Crying in My Car: A Podcast for Teachers

Crying in My Car is a weekly breath of fresh air to help teachers get through class without pulling their hair out or the hair of several students. No pedagogy here, just pure hilarity! Segments include Story Time, Teachers in the News, a weekly Top 5 and more endless comedy from comedians Devin Siebold and James Yon. Hear the perspective from both the educator side and the parent side of things while laughing uncontrollably until you cry… in your car (or not in your car, it doesn’t really matter to us.)

The exceedingly popular and hilarious TikTok teacher Bri Richardson (@honestteachervibes) joins the show this week. In Teachers in the News, teachers are finally getting paid by winning large cash awards for implementing innovative teaching strategies. Like the Million-Dollar Man, Tennessee is trying to make new teachers better and stronger than they were before. And we learn that you should be very careful after an oversized breast augmentation surgery, especially if you're a shop teacher.

We close out the show by trying on southern accents and phrases that will have you wondering what actually happens south of the Mason-Dixon.

We share a story sent in from a dedicated, first-year Special Education teacher and single mom of 3, who commuted an hour to work, was forbidden to take lunch breaks or bathroom breaks, and was not paid for any of the time she worked after quitting from the questionably illegal mistreatment! After Alabama makes it into Teachers in the News, Devin cracks some jokes about teaching there with his list of Top 10 Signs You Know You're Teaching in Alabama! *Disclaimer: No offense to Alabama. Devin is a professional comedian. Please refrain from sending hate mail.*

James is in recovery from making school lunches for his three children, and Devin is still picking metal shavings from his teeth from a former cafeteria blunder. Turns out, the corn does indeed have the juice, but you probably shouldn't drink it straight, no chaser.

This week Devin shares the story of a sloshed social studies teacher in your favorite, Teachers in the News. We try out some bad english teacher jokes, and share the story of a paraprofessional that kept getting promotions only to get paid less each time. We run work out the math, and it will shock you!

Tears of Halloween Horror Oct 31, 2022
    Show notes

In the hunt for Halloween treats, Devin and James know exactly where to find the full-size candy bars. Admin keep picking this week to be spirit week because every teacher wishes their soul would leave their body while sugar-highs ravage classrooms across the country. School fundraisers are still the talk of the teacher's lounge, and Devin shares his walk-a-thon pledge horror story.

Teachers are STILL making the news and we are and we continue to fight the battle over what is appropriate reading material. We cover what might be considered "Teachable Moments" for everyone, and close the show with the top ten ways to know how your teacher might be unqualified.

Tears of Indoctrination Apr 06, 2022

Teadching is under attack and people think that we are indoctrinating children. Devin dives into why this is absurd, but also why some teachers may be pushing back too hard. Teachers in the news has a teacher running for scholarships, a teacher that won't mute the music, and a long standing debate on whether or not student teachers should be paid.
