's take on the atmosphere compared to other Apple Cups at Martin Stadium, and also how beer sales impacted the crowd (if at all).
    - The adjustments Washington made over the course of the game to eventually push past the pesky Cougars in the fourth quarter
    - The offensive efficiency, starting with Demond Williams and the fact that they didn't have to punt for a second-straight game.
    - The defensive issues against WSU's passing game and especially the struggles that both Leroy Bryant and Deven Bryant had.
    - The momentum gained by the two big fourth-quarter turnovers, starting with Alex McLaughlin's pick-six and Dylan Robinson's punchout the very next play.
    - John Mills' monster pancake block to spring Jonah Coleman for an early touchdown.
    - The continued impressive performance by the offensive line, especially with how they were able to overcome and adjust to all the early games WSU's defensive line threw at them.
    - Final thoughts as the Huskies look ahead to hosting the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes.

DawgmanRadio: Our Apple Cup pregame show! Sep 20, 2025
    Show notes

The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - got up first thing Saturday morning to break down their takes on a number of topics heading into the 117th Apple Cup.

    - Lack of interest/vitriol heading into the game and the future of the rivalry
    - Alcohol sales in Martin Stadium for the first time
    - Our podcast with avowed Husky Hater Jim Moore
    - A very quick Washington State preview
    - Uniform chatter
    - Recollections from a memorable 2002 game
    - Getting players back from the injured list
    - Key statistics going into the game
    - UW's game plan, especially on offense
    - Washington's improved offensive line
    - Final thoughts

There's no question one fanbase is looking at this as a rivalry and the other is looking at it as a shot at redemption, a chance to run up the score, and a means toward winning back a trophy they feel should not have been lost in the first place.

DawgmanRadio: Catching up with Jim Moore during Apple Cup Week Sep 19, 2025
    Show notes

Dawgman.com's Kim Grinolds caught up this week with the biggest Washington State cheerleader, Jim Moore. And this being Apple Cup week, it felt like the perfect time to get back with Jim to get his thoughts on the Cougars and what he expects to see on Saturday, as well as catch up with life after radio and some of his favorite Apple Cup memories. And what about beer sales now at Martin Stadium?

And of course Kim and Jim trade Apple Cup barbs as Jim throws out what he's been hearing on Jedd Fisch and Kim tries to bait Jim into defending his choice of retiring in Oregon, for starters. And to top it off, Kim and Jim place a friendly wager on the game after Jim provides his game prediction.

Perhaps for the first time ever, we are attaching a NSFW label to this episode, so if you're around the kiddos you might want to put this one on with headphones. Or, if you're alone in your car, on your way to work and need a good laugh, crank it up! It's not all that bad at all, but there is a little bit of spicy language scattered throughout the conversation - especially when the chat ends up taking a few humorous detours.

The Mac and Mounger Show: Apple Cup Edition Sep 18, 2025
    Show notes

The 117th Apple Cup looms large as the Washington Huskies head across the state to take on the Washington State Cougars. Jedd Fisch's undefeated Huskies were able to enjoy a bye week while the Cougs suffered their first loss of the season in Denton against the North Texas Mean Green. Even so, Jimmy Rogers won't have a hard time getting the most out of his WSU team who will be desperate to retain the Apple Cup Trophy for another year.

After a week off of their own, Jack and Luke are back at it with the Mac and Mounger show. The two former (current?) interns grade Washington's 70-10 smack down of UC Davis. Afterwards, they share their top stories to watch in this weekend's showdown. A couple highlights include a quarterback competition in Pullman and a budding Heisman campaign for Jonah Coleman.

Next, the duo picks their "Bets to Bark" for the week, each selecting a player on offense and defense to have a standout performance. Hint: Jonah Coleman was selected in this segment.

After that, the Betting B1G start of the show begins. It's important to note that Luke is 6-0 on the season. How long can he remain undefeated? Also, don't ask Jack what his record is.

Finally, Jack and Luke put a numeric value to their confidence level the Huskies will bring the Apple Cup back home to Seattle.

DawgmanRadio: Singin' the BYE Week Blues Sep 12, 2025
    Show notes

The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - gathered Friday morning to gab a bit during this BYE weekend and tie up some loose ends after Washington's 70-10 dismantling of UC Davis.

After some scheduling talk and the normal complaints from west coasters about late night starts and Scott's master plan for how conference realignment will all shake out within a decade (he promises this will definitely all happen), Kim gets Chris's and Scott's take on some things that came out of the UC Davis win since he wasn't able to make it due to car troubles.

Talk moved to the improvement of the offensive line, including the things that have helped this year's line settle in a lot quicker compared to last season, as well as how Jedd Fisch's high school recruiting philosophy has already started to pay off, especially along the OL.

After a quick break Kim asks Scott to talk about John Mills and his recruitment to Washington. Scott happened to be at UW the day Mills was offered a scholarship by the previous staff, and he lays out Mills' recruitment from when he originally committed to Texas, to Washington keeping on him due to his Montlake family ties, to his eventual flip to the Huskies.

Kim asks Chris whether or not Washington's first BYE week comes at a good time. Believe it or not, they had differing opinions on this topic. And then Scott gives a recruiting update that eventually wound its way toward the 2027 recruiting class and whether or not he's surprised the Huskies don't have any public commitments for that class so far.

DawgmanRadio: Bud Withers talks about his Apple Cup Book 'Too Good to be Through' Sep 11, 2025
    Show notes

Dawgman.com's Kim Grinolds spoke this week with former Seattle Times writer Bud Withers on the release of his book called 'Too Good to be Through', chronicling the Apple Cup series between Washington and Washington State. And with the Apple Cup coming up in just over a week, the conversation was a timely one.

To start the podcast, Kim asks the foundational question; why? Why did Bud decide to write about the history of the Apple Cup? Bud talked about the reasoning, as well as the genesis for the idea. In fact the book goes back to when the rivalry wasn't even known as the Apple Cup.

And piecing together basic questions like, who scored the first-ever touchdown for Washington in the rivalry, wasn't easy at all. Bud goes in-depth into the research behind the book, including long days pouring over ancient microfiche in the Suzzallo Library.

Bud also talks about how the rivalry naturally split the state up into different camps, but how it also became pretty heated almost right from when they started playing each other.

Kim also asked about some of Bud's favorite characters on both teams that he uncovered and/or spoke to during the writing of the book.

And of course the two talk about their favorite games in the series, games won by both teams.

DawgmanRadio: Breaking down a dominant win for Washington Sep 07, 2025
    Show notes

The Washington Huskies decimated UC Davis 70-10, and the guys from Dawgman.com - Chris Fetters and Scott Eklund - broke down all the positives they saw. And there were a lot of them.

To start, the Huskies got off to a hot start, scoring the five times they had the ball in the first half, amassing a 42-10 halftime edge.

They were also able to get a pick from Tacario Davis and should have had another one from their other 6-4 corner, Ephesians Prysock. But there were still some sloppy penalties and execution issues that kept the Huskies from shutting down the Aggies completely.

Chris and Scott talked about their favorite players of the game, starting with Jonah Coleman and his four first-half touchdowns (five overall!), as well as how rock-solid Demond Williams was with his decision-making all night long. Then they turned to the defense to talk about their difference-makers.

They also went through all the true freshmen that have played so far this season. There's 10 in all, including four that made their UW debuts tonight; Chris Lawson, Champ Taulealea, Ramonz Adams, and D'Aryhian Clemons.

And they also gave their final thoughts on the game and especially how it plays into how the Huskies will work during their BYE week leading into their Apple Cup game in Pullman in two weeks' time.

DawgmanRadio: Our UC Davis Pregame Show! Sep 06, 2025
    Show notes

The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - broke down their Colorado State thoughts after further review and also offered up their insights into the main things to watch tonight as the Washington Huskies square off with top-5 FCS foe, the UC Davis Aggies.

They go through a thorough recap of what they saw on tape in Washington's 38-21 win over the Rams, starting with quarterback Demond Williams, then the OL, TE, WR, and finally the running backs.

After a quick break they turn the tables and talk about the defense and what they hope to see in terms of area of improvement from game one to game two. And Kim asks the guys; who do they expect to be Washington's leading rusher, receiver, and tackler?

Scott offers up a quick recruiting update in terms of players expected to be at Husky Stadium tonight (hint: it's mostly going to be 2027 and 2028 prospects), and they also talk about the recent hoops offer to top TE prospect Tytan McNeal from Eastside Catholic. Now having been offered by the Huskies for both football and basketball, which sport is likely going to be his best at the next level.

The guys finish up the pregame podcast with their final thoughts, including the fact that the Aggies will be playing in front of a Husky Stadium crowd that will roughly be 15 times the size the one they just saw in their road win at Utah Tech.

The Mac and Mounger Show: UC Davis Sep 05, 2025
    Show notes

The Washington Huskies turn their attention to UC Davis after a 17-point victory over the Colorado State Rams. In this edition of The Mac and Mounger Show, Jack McCauley and Luke Mounger kick things off assigning a report card grade for Washington's week one performance.

Afterwards, each highlights two storylines they are tracking heading into Saturday's tilt with the Aggies, an FCS squad that ranks in the top five nationally. Both former interns are intrigued to see how Washington's defensive front plays after struggling to contain the run in the first half and failing to bring the quarterback down in the backfield until the second half in last week's game.

They will then get into their Bet to Bark segment, predicting a player on each side of the ball to stand out in Saturday's game. Three of the four players selected are freshman on this young and talented squad.

Next, Jack and Luke dive into the Betting B1G Segment, where the latter has developed an early lead in their season long competition. Will the older of the two podcasters continue his reign of dominance in game handicapping, or will Jack strike back this week? You'll have to tune in to find out.

Lastly, each will assign a numerical value to their confidence level that Washington will improve to 2-0 on this young 2026 campaign.

DawgmanRadio: Tons to pick apart when talking about Washington's 38-21 win over Colorado State Aug 31, 2025
    Show notes

The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - stayed up way past their bedtimes to make sure they got their thoughts recorded after Washington's 38-21 win over the Colorado State Rams in the Huskies' season-opener Saturday night at Husky Stadium.

The win, the first ever for quarterback Demond Williams Jr. as a starter, was also Washington's 21st-straight home win, a record they hope to build on next weekend against UC Davis.

To start the show, the guys naturally gravitated toward the offensive side of the ball. It was there where Washington truly shined, going for 509 total yards, including 283 yards on the ground. That would have been the most yards on the ground last season too.

Jonah Coleman almost broke his career mark as he ran 24 times for 177 yards and two scores. Williams added 68 yards on his own.

The guys talked about the ability of the Huskies to be able to run, starting with that revamped offensive line, one that included a start from true freshman left guard John Mills.

They also talked about Williams' winning performance. The sophomore signal caller was 18-24 for 226 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions.

After a quick break the talk turned the defense, a group that struggled out of the gate to contain CSU QB Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi and RB Jalen Dupree. But by the second half the Huskies' new look scheme and first-year defensive coordinator Ryan Walters had things dialed in, allowing only 105 total second-half yards, including minus-6 yards on the ground.

There were a few standouts, including the play of the game by Makell Esteen, the stellar overall play of NAU transfer safety Alex McLaughlin, and Chris and Scott's defensive player of the game, Jacob Lane. The junior EDGE finished with five tackles, including two tackles for loss, and was the one guy in the first half that really seemed to taste some success while others along the front struggled a bit.
