Criminality — True Crime
Criminality

CRIMINALITY is a podcast for those of us who love reality TV, true crime, and want to hear all the juicy stories where the two genres intersect. Every other Friday, hosts, Melissa (one half of Moms and Mysteries podcast) and Rebekah (host of DIE-ALOGUE podcast), will share the true story of a reality personality who faced more than just champagne problems. You won’t find murder stories here, but fear not, there are crimes a plenty – fraud, arrests, mugshots, scandals, and more. CRIMINALITY: Because loving reality isn’t a crime!

THE DOLCE GROUP: It Takes Le Deux to Tango Aug 25, 2023

Show notes

We hope you’re hungry because Melissa is serving up a whole meal this episode! She introduces us to a Big Brother duo (Mike Boogie Malin and Will Kirby) who take their strategic partnership out of the house and into a collection of Los Angeles restaurants…restaurants you surely remember from the early 00’s when stars like Linsday Lohan, Audrina Partridge and Britney Spears showed up to see and be seen.

But the restaurant life wasn't all paparazzi and publicity. From Belly to Ketchup, Le Deux and The Lemon Basket, The Dolce Group’s restaurants faced multiple lawsuits with increasingly higher stakes, and Mike and Will’s conflict only escalated when The Amazing Race came calling.

Despite their sweet name, The Dolce Group’s legacy will forever be soured by Mike’s incessant appetite for more money and his inability to take no for an answer.

Here’s what the hosts are watching as of today’s episode:

TYRA BANKS: Smize Matters Aug 11, 2023

Show notes

Rebekah offers up America's Next Top Model as a quintessential reality show of the early-mid 2000’s. It’s a case study in reality tv before we knew better; and leading the way was Tyra Banks. Her undeniable talent and beauty gave her an early start in the modeling and entertainment industries, but her unpredictable antics often got her in trouble and always got the internet buzzing.

From two lawsuits on both ANTM and America’s Got Talent, Tyra had to defend her controversial actions, but it was in a criminal stalking case few people talked about that found Tyra in the role of victim that was anything but entertaining.

Love her or hate her, Tyra Banks is a pop culture icon; this episode will leave you wondering how we will ever survive if Tyra stops rooting for us.

Where Are They Now Part 3: Update Episodes 49-63 Jul 28, 2023

Show notes

Mid-summer seemed like the perfect time to pause, reflect, and re-cap! Did all the episodes since our last update episode have breaking news? No. Did we manage to fill an hour + regardless? You betcha. And the updates that we did get were… intense.

You really shouldn’t miss this episode because Melissa and Rebekah take comfort in the fact that neither of them have cats in their freezer… yet.

That leads us to what they’re watching:

Melissa: HOARDERS, A & E

Rebekah: The Secrets of Hill Song, HULU

Rebekah shared three clues for the next episode: Mail, Judge, Stalking!

Kelly Bensimon: Up Here, Down There, and Back Jul 14, 2023

Show notes

As we anticipate the imminent arrival of the NEW RHONY, Melissa takes us back to Peak RHONY — Scary Island; hop on board if you dare!

Here we meet Kelly Bensimon: model, mom… jelly bean lover. As we try to make sense of her “scary” behavior, Melissa informs us there is *literally* more to the story than what aired on the show, but the question is, does it make a difference?

On the heels of RHONY, Kelly didn’t exemplify model behavior and was charged with misdemeanor assault, but that didn’t stop her from publishing multiple books, getting into the luxury real estate game, and being a TikTok disaster.

Come for the nostalgia, stay for the Jeffrey Epstein reference nobody saw coming!

Next episode will be an update episode, and there are LOTS.

Lisa Nicole Cloud: Putting the POW in Women's EmPOWERment Jun 30, 2023

Show notes

Get your white lab coats on because Rebekah is introducing us to one of the Married to Medicine ladies, Lisa Nicole Cloud. Lisa’s debut on the show was much like her social media posts - pointless and problematic. From her predatory pyramid scheming to her Covid inspired business bust, you would be wise to remove all glassware in her presence and NOT DM her to achieve your greatest potential.

Come for the Lisa Nicole story, stay for compelling audio that will make you want to to watch Married to Medicine!

(Hulk) Hogan's ZEROES Jun 16, 2023

Show notes

If we’ve learned anything about shows whose titles claim SOMEONE knows best, it’s that the titular character rarely, if ever does. Melissa brings us a story to prove this point - an aspiring rocker, Terry Gene Bollea, hit the gym and was plucked from obscurity to be the next big wrestler. Rebranded as “HULK HOGAN” (heard of him?), he went on to become rich, famous, and utterly despicable - a sub-zero on the winsome scale.

From steroids to sex scandals, and a cameo you DID NOT see coming, this story will have you tapping out by the end!

VPR Season 10 Reunion Part 2 Recap: PUMP AND DUMP Jun 02, 2023

Show notes

Special episode alert for two reasons! First and foremost, Melissa is home from the hospital and shares what happened and how she is doing now (much better, thankfully)! Secondly, it’s special because in lieu of a new story we decided to dedicate some time to Scandoval by recapping Part 2 of the VPR Season 10 reunion, and wow, just wow.

From pill bottle antics to Andy parenting James, Melissa and Rebekah provide their insights on the reunion and each cast member. Melissa catches two moments Rebekah missed that are truly weird, and Rebekah wants to capitalize on Raquel’s accountability blazer.

Alexia Echevarria: Welcome to Miami (Bienvenido a Miami) May 19, 2023

Show notes

Today’s episode is on FYAH! At least Rebekah thinks so and she’s going to be really disappointed if you don’t agree. She’s heating things up in Miami and sharing the cinematic story of Alexia Echeverria – seriously, her life is a movie and she even stars as herself in the Netflix documentary, Cocaine Cowboys.

But you more likely know Alexia from The Real Housewives of Miami; the doomed franchise that was canceled after 3 seasons in 2014. In 2021 they rebooted on Peacock and the women are hotter than ever. Put on some neon swimwear and tune in to hear about Alexia’s drug cartel connection, and her many losses, loves, and lawsuits.

Stick around to the end of the episode where Melissa and Rebekah give a detailed account of their time together in New York City, including two near altercations!

Melissa gave the following clues for next episode:

Nick Lachey: Too "Hot" To Cancel May 05, 2023

Show notes

Nick Lachey hoped for a red hot career but as Melissa reveals in today's episode, it was only ever luke-warm at best.

As the frontman of the boy-band, 98 degrees, Nick longed for a solo career that would take him to the next level. Meanwhile his future wife, Jessica Simpson, was desperate to step out of Britney and Christna’s shadows. This would be a marriage made in heaven — or at least on MTV’s reality show, “Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica.”

Though Nick’s body temperature was normal, it seems there was a white hot rage that boiled beneath his frosted tip surface, and he directed it at unsuspecting people which got him into some legal and criminal trouble.

Tune in for some iconic reality show moments and to hear Melissa and Rebekah’s rating of boy bands from the 90’s and early 00’s.

Kelly Mi Li: Beyond the Bling Empire Apr 21, 2023

Show notes

Is it too soon to look back on 2020 with fondness? Not for the hellscape we lived, but for the reality shows Netflix gave us? Love is Blind, My Unorthodox Life, Selling Sunset, and the subject of today’s episode: Bling Empire.

Rebekah asks us to go back to the moment we meet Kelly Mi Li and re-examine her story which includes two guys; the raging red power ranger and a scamming first husband. She also asks us to be honest and admit to buying ringtones in the early aughts - who knew such a nostalgic memory would be at the center of this story’s multi-million dollar scam?! Come for the sugar baby stories, stay to find out if Kelly will win in her lawsuit against your favorite streamer and mine; NETFLIX!

We watched a lot of over the top wealth on display in the show, but her first husband Lin Miao, was making his money under the radar and thought he was above the law.

Melissa gave the following clues for next episode:

MTV

MUSIC

MARRIAGE

Here’s what the hosts are watching as of today’s episode:

Melissa: Jury Duty, Amazon Prime

Rebekah: Beef, Netflix
