Sir Alkian's Guide to Surviving the Apocalypse Jun 12, 2019

Show notes

This we special guest Anne Gregersen joins us to talk about her best selling Dmsguild DnD supplement.

Sir Alkian's Guide to Surviving the Apocalypse is a guidebook for those who are looking to run apocalyptic scenarios in their 5e D&D games, ranging from an immediate danger that threatens the very structure of the world, to cases where the apocalypse struck a long time ago and people have lived in its wake for decades or centuries.

The guide can be used to shape worlds touched by any kind of calamity, not just those of an apocalyptic nature. If a realm is ravaged by the powers of a cruel god or if society has fallen victim to a horrific disease, this book can serve as a guide on how an area reponds to such forces.

50 Shades of Rage Jun 05, 2019

Show notes

The word barbarians brings to mind certain images. Snowbound brutes with fur cloaks and broad swords, their long hair whipping in the wind as they howl savage battle cries, undeterred by the exhaustion and pain that would plague mortal men. Hulking tribesmen on the endless tundra, their spears and hands bloody from the long day's hunt for game and enemies alike. Or, if you're a cultured sort of gamer geek, you might picture some of the old pulp magazine covers that prominently featured Conan, Kull, and the other barbarians created by Robert E. Howard and his ilk.

This week we delve into 50 Shades of Rage: Flavoring the Barbarian's Signature Power an amazing article from Neal Litherland on the many ways you can give your barbarians rage a unique feel and experience, without changing the mechanic.

100 Ways to Excuse a Character Absence Apr 24, 2019

Show notes

This week we cover the must have Dungeons and Dragons supplement from Alex Clippinger "100 Ways to Excuse a Character Absence" a must have DMsguild supplement.

"I'm so sorry, I can't make it this week."

We've been there. We've all been there. The dreaded session drop-out.

Someone can't make it. But your other players are ready to continue.

How do you explain why one of their companions is suddenly gone?

This is a silly little supplement with two d4 tables per class, giving random reasons why that character suddenly isn't here right now.

The excuses are always vague and strange enough to account for why an adventurer might go missing for minutes or hours at a time.

Go for the Eyes! Apr 17, 2019

Show notes

We discuss the amazing 5e supplement "Go for the Eyes" by Alex Clippinger

In Go for the Eyes, you'll find ways to throw curveballs at players who thought they knew monster stat blocks by heart.

Targeted Body Parts. Ever cripple a dragon's wing? Destroyed a beholder's central eye? Smashed a bone devil's stinger? Your players can overcome precise targeting and damage thresholds to inhibit a creature mid-battle.

Dynamic Traits. A frozen phoenix is momentarily slowed before it explodes back into full radiance. The mummy lord cackles, empowered by the curse it's inflicted on those around it. Discover new monster traits that complement lore and challenge foolhardy adventurers.

Class Analysis: GUN Mage Apr 10, 2019

Show notes

This week we discuss and break down our sorcerous origin the GUN Mage. A D&D character option on the DMsguild.

While many sorcerers find themselves able to naturally tap into the well of magic inside of them, some are not so lucky. Their search for a way to tap into this power has lead them into using artificially enhanced arcane focuses that pull the power inside within their reach. These special focuses are known as Genetic Unconventional Neo-focus, or G.U.N for short.
