Is Politics Your New Religion? Jan 20, 2021

Show notes

In a fiercely, politically divisive time many seem to take their political passion and raise it above their religion.

Conservative, Liberal, Trump Supporter, Anti-Trump, White Nationalism and Socialist are just some of the titles that are becoming more important to us than 'Christian'.

Dan Ellsworth & Jeff Bennion discuss the implications of this volatile environment where not only the Left, but the Right now as well has adopted identity politics.

D&C 3:2- One Eternal Round Jan 14, 2021

Show notes

In D&C 3:2 we get a familiar, though not often used phrase. What does 'One Eternal Round' mean? We see it in the scriptures in a handful of places along with another, similar phrase, 'the same today, yesterday and forever'. However, not much has ever been said about it.

By studying the chapters where these phrases appear, we can see that they are used in very specific ways. First, this always has to do with a book of scripture, or records. Also, the topics of 'prepare ye the way' and Christ are prevalent, along with the Gifts of God.

It would appear that the theme of a Royal Procession is connected with these statements as well as the Compass and the Square.

We can see these parallels in the descriptions of the physical gold plates of the Book of Mormon as well as in Facsimile #3 of the Book of Abraham.

Cwic Show- Radical Orthodoxy- Avoiding Fundamentalism & Unbridled Progressivism Dec 14, 2020

Show notes

Through specific ideologies and through the vehicle of social media the church is growing polarized in its approach to its speech, culture and doctrine. This intelligent discussion by the authors of Radical Orthodoxy- A Manifesto, seeks to navigate a path avoiding the dangers of fundamentalism on the right and unbridled progressivism on the left. This is a much needed invitation as political polarization, especially in the US, is seeping into the church, LDS Scholarship and LDS apologetics. Where is the truth found? Is it in the center? Have LDS intellectuals failed us?

Nathaniel Givens, Jeffrey Thayne & J. Max Wilson are the authors.
