Talking Dateline: Unmasking the Monster Oct 07, 2026

Andrea Canning sits down with Blayne Alexander to talk about her episode “ Unmasking the Monster." In 1989, Dana Beatty, a successful young businesswoman, was sexually assaulted in her Cincinnati home by an unknown masked man. Even with several leads, investigators could not find the man responsible for the violent crime. Decades later, Dana’s daughter, Andra Beatty, reignited the investigation in the hope of getting justice for her mother. With advances in DNA technology, investigators had evidence from the scene retested and, through forensic genetic genealogy, learned that Dana’s attacker was someone she knew. Blayne and Andrea discuss the impact violent crimes have on families and dive into laws surrounding sexual assault and statutes of limitations. Blayne also shares an extra clip from her interviews with Dana and Andra about generational trauma and how it affected Andra growing up. Plus, Blayne and producer Brenda Breslauer answer your questions from social media.

His 24-year-old former lover took the stand against him before the jury delivered its verdict. In Delphi, Indiana, Richard Allen was convicted of the 2017 murders of teens Abigail Williams and Liberty German. His defense is now asking for a new trial. Blayne Alexander sits down with Dateline senior producer Allison Orr and producer Kim Krawitz to discuss their latest episode, “The Man Who Loved Christmas.” As police investigated a burglary at the Indiana home of Marsha Allen, they were surprised to uncover a much bigger crime: murder. One of the burglars told investigators that Marsha’s husband, Harold, who had supposedly died of natural causes nine months earlier, had actually been poisoned by his wife and stepdaughter using a root beer float laced with ethylene glycol. Blayne, Allison, and Kim discuss the devastating impact on Harold’s tight-knit family. They also share a podcast-exclusive clip from the body cam footage of burglar Steven White’s conversation with police and talk about his unique gift of gab. Later, Blayne is joined by Dateline assistant producer Jess Koernig to answer questions from social media.
