    Ctrl Alt Delete

Ctrl Alt Delete subverts the traditional career show. Instead, it’s for people who are more interested in shaping their work rather than letting their work shape them. The main focus is work, wellbeing and creativity. Hosted by bestselling author Emma Gannon, she has a gentle line of questioning that starts with work, and ends up wherever the conversations lead. Named Best Business podcast by Vuelio, Webby award nominee and named 50 Best Podcasts by Sunday Times, Ctrl Alt Delete is a gateway into new ideas – with past guests varying far and wide including Elizabeth Gilbert, Reni Eddo-Lodge, Jacqueline Wilson, Lena Dunham, Julia Cameron, Priyanka Chopra-Jonas, Ava DuVernay, Gillian Anderson and Mrs Hinch.

Naomi Alderman (Replay): Life As A Polymath Dec 01, 2022
    Show notes

My guest today is one of my favourite authors, the incredibly inspiring force of nature that is Naomi Alderman! She is the multi-award-winning novelist of Disobedience and The Power. The film adaptation of Disobedience had just come out starring both Rachael McAdams and Rachel Weisz. The Power is one of Obama's favourite books! It's an incredible sci-fi/dystopian novel about gendered violence and the fetishisation of power. The premise of the book is that women are more powerful than men. God becomes a “she”; and men are frightened to walk alone at night.

We discuss life as a polymath, what it's like having Rachel Weisz ring you up and want to turn your book into a film and how to know whether something is a good or bad idea when it comes to creating stuff. Thank you, Naomi. <3

    Show notes

This is a replay of my episode with Sophie Walker from April 2020. Sophie is a feminist activist, author and founding leader of the Women’s Equality Party. In this episode we are chatting about Sophie’s new book 'Five Rules for Rebellion' which is an inspiring, five-step journey to incorporating activism into our daily lives. It features stories of new and seasoned activists – from Amika George to Jack Monroe. It's all about feeling less full of despair, and more able to channel your anger, arm yourself with hope, practise perseverance and connect with others more compassionately. Hope you enjoy the episode!

Emma Forrest (Replay): Terrible First Drafts & Writing Your Life Nov 17, 2022
    Show notes

Today's guest is one of my favourites Emma Forrest – it is a replay episode that we recorded back in December 2019. She is the author of three novels, an essay collection and the memoir Your Voice In My Head, one of my favourite memoirs on mental health. In this episode we discuss her new novel ROYALS and we chat about her career, creativity, meditation, her writing process and even a little story about Adam Driver. Emma has a brand new brilliant memoir out called Busy Being Free “A Lifelong Romantic Is Seduced by Solitude" and will leave a link to it in the shownotes. It is a stunning memoir about divorce, but really; self-love, self-acceptance and romancing yourself. It's beautiful, bold, generous, fragile, strong, sexy, open-hearted with every sentence packing a punch. Hope you enjoy this episode.

Natalie Lue (Replay): How To Actually Get Stuff Done Nov 10, 2022
    Show notes

Hello and welcome back to Ctrl Alt Delete podcast! Over a series of three episodes I've been chatting to someone whose work I really admire and enjoy, Natalie Lue, author, podcaster and host of The Baggage Reclaim Sessions. She helps people-pleasers, perfectionists and relationship strugglers become more of who they really are and achieve what they want to achieve. In this episode we are discussing how we can find more time to focus and do our 'deep work', inspired by Cal Newport's brilliant book Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World and Oliver Burkeman's '3 or 4 hours' rule which you read on his blog here.

Throughout the episodes in this mini series, we’ll discuss how smarter technology can solve problems, create opportunities and transform the way we all live, learn, and work. The tools we use are important, and can empower passionate people who value their own health, wellbeing and the world they live in and impact change for a better world. I’m excited to dig in. Thanks to Lenovo for making this mini-series happen!

#368 Does Hybrid Working Help Or Hinder Our Health & Wellbeing? Nov 03, 2022
    Show notes

*This is a SPONSORED episode with Vitality UK*

If you're interested in a discussion around health, future of work and hybrid working this is one for you.

Today I’m in conversation with Dr Katie Tryon, Behaviour Change Expert and Director of Health Strategy at the health insurer, Vitality UK. Prior to moving into various health roles and moving to Kenya, she trained as a medical doctor at Oxford University and Imperial College London. Katie is passionate about sustainability and longevity in healthcare around the world and she is always finding new ways to push this agenda forward through her work at Vitality.

Today we're talking about hybrid working over a year since the so-called Covid ‘Freedom Day’ - how are businesses actually contributing to the health and wellbeing of those that work for them? How has work changed, and how do we make it better? Vitality recently partnered with CBI Economics to survey 350 chief executives, combining this with insights from more than 2,000 workers across the UK - to reveal the priorities, perceptions and experiences of workplace health and wellbeing support in this new working world. We'll be discussing these findings and how we can actually create healthier boundaries at work and at home. If you are interested in reading more about the findings, you can head to the show-notes and follow the link. Hope you enjoy this episode!

Christine Armstrong (Replay): The Myth Of Work-Life Balance Oct 27, 2022
    Show notes

This episode is with Christine Armstrong, author, researcher and speaker on the future of work. She is known to 'blow up the bullshit about working parenting and dig into the truth about what works and what really doesn’t.' You might have read her piece in the Times that went viral called 'why working mums are being sold an impossible dream about work/life balance — and how to set the record straight' a piece promoting the publication of her brilliant book The Mother of All Jobs: How to Have Children and a Career and Stay Sane(ish). We recorded this episode pre-pandemic, and since then Christine has been researching tirelessly our response to working from home en masse and asking what people want to happen as the world of work continues to change. In this episode, we got into the nitty gritty of parenting, work and why flexible working doesn't always work and how we can try and get it right. Hope you enjoy.

Africa Brooke (Replay): Why Uncomfortable Conversations Matter Oct 13, 2022
    Show notes

Africa Brooke is a consultant, coach, writer and speaker who specialises in helping many people including public figures. entrepreneurs, teams, and individuals with challenges related to self-censorship and self-sabotage. I really enjoy following Africa’s work, her straightforward (yet compassionate) no BS route to helping people examine what is going on with them, establish boundaries and define their values. There is such a genuine curiosity to Africa’s approach which I love.

In January 2021. Africa published an open letter called ‘Why I’m leaving the cult of wokeness’ which has now been read almost 5 million times. You can read the full thing below. We discuss this, why she invites people 'into the grey', why uncomfortable conversations matter and much much more. I hope you enjoy this conversation!
