How Vocational-Technical Schools Are Helping Students Achieve the American Dream Jun 08, 2022
    Show notes

The Pioneer Institute is out with a new book, "Hands-On Achievement: Massachusetts' National Model Vocational-Technical Schools," which finds that vocational-technical high schools have lower dropout rates and on-par test scores with traditional high schools.

The Boston-based think tank also makes the case that these high-performing schools in Massachusetts should serve as a national model, both to address the student loan crisis and a shortage of skilled labor in America.

Joining us on "The Daily Signal Podcast" are Jamie Gass, Pioneer Institute's director of the Center for School Reform, and David Ferreira, a former vocational-technical school administrator and teacher who edited "Hands-On Achievement."

On today's show, we also cover these stories:

    • Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen tells lawmakers she expects inflation to remain high.
    • The Department of Homeland Security warns Americans that there is a heightened threat environment for political violence
    • Three major TV networks—ABC, CBS, and NBC—plan to air a congressional hearing hosted by the Jan. 6 committee in primetime.

Matt Walsh Reveals How Gender Ideology Mutilates Kids Jun 07, 2022
    Show notes

What is a woman? Seems like a pretty simple question. But in today’s America, the left thinks females aren't the only ones who count as women anymore. Stories abound of biological males not only invading women's private spaces such as bathrooms and locker rooms, but dominating in women's sports.

All of this comes with the support of radical leftists and activists in medicine.

Worse, those medical doctors aren't just focused on treating adults. Transgender ideologues have targeted children.

Matt Walsh, author, podcast host, and filmmaker with The Daily Wire, has released a documentary film titled "What Is a Woman?" that he hopes will expose the worst aspects of gender ideology.

"You feel like you're staring into the pit of hell, honestly. I mean, you're looking at pure evil when you consider what they're doing to these kids, and they know what they're doing," Walsh says. "They have to know what they're doing, because they're the doctors and they know what it entails. They know that this stuff is obviously irreversible and they also know that kids can't actually consent to any of this stuff."

    Walsh adds:

Kids don't know what they're doing. They're not looking five, 10 years into the future. I mean, even before you get to surgery and that's horrific enough, you've got the drugs, the hormone drugs, the so-called puberty blockers, and those drugs among other consequences, they also have the effect of sterilizing kids.

Walsh joins "The Daily Signal Podcast" to discuss his film and what gender activists are doing to kids, and offer solutions on how to escape this post-truth environment.

    We also cover these stories:

    • Tesla CEO Elon Musk accuses Twitter of refusing to provide information on the number of bots and fake accounts populating the platform.
    • The national average price of a gallon of gas hits a new record high of $4.86.
    • Several players for the Tampa Bay Rays, citing religious reasons, refuse to wear "pride" logos on their uniforms during a baseball game against the Chicago White Sox.

Your Credit Scores Politicized: State Treasurer Warns of ESG Jun 06, 2022
    Show notes

Are your financial investments being weaponized to undermine your political beliefs?

Investment firms, banks, and many other companies have embraced environmental, social, and governance, also known as ESG—a politicized rating system that advances the left's agenda.

In Utah, Treasurer Marlo Oaks is fighting S&P Global Ratings, which adopted ESG to make decisions about the credit ratings of state and local governments. He's also warning Americans that it'll soon affect them as well—if it hasn't already.

"Most Americans don't want to be exposed to politics in the workplace and in our choices as consumers, but that's where we're going," Oaks tells The Daily Signal. "They're using our money against us, to drive a political agenda that most of us don't want."

Over and over, Americans are witnessing the “failures of this administration,” Rep. Mark Green, R-Tenn., says.

Douglas Murray Explains How We Can Win the War on the West Jun 01, 2022
    Show notes

A fight is raging for the soul of the West.

Great civilizations basking in the legacy of the Enlightenment and heroic men such as George Washington and Winston Churchill find themselves faced with an internal enemy. Some citizens of America and Europe, furious about perceived failures of the past, have decided the best way forward is to tear it all down.

But to British writer and commentator Douglas Murray, author of the new book "The War on the West: How to Prevail in an Age of Unreason," the "games" of self-loathing have only one outcome: utter destruction.

"If we play those games, then yes, of course, it's over, and others will take our place, as they inevitably would if a civilization turns self-loathing," Murray says.

Thankfully, a solution is at hand.

"The deepest well we need to draw upon is to try to change around the culture of ingratitude," Murray says. "We in the West need to transform our societies from societies of resentment into societies of gratitude, to recognize that what we have is highly unusual, and to have some gratitude for that, to feel grateful to that. And if we feel grateful for that, then to add to that inheritance as well."

Murray joins "The Daily Signal Podcast" to discuss his book and offer specifics on winning the war on the West.

    We also cover these stories:

    • Michael Sussmann, a lawyer for Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign, is found not guilty on charges of lying to the FBI.
    • President Biden says he has a plan to flight inflation.
    • Supreme Court clerks soon may be required to turn over private phone records as well as sign affidavits, sources say, as part of a probe into the leaked opinion in a landmark abortion case.
    • Transgender swimmer Lia Thomas, who has dominated in women's events, speaks with ABC's "Good Morning America."

The Other Side of J6: 'Capitol Punishment' Movie Tells Stories You Won't Hear From Congress May 31, 2022
    Show notes

During the month of June, lawmakers in Washington plan to hold six public hearings on the events that took place on January 6. Two of them are even scheduled during primetime TV in an effort by Democrats to maximize their attempt to frame what happened that day at the U.S. Capitol.

But there’s another side to the story that you won’t hear from the likes of Reps. Bennie Thompson, Adam Schiff, Liz Cheney, or other members of the House select committee. They determined long ago who to blame and what narrative to tell.

Now, thanks to a new documentary called “Capitol Punishment,” Americans are able to hear stories from the people who were there on January 6—in their own words and the ordeals they’ve faced since that day.

Joining "The Daily Signal Podcast" are two people who made the movie—actor Nick Searcy and director Chris Burgard.

The movie is available to watch at givemelibertynow.org and capitolpunishmentthemovie.com.

Ben Carson's Vision for 'Hopeful Future of Race in America' May 27, 2022
    Show notes

What does someone’s skin color have to do with who he or she is? “Not a whole lot,” Dr. Ben Carson says.

Carson, a renowned brain surgeon, experienced racism as a child and even early on in his celebrated medical career.

But Carson says he never has considered the color of someone’s skin to be a defining factor of who they are.

“As a brain surgeon, obviously, when I open somebody's head, I'm operating on a thing that makes them who they are,” Carson says. “It's not their hair or their skin that makes them who they are. It's their brain that makes them who they are. ... So obviously, I'm not going to sit around and blame somebody for something that their forefathers did to my forefather.”

Carson, the secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development during the Trump administration, is the author of the new book “Created Equal: The Painful Past, Confusing Present, and Hopeful Future of Race in America.”

Carson joins this episode of “The Daily Signal Podcast” to share a bit of his own story, as well as how America can embrace a future full of hope.

Also on today’s show, we cover these stories:

    • Police answer questions about their response time in the Uvalde, Texas, school shooting.
    • Senate Democrats call for a vote on gun control legislation in the wake of the shooting in Texas.

NBA Star Jonathan Isaac Shares How Christ Inspired Him to Stand Tall Amid BLM Protests May 26, 2022
    Show notes

During the often violent Black Lives Matter protests in 2020, many athletes kneeled during the national anthem in a show of solidarity with the movement. But one man, Orlando Magic player Jonathan Isaac, stood instead.

Isaac is the author of a new book titled “Why I Stand” that details what led him to make that decision. He says his deep and personal relationship with Jesus Christ inspired him to stand.

“I tried my best to see it from Christ’s perspective,” Isaac explains. “And so, as I looked out and saw what was happening, I didn’t want to join into a fight. I wanted to have my own mind, my own mindset, and stand and say that ultimately the love of Christ has been the difference in my life. And I want to portray that to the world.”

Isaac joins “The Daily Signal Podcast” to chat about his book and how his relationship with God guides his life.

    We also cover these stories:

    • Texas Gov. Greg Abbot, a Republican, delivers remarks in the aftermath of the deadly shooting Tuesday at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas.
    • Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., says the Senate has no plans for new gun control legislation.
    • Food and Drug Administration chief Robert M. Califf, a medical doctor, says that aftereffects of COVID-19 and mailing issues affected the FDA’s response to the baby formula shortage.
    • Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, accuses Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign of fabricating evidence to tie Donald Trump to Russia.
