    No Pressure Podcast - Ep 2 Mar 17, 2020
    Show notes

In this episode, I am so honoured to be talking to the first producer of a little show called Fleabag (which a few of you may have heard about) - the wonderful, modest and honest Francesca Moody. She's driven, witty, brilliantly creative, and just a joy to speak with.

When I was researching for the show, it soon became apparent that Francesca has an eye for spotting new writing, and is not afraid of the challenges that comes with. She backed Fleabag early and took it to the Edinburgh Fringe, and cut her teeth working as a producer at Paines Plough.

The latest show she produced, Baby Reindeer, has just announced its West End transfer - in co-production with Sonia Friedman, followed by a New York transfer.

146 - Janie Dee and the Climate Change Festival Feb 28, 2020
    Show notes

Theo Bosanquet sits down with the one and only Olivier Award winner Janie Dee to discuss her plans for appearing on a much bigger stage. She is to star in the London transfer of Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike by Christopher Durang.

Whilst appearing there, Dee is to co-produce the inaugural London Climate Change Festival all happening at the Charing Cross Theatre.

During the day, the venue will play host to workshops for school groups, and there are the post-show talks and cabaret with guest appearances from your favourite theatre and TV folk like Giles Terrera and Rob Brydon among many, many others.

As an added bonus, at the end of the episode, Janie Dee recites one of her favourite speeches from A Midsummer Night's Dream, which she finds just as pertinent today as it was 400 years ago.

    145 - The Dog Walker Feb 13, 2020
    Show notes

Paul Minx - whose plays include The Long Road South which played at the King's Head Theatre with Imogen Stubbs and Michael Brandon and See How Beautiful I Am at the Bush Theatre - has a new play in town.

The Dog Walker makes its London premiere at the Jermyn Street Theatre this week with a fantastic cast of Victoria Yeates, seen on the small screen in Call the Midwife and on the big screen in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and beside her onstage is Andrew Dennis who we say at The National Theatre in One Man, Two Guvnors.

The story is that of Herbert Doakes, a professional dog walker who encounters Keri, a dog owner in an empty-ouzo-bottle-ridden flat, with no sign of a dog. Paul Minx's story of finding connection in the big city is as moving as it is funny, proving that hope springs in the most unlikely situations.

    No Pressure Podcast - Episode 1 Feb 06, 2020
    Show notes

Welcome to the first ever episode of the No Pressure Podcast hosted by Curtain Call's Matt Humphrey.

Matt is kicking off the series with a duo whose work, ideas and initiative I have much admired since they made a splash on the scene a couple of years ago. The first 'Platform Presents' Gala - organised by actress Gala Gordon - featured a star-studded line-up of actors that any red carpet / award ceremony would have been proud to host.

Isabella Macpherson and Gala Gordon are driven, optimistic, passionate and selfless creatives - just the type of creators I love to talk to. They don't like to restrict themselves to one media - if the project fits, they have the ambition to make it happen. They are kicking off 2020 with the 3rd Poetry Gala at the Savoy Theatre directed by Gemma Arterton, featuring an A-list line-up, and raising funds for their Playwright Prize which will support the work of an emerging writer

    144 - Jimmy Grimes, Puppeteer Jan 31, 2020
    Show notes

How many listeners have seen War Horse? Lion King? Avenue Q? The Grinning Man? Any Aardman project ever?

What do they all have in common? Puppetry.

Puppetry has been a staple in theatre as long as there actually has been theatre, but the advent of massive theatre shows have taken puppetry to a new level, especially in the case of the first two of the aforementioned shows.

After coming across some of the art and video on social media that Jimmy Grimes was posting, I had to get in touch with him to see if he'd be up for chatting with me about his craft.

    143 - The Sunset Limited Jan 24, 2020
    Show notes

Cormac McCarthy is known more for his books and the films adapted from them, including The Road and No Country For Old Men. Even The Sunset Limited was made into a TV film for HBO starring Tommy Lee Jones and Samuel L. Jackson.

And now, McCarthy is receiving his premiere on these shores with The Sunset Limited in the Boulevard Theatre's dramatic debut with Jasper Britton and Gary Beadle, two phenomenal actors with credit lists as long as your arm, and who've appeared on stages up and down the country as well as on our screens, too.

Gary and Jasper took time out of their rehearsal schedule to chat with me about the play, relying on each other in a two-hander and also the excitement of playing in London's newest space.
