    JAMES 3 – TONGUE Aug 24, 2020
    Show notes

    Hi, this is Ricky and our Daily Devotional today is found in James 3. Feel free to read along in the show notes below.
    Also, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this scripture so comment on this episode at http://dailydevotionalpodcast.com/podcast/james-3/ .

    1 Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness. 2 For we all stumble in many ways. And if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle his whole body. 3 If we put bits into the mouths of horses so that they obey us, we guide their whole bodies as well. 4 Look at the ships also: though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. 5 So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things.

    How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire! 6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell. 7 For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind, 8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. 10 From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so. 11 Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and salt water? 12 Can a fig tree, my brothers, bear olives, or a grapevine produce figs? Neither can a salt pond yield fresh water.

    13 Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. 14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. 15 This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. 17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. 18 And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

    JAMES 2 – NEED Aug 23, 2020
    Show notes

    Hi, this is Ricky and our Daily Devotional today is found in James 2. Feel free to read along in the show notes below.

    Also, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this scripture so comment on this episode at http://dailydevotionalpodcast.com/podcast/james-2/ ‎.

    1 My brothers, show no partiality as you hold the faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory. 2 For if a man wearing a gold ring and fine clothing comes into your assembly, and a poor man in shabby clothing also comes in, 3 and if you pay attention to the one who wears the fine clothing and say, “You sit here in a good place,” while you say to the poor man, “You stand over there,” or, “Sit down at my feet,” 4 have you not then made distinctions among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts? 5 Listen, my beloved brothers, has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom, which he has promised to those who love him? 6 But you have dishonored the poor man. Are not the rich the ones who oppress you, and the ones who drag you into court?7 Are they not the ones who blaspheme the honorable name by which you were called?

    8 If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well. 9 But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors. 10 For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it. 11 For he who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” If you do not commit adultery but do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. 12 So speak and so act as those who are to be judged under the law of liberty. 13 For judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

    14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that?17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

    18 But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder! 20 Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless?21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works; 23 and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”—and he was called a friend of God. 24 You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.25 And in the same way was not also Rahab the prostitute justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way? 26 For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.

    JAMES 1 – TRIALS Apr 18, 2020
    Show notes

    Trials will come. We don’t get to decide whether or not we face hard times. We do get to choose how we view those trials. Hi, this is Ricky and our Daily Devotional today is found in James 1. Feel free to read along in the show notes below. Also, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this scripture so comment on this episode at http://dailydevotionalpodcast.com/podcast/james-1/. 1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes in the Dispersion: Greetings. 2 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, 3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.7 For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. 9 Let the lowly brother boast in his exaltation, 10 and the rich in his humiliation, because like a flower of the grass he will pass away. 11 For the sun rises with its scorching heat and withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beauty perishes. So also will the rich man fade away in the midst of his pursuits. 12 Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. 13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. 14 But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. 15 Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death. 16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. 18 Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. 19 Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; 20 for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. 21 Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. 25 But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing. 26 If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless. 27 Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. PSALM 30 – MORNING (AND CLOSING THOUGHTS) Apr 17, 2020
    Show notes

    No matter how long and endless night seems, morning always comes. Listen to the end of this episode for “what’s next” and prayer to wrap-up the first 30 Psalms.

    Hi, this is Ricky and our Daily Devotional today is found in Psalm 30. Feel free to read along in the show notes below.
    Also, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this scripture so comment on this episode at http://dailydevotionalpodcast.com/podcast/psalm-30/.

    1 I will extol you, O Lord, for you have drawn me up
    and have not let my foes rejoice over me.
    2 O Lord my God, I cried to you for help,
    and you have healed me.
    3 O Lord, you have brought up my soul from Sheol;
    you restored me to life from among those who go down to the pit.

    4 Sing praises to the Lord, O you his saints,
    and give thanks to his holy name.
    5 For his anger is but for a moment,
    and his favor is for a lifetime.
    Weeping may tarry for the night,
    but joy comes with the morning.

    6 As for me, I said in my prosperity,
    “I shall never be moved.”
    7 By your favor, O Lord,
    you made my mountain stand strong;
    you hid your face;
    I was dismayed.

    8 To you, O Lord, I cry,
    and to the Lord I plead for mercy:
    9 “What profit is there in my death,
    if I go down to the pit?
    Will the dust praise you?
    Will it tell of your faithfulness?
    10 Hear, O Lord, and be merciful to me!
    O Lord, be my helper!”

    11 You have turned for me my mourning into dancing;
    you have loosed my sackcloth
    and clothed me with gladness,
    12 that my glory may sing your praise and not be silent.
    O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever!

    PSALM 29 – VOICE Apr 16, 2020
    Show notes

    One word from God is more powerful than anything else in this world.

    Hi, this is Ricky and our Daily Devotional today is found in Psalm 29. Feel free to read along in the show notes below.
    Also, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this scripture so comment on this episode at http://dailydevotionalpodcast.com/podcast/psalm-29/ .

    1 Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings,
    ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
    2 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;
    worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness.

    3 The voice of the Lord is over the waters;
    the God of glory thunders,
    the Lord, over many waters.
    4 The voice of the Lord is powerful;
    the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.

    5 The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars;
    the Lord breaks the cedars of Lebanon.
    6 He makes Lebanon to skip like a calf,
    and Sirion like a young wild ox.

    7 The voice of the Lord flashes forth flames of fire.
    8 The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness;
    the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.

    9 The voice of the Lord makes the deer give birth
    and strips the forests bare,
    and in his temple all cry, “Glory!”

    10 The Lord sits enthroned over the flood;
    the Lord sits enthroned as king forever.
    11 May the Lord give strength to his people!
    May the Lord bless his people with peace!

    PSALM 28 – SAVE, BLESS, SHEPHERD, CARRY Apr 15, 2020
    Show notes

    Hi, this is Ricky and our Daily Devotional today is found in Psalm 28. Feel free to read along in the show notes below.
    Also, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this scripture so comment on this episode at http://dailydevotionalpodcast.com/podcast/psalm-28/.

    1 To you, O Lord, I call;
    my rock, be not deaf to me,
    lest, if you be silent to me,
    I become like those who go down to the pit.
    2 Hear the voice of my pleas for mercy,
    when I cry to you for help,
    when I lift up my hands
    toward your most holy sanctuary.

    3 Do not drag me off with the wicked,
    with the workers of evil,
    who speak peace with their neighbors
    while evil is in their hearts.
    4 Give to them according to their work
    and according to the evil of their deeds;
    give to them according to the work of their hands;
    render them their due reward.
    5 Because they do not regard the works of the Lord
    or the work of his hands,
    he will tear them down and build them up no more.

    6 Blessed be the Lord!
    For he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy.
    7 The Lord is my strength and my shield;
    in him my heart trusts, and I am helped;
    my heart exults,
    and with my song I give thanks to him.

    8 The Lord is the strength of his people;
    he is the saving refuge of his anointed.
    9 Oh, save your people and bless your heritage!
    Be their shepherd and carry them forever.

    PSALM 27 – STRENGTH Apr 14, 2020
    Show notes

    Hi, this is Ricky and our Daily Devotional today is found in Psalm 27. Feel free to read along in the show notes below.
    Also, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this scripture so comment on this episode at http://dailydevotionalpodcast.com/podcast/psalm-27/.

    1 The Lord is my light and my salvation;
    whom shall I fear?
    The Lord is the stronghold of my life;
    of whom shall I be afraid?

    2 When evildoers assail me
    to eat up my flesh,
    my adversaries and foes,
    it is they who stumble and fall.

    3 Though an army encamp against me,
    my heart shall not fear;
    though war arise against me,
    yet I will be confident.

    4 One thing have I asked of the Lord,
    that will I seek after:
    that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
    all the days of my life,
    to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord
    and to inquire in his temple.

    5 For he will hide me in his shelter
    in the day of trouble;
    he will conceal me under the cover of his tent;
    he will lift me high upon a rock.

    6 And now my head shall be lifted up
    above my enemies all around me,
    and I will offer in his tent
    sacrifices with shouts of joy;
    I will sing and make melody to the Lord.

    7 Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud;
    be gracious to me and answer me!
    8 You have said, “Seek my face.”
    My heart says to you,
    “Your face, Lord, do I seek.”
    9 Hide not your face from me.
    Turn not your servant away in anger,
    O you who have been my help.
    Cast me not off; forsake me not,
    O God of my salvation!
    10 For my father and my mother have forsaken me,
    but the Lord will take me in.

    11 Teach me your way, O Lord,
    and lead me on a level path
    because of my enemies.
    12 Give me not up to the will of my adversaries;
    for false witnesses have risen against me,
    and they breathe out violence.

    13 I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord
    in the land of the living!
    14 Wait for the Lord;
    be strong, and let your heart take courage;
    wait for the Lord!

    1 Vindicate me, O Lord,
    for I have walked in my integrity,
    and I have trusted in the Lord without wavering.
    2 Prove me, O Lord, and try me;
    test my heart and my mind.
    3 For your steadfast love is before my eyes,
    and I walk in your faithfulness.

    4 I do not sit with men of falsehood,
    nor do I consort with hypocrites.
    5 I hate the assembly of evildoers,
    and I will not sit with the wicked.

    6 I wash my hands in innocence
    and go around your altar, O Lord,
    7 proclaiming thanksgiving aloud,
    and telling all your wondrous deeds.

    8 O Lord, I love the habitation of your house
    and the place where your glory dwells.
    9 Do not sweep my soul away with sinners,
    nor my life with bloodthirsty men,
    10 in whose hands are evil devices,
    and whose right hands are full of bribes.

    11 But as for me, I shall walk in my integrity;
    redeem me, and be gracious to me.
    12 My foot stands on level ground;
    in the great assembly I will bless the Lord.

    PSALM 25 – WAIT Apr 12, 2020
    Show notes

    Life is full of waiting and how we wait on God determines how we enjoy our life.

    Hi, this is Ricky and our Daily Devotional today is found in Psalm 25. Feel free to read along in the show notes below.
    Also, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this scripture so comment on this episode at http://dailydevotionalpodcast.com/podcast/psalm-25/ .

    1 To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
    2 O my God, in you I trust;
    let me not be put to shame;
    let not my enemies exult over me.
    3 Indeed, none who wait for you shall be put to shame;
    they shall be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous.

    4 Make me to know your ways, O Lord;
    teach me your paths.
    5 Lead me in your truth and teach me,
    for you are the God of my salvation;
    for you I wait all the day long.

    6 Remember your mercy, O Lord, and your steadfast love,
    for they have been from of old.
    7 Remember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions;
    according to your steadfast love remember me,
    for the sake of your goodness, O Lord!

    8 Good and upright is the Lord;
    therefore he instructs sinners in the way.
    9 He leads the humble in what is right,
    and teaches the humble his way.
    10 All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness,
    for those who keep his covenant and his testimonies.

    11 For your name’s sake, O Lord,
    pardon my guilt, for it is great.
    12 Who is the man who fears the Lord?
    Him will he instruct in the way that he should choose.
    13 His soul shall abide in well-being,
    and his offspring shall inherit the land.
    14 The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him,
    and he makes known to them his covenant.
    15 My eyes are ever toward the Lord,
    for he will pluck my feet out of the net.

    16 Turn to me and be gracious to me,
    for I am lonely and afflicted.
    17 The troubles of my heart are enlarged;
    bring me out of my distresses.
    18 Consider my affliction and my trouble,
    and forgive all my sins.

    19 Consider how many are my foes,
    and with what violent hatred they hate me.
    20 Oh, guard my soul, and deliver me!
    Let me not be put to shame, for I take refuge in you.
    21 May integrity and uprightness preserve me,
    for I wait for you.

    22 Redeem Israel, O God,
    out of all his troubles.

    1 The earth is the Lord‘s and the fullness thereof,
    the world and those who dwell therein,
    2 for he has founded it upon the seas
    and established it upon the rivers.

    3 Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord?
    And who shall stand in his holy place?
    4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
    who does not lift up his soul to what is false
    and does not swear deceitfully.
    5 He will receive blessing from the Lord
    and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
    6 Such is the generation of those who seek him,
    who seek the face of the God of Jacob. Selah

    7 Lift up your heads, O gates!
    And be lifted up, O ancient doors,
    that the King of glory may come in.
    8 Who is this King of glory?
    The Lord, strong and mighty,
    the Lord, mighty in battle!
    9 Lift up your heads, O gates!
    And lift them up, O ancient doors,
    that the King of glory may come in.
    10 Who is this King of glory?
    The Lord of hosts,
