Navigating Same-Sex Marriage And Religious Freedom

The Church seems to have set a course conceding that same-sex marriage is here to stay in the United States. However, its support of the Respect of Marriage Act is not support for same-sex marriage. Rather, it is to protect religious freedom.

Senator Romney sides with the position of the Church on the bill believing that the provisions protecting religious freedom are sufficient. Senator Lee and most conservative organizations disagree.

Has the culture war already been lost? Have the changes over the last fifteen years created a mudslide that cannot be stopped? It may be time to think of the battle differently. Is it raining? Is it pouring? Should we be building an ark and inviting, persuading, all to enter before the waters rise?

The Philosophies of Men in the Book of Mormon and The Philosophies of Men Today

One way to look at the Book of Mormon is through the Nephite "Dissenters." This is where the political and theological divide is really exposed by Mormon. Virtually all of the Dissenters go to the Lamanites, who share certain values and doctrines with the Dissenters.

There seem to be three major divides:

1) The Doctrine of Christ

2) Liberty

3) Critical Theory (Oppressor/Victim & Liberation)

We find the Philosophies of Men today within the conflict of these three divides.
