Today in History: What verse spoke to you most today and why? Did you learn something you need to do in your life? Today in History: Under King Solomon, Israel began a 14-day dedication ceremony for the First Temple (see 1 Kings 8). If Messiah was born on Rosh HaShanah, this was the day of Yeshua's “brit mila,” his circumcision ceremony (possible date, see Luke 2:21). Shabbat Shuvah (Sabbath of Return) falls during the days of awe and repentance, between Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur. The name “Shabbat Shuvah” comes from the Haftarah in Hosea 14, “Return [shuvah], O Israel, to the LORD your God.” Shuvah means “return” or “repent.”

This week's portion is called Ha’azinu (Listen)

Thursday 25 September - 3 Tishrei, Fast of Gedaliah Sep 25, 2025

Show notes

Today in History: In the days of Jeremiah the Prophet, the governor Gedaliah was murdered. His murder was the beginning of the end for the remnant of Jews in Israel at that time (see 2 Kings 25:25). The Fast of Gedaliah is a shorter fast on the Jewish calendar and lasts from sunrise to sunset. It is one of four similar fast days in memory of Israel's desolation (see Zechariah 7:3; 8:19). In the Final Redemption, it will turn into a festival of joy. This week's portion is called Vajelech (He Went)

Show notes

Today in History: God created Adam and Eve on Rosh Hashanah (according to tradition, see Genesis 1:26). The waters of the Great Flood drained and the dove did not return. The daily sacrifice resumed on God's altar, but the Second Temple itself was not yet rebuilt (see Ezra 3:6). Ezra the Scribe read the Torah to the exiles who had returned to Jerusalem (see Nehemiah

8:1). It may be the day Messiah was born in Bethlehem of Judah (possible date, see Luke 2). The "Days of Awe" begin, the ten
