Dad Bod History #14 - What If The Mongols Had Conquered Japan? Jul 10, 2020
    Show notes

In 1274 and 1281, the Mongols launched attempts to invade and conquer Japan. Both attempts failed, due to both the strength and will of the Japanese defense, as well as a timely typhoon that wiped out the Mongol naval forces.

But, what if the Mongols had managed to conquer Japan? What fates would both the Japanese people and culture, as well as that of the Mongol Empire face with yet another major conquest under their belts?

Nick joins us to discuss this What If? in history.

Dad Bod History #10 - What If the Japanese Had Not Attacked Pearl Harbor? Jun 23, 2020
    Show notes

"Yesterday, December 7th, 1941—a date which will live in infamy—the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan."
But what if they hadn't been? What if the Empire of Japan had either not attacked Pearl Harbor, or not attacked the United States at all?
We discuss some consequences of the Japanese decision to attack Pearl Harbor and other American interests in the Pacific, and venture into scenarios of World War II without an American nation galvanized by the events of that infamous day.

Dad Bod History #9.- What If the South Had Succeeded at Seceding? Jun 19, 2020
    Show notes

One of the oft-used premises for alternative history buffs, the potential for a Confederate States of America that survives the Civil War and lasts into the 20th Century opens up a world of historical differences.
We explore political, social, and economic consequences, both immediately after the Civil War, as well as those throughout the early and mid-20th Century, if the South had gained their independence.

Dad Bod History #8 - What If D-Day Had Failed? Jun 16, 2020
    Show notes

When the Americans, British, and Canadian forces secured the beachheads of Normandy on June 6, 1944, it opened up a second front in the war against Nazi Germany and her Axis Powers, ensuring the eventual destruction of the Nazi war machine that had ravaged Europe for five years.
But what if D-Day had failed, and the Allies had not gained a foothold in northern France?
We discuss some possibilities and the consequences of such a massive defeat in June of 1944.
