    Show notes

This is the thirteenth episode in Eric Ludy’s winter Daily Thunder series that dives into the unstable season of American history known as the Antebellum period (1815-1861). This particular message unpacks the unique challenge a leader faces in having personal convictions, but leading people with opposing viewpoints. The great showman of the late 1850s, Charles Blondin, walked a tightrope across Niagara Falls. And in a sense, every great leader must learn to stay balanced and in the center in order to pull off a similar feat over their own waterfall challenges.

778: The Power of the Backwoods Preacher // Spiritual Lessons from Abe Lincoln's America 12 (Eric Ludy) Feb 25, 2022
    Show notes

This is the twelfth episode in Eric Ludy’s winter Daily Thunder series that dives into the unstable season of American history known as the Antebellum period (1815-1861). This particular message investigates the unusual and even hypnotic power that creative, entertaining, and extreme forms of communication had upon the culture during this period. Whereas, the powers of darkness undoubtedly utilized this cultural propensity for their gain, it is interesting to note how God used this same unique magnetic pull to accomplish His ends in America.

777: Whatever You Do! (Colossians 3:12-17) // Colossians: All of Christ in All Things 12 (Nathan Johnson) Feb 24, 2022
    Show notes

As Christians, our lives must reflect the life and character of our King. Paul says, “whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus.” In an age where Christians live for themselves, we must be conformed to the image of Christ and allow His light and life to shine forth from our lives. In this expositional study of Colossians 3:12-17, we explore what it means to put on the Lord Jesus Christ and for His life to practically be demonstrated and seen in “whatever you do.”

775: Slay the Selfish (Colossians 3:1-11) // Colossians: All of Christ in All Things 11 (Nathan Johnson) Feb 22, 2022
    Show notes

Unless our faith and doctrine move beyond head knowledge into practical living, what good is Christianity? Paul is adamant that if we are to make Jesus first (preeminent) in every area of our lives, it must become practical. In this expositional study of Colossians 3:1-11, Nathan Johnson begins to talk about practically demonstrating the life of Christ as we slay the selfish and remove everything in our lives that doesn’t look like Him.

774: A Twist on Trench Warfare // Spiritual Lessons from Abe Lincoln's America 11 (Eric Ludy) Feb 21, 2022
    Show notes

This is the eleventh episode in Eric Ludy’s winter Daily Thunder series that dives into the unstable season of American history known as the Antebellum period (1815-1861). This particular message dives into the fierce challenge of overcoming a two-party system and effectively expressing love and care to the other side in the battle. After all, battle is . . . um . . . battle, and expressions of love and kindness really don’t seem to fit very well amidst a melee.

773: The Art of Frontier Survival // Spiritual Lessons from Abe Lincoln's America 10 (Eric Ludy) Feb 18, 2022
    Show notes

This is the tenth episode in Eric Ludy’s winter Daily Thunder series that dives into the unstable season of American history known as the Antebellum period (1815-1861). This particular message explores the unique cultural demands of the American Frontier. If you wanted to survive and be free on the frontier of America, you needed to stand your ground when the bullies tested your mettle. How similar that is to our spiritual lives. When the Bully, known as the Devil, tests our mettle, what does he find?

772: Beware of Four “Spiritual” Distractions (Colossians 2:8-23) // Colossians: All of Christ in All Things 10 (Nathan Johnson) Feb 17, 2022
    Show notes

Distractions abound around us, even seemingly good and spiritual ones. Yet as Paul cautions the Colossians, we are to beware of anything that draws us away from Christ (even if it is spiritual and good in and of itself). Join Nathan Johnson in this expositional study of Colossians 2:8-23 as we examine four false teachings the church at Colossae were embracing, and how we must guard ourselves against the very same distractions and doctrine.

770: The Struggle and the Suffering (Colossians 1:24-2:7) // Colossians: All of Christ in All Things 09 (Nathan Johnson) Feb 15, 2022
    Show notes

Struggles and suffering is simply abundant in the Christian life. We are not promised ease and safety, rather we have the hope of comfort and joy amidst the difficulties and hardships of life. When we as believers live fully for Christ, we will face persecution and trials—which Paul says we should embrace and delight in. But how? In this expositional message from Colossians 1:24-2:7 we examine the struggle and suffering of Paul and how we too can delight in difficulty and triumph in any tribulation.
