Episode 136 The Bachelorette: Basic White Trends (Season 18, Week 3) Nov 04, 2021

Each week Megan is asking the Final Rose Tarot cards what we can expect from this week’s episode. This week’s shuffle resulted in two cards: Page of Mirrors and the Knight of Rings. Page of Mirrors is called The Gossip, and Knight of Rings is called the Late Bloomer - and for this episode, the cards are HIT-TING. We’re talking like, batting a thousand - just like our World Series Champs, the Atlanta Braves.

It’s week three of Michelle’s season, and the drama has arrived. We see a Top Gun style group date, featuring the gorgeous Jay Ellis, a one-on-one truth or dare date with Rodney, and a spoken word poetry date, hosted by poet Rudy Francisco. We bear witness to the much promoted “jacket gate” and… while the Jamie drama was bubbling last week, this week it is boiling over.

This week we are highlighting Rodney Mathews (IG Handle). Rodney and Michelle had such a sweet and funny one on one, we just have to love him! Danielle has her reservations, but Megan gets her on the Rodney train and they are headed to Stan Town, USA! We also say goodbye to zaddy Spencer Williams and Mollique Johnson.

Episode 135 True Crime: The Murder of Lorenzen Wright Nov 03, 2021

In week two of Michelle’s season, we see Michelle and Joe (Minnesota’s Mr. Basketball, 2011) play some one-on-one, on a group date. We also see WNBA stars Chicago Sky’s Diamond DeShields and Las Vegas Aces forward Dearica Hamby. Not surprisingly, Danielle covers a story about basketball and gives us some facts about b-ball and Memphis, Tennessee.

Danielle tells the story of basketball player and hometown hero Lorenzen Wright. Lorenzen played high school, college, and professional basketball in Memphis, Tennessee. Lorenzen, the community advocate, was murdered in 2010. His case had no leads until 2017 when a murderous love triangle and cousin were brought to light. NOTE: There is a suspect that goes to trial in 2022, and if a person isn’t convicted, they are presumed innocent until proven guilty. Don’t worry, we’ll follow for case updates.

Episode 134 True Crime: The Killing of Justine Ruszczyk Damond Oct 28, 2021

In the premiere, we met a few of Michelle’s students, including two Somali students. The metro area of Minneapolis has one of the highest Somali populations in the world (outside of East Africa). Will Danielle be giving us Minnesota stories all season long, probably!

Danielle tells Justine Ruszczyk Damond’s story. Justine was originally from Australia, living on the south side of Minneapolis. Justine was doing what a good neighbor does and was reporting a potential crime in her neighborhood. They say, see something, say something; so she did. Somali Minneapolis Police Officer Mohamed Noor and his partner arrived on the scene and shot Justine outside of her home, claiming they heard a noise that startled them and thought that Justine was the perpetrator.

This case occurred in 2017, prior to the murder of George Floyd, and it touches on officer-involved shootings, race, the Somali immigrant population in Minneapolis, and the policies and procedures of deadly force. (Story starts at: 12:15)

Episode 133 Bachelorette: It’s a Pizza Party Fail (Season 18, Week 2) Oct 27, 2021

Megan is starting a new segment this season, and doing a tarot card reading for each episode, thanks to the babes at Final Rose Tarot (follow them on IG!). Each week she’s asking the cards what we can expect from this week’s episode. This week’s card was the 5 of Rings, which is called “Insecure.” It’s pretty clear to us that one or more of these men are feeling pretty insecure in their connection.

It’s week two of Michelle’s season and so far the episodes are back to the normal format of the show, which we appreciate. We see a group date where Michelle teaches, and Mia, a student, schools everyone- mainly PeterPizza. We also see a one-on-one with Jamie (CONTENT WARNING for this segment: discussion of suicide at 23:54). We also see a basketball-themed group date where Joe really seems to shine. We see rumors start to pick up about Michelle and Joe’s connection. The episode is brought full circle with a rose ceremony.

This week we are going to say see ya and highlight Pardeep Singh. The neuroscientist podcaster, from New York, is the first Indian American to receive a rose on the Bachelorette. Danielle tells the story of Dru Sjodin who was a student at the University of North Dakota (AKA where Danielle went to law school). On top of going to school, Dru was also working two jobs AND volunteering in the community through her sorority. On November 22, 2003, everyone’s worst fear came true when Dru was abducted from the Columbia Mall parking lot in Grand Fork, by a dangerous sex offender with a troubled past. Dru’s murder leads to many law and policy changes in both North Dakota and Minnesota. There are also updates to the case as recent as last month, September 2021.

Episode 130 True Crime: The Murder of Nia Haqq and Michael “Mike” Muchioki Oct 14, 2021

On this episode we are joined by a special guest, our lady lawyer bestie and badass, Kelcee! She is filling in Megan, who is on vacation attending a family wedding.

Last week we saw the three hour Bachelor in Paradise finale (which could have been one hour)! We saw three couples get engaged and two couples reconnect after leaving the beach separately. We specifically see the first black couple of the franchise, Riley and Maurissa! We really enjoyed this season of BIP and hope you enjoyed the recaps! We are so excited for Michelle’s season!

Danielle tells the story of a beautiful black couple, Mike and Nia. They were college sweethearts who were described as successful, ambitious, outgoing, spontaneous, loving and humble. On April 3, 2010, they celebrated their recent engagement in New Jersey, where they were from. On their way home, they were met with three teens/young adults with a pure evil plot that left Mike and Nia dead, on what was supposed to be such a special day.

Episode 129 Bachelor in Paradise: They Found Their Person (Season 7 Finale) Oct 06, 2021

So we’ve come to the end of the road. Still, we can’t let you go... without one more episode. That’s right, it's the finale night of Season 7 of Bachelor in Paradise.

We see the end of the Noah and Abigail saga, we see fantasy suite dates and THREE engagements. One of the engagements is the FIRST engaged Black couple in franchise history, yes you read that correctly.

For the finale, we have 60 BIPOC points! We did not have any dates. We saw Abigail, Mari, Thomas, Aaron, and Serena P. give the gab. We also saw Chelsea and Natasha on our screen and were sent home. This franchise is not a safe space for black women so Danielle takes away 6 points for Natasha and Chelsea’s departure. Danielle gives 10 bonus points for the BIPOC contestants that get engaged. Megan points out that all the couples have one BIPOC person. We also see our first black love story with Maruissa and Riley. Danielle also takes away 1 point for the Kendall show up, Serena (and Joe) didn't deserve that mess during their engagement.

Episode 128 True Crime: Danziger Bridge Shootings - the Murders of James Brisette and Ronald Madison Oct 01, 2021

Last week on Bachelor in Paradise, a tropical storm shut down the beach. This week, Megan tells the story of a shooting in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina that devastated New Orleans, Louisiana. The Danziger Bridge Shootings, perpetrated by those tasked to protect and serve, resulted in the murders of James Brisette and Ronald Madison, and the shooting of four other surviving victims. Prepare to get real mad, real quick!

We also briefly discuss the Gabby Petito case. For the time being, we will not be covering this case, but we may in the future. There is new information coming in every day, the story may change drastically overnight. Gabby’s family deserves answers and they deserve justice. So do the families of thousands of missing people of color in this country. We also need to keep in mind that American Indigenous women face homicide rates at 10 times the national average.

Episode 127 Bachelor in Paradise: How the Faves Have Fallen (Season 7, Week 7) Sep 29, 2021

This week is very upsetting, we see the Aaron/Ivan confrontation that was teased two weeks ago and we got a snippet of last week. The battle reveals that our fave, King Ivan, may be a liar? Megan is inconsolable, so is Amanda from DTKPod (probably).

We also see two new arrivals, who come armed with date cards. It’s Anna Redman (she’s entertaining men for money) from Matt’s season and Mykenna Dorn (of facial expression fame) from Pilot Pete’s season.

We also see Paradise Prom, and Grocery Store Joe and Serena P are named Prom King and Queen.

This episode also brings us the rise and fall of the Noah and Abigail saga. Are they done for good? Are there red flags? We discuss.

This week we have 56 BIPOC points. We have no BIPOC dates or contestants with only screen time. Episode 126 Bachelor in Paradise: Titty Taco Finasco is the Title (Season 7, Week 6) Sep 22, 2021

This week we get even more coverage of the Kendall and Grocery Store Joe saga, but finally, get a conclusion when Kendall exits stage right.

We see a date with Kenny and Mari, it’s another sexualized food date, and Megan turtles in her shirt for this entire portion of the conversation because she hates these dates so much. Danielle was offended by the use of her favorite condiment, sour cream.

We also see Riley really open up to Maurissa and we stan them so much (gives us all the feels).

We have a brief interruption due to Tropical Storm Delores and the beach gets evacuated. But we get right back into the drama and see a confrontation brewing between Union Leader Aaron and Our King Ivan.

This week we have 75 BIPOC points. We see Demar (welcome King), Chelsea, Natasha and Mari go on dates for 40 points. We also hear from Serena P.,Ivan, Aaron, Riley, and Maurissa for a total of 35. Episode 124 Bachelor in Paradise: A Harem of Disgruntled Females (Season 7, Week 5) Sep 16, 2021

We are joined by one of our faves… It’s Amanda from Drinking the Kool-Aid Podcast!

This week we see the conclusion of the Brendan and Pieper drama and it ends in a pretty epic disrespectful fashion. We also get our third rose ceremony of the season, with a special rose going to Natasha. We get two new arrivals, who both have their own date card; Blake Monar (who we don’t know) goes on a date with Tia (aka Someone Who Shall Not Be Named) and Dr. Joe Park goes on a date with Natasha. Dr. Joe and Natasha’s date does not end well. We also see some love exchanged between Serena P. and Joe.

This week’s episode was full of ups and downs for the BIPOC points. We saw Natasha and Dr. Joe on a date. We heard from Jessenia, Pieper, Deandra, Maurissa, Riley, Thomas, Tammy, Aaron, and Serena P. We also, briefly, saw Mari, Ivan, and Abigail. Danielle gave 3 points each, for special guests Lil Jon and Tituss Burgess. She takes away 5 points for the over-sexualization of Riley and Maurissa, again. She gives 10 points for Natasha receiving that bonus rose from Paula and Wells, but then takes away 10 points for Brenden still getting between the Natasha / Dr. Joe date. Lastly, she takes away 10 points for the Ivan swerve. We know if Megan and Amanda had their way, the total BIPOC points would be 0 for the Ivan shade! All in all, the total is 59 points in regards to diversity.

Episode 122 True Crime: The Murder of Vicky Rose Miller Sep 09, 2021

We are playing a little catch-up since Danielle has been sick. A couple of weeks ago, we saw two very problematic Victoria’s on our Bachelor in Paradise screen, with Victoria Paul and Victoria Larson. Thankfully they are both gone.

Danielle decides to tell the story of an amazing Victoria that was taken from this life too soon, Vicky Rose Miller. Vicky was a bright and loved young woman, who was trying to find herself and navigate life. She was murdered in May of 1996 in Boynton Beach, Florida and her killer has never been caught. Episode 121 Bachelor in Paradise: For the Clou-T (Season 7, Week 4) Sep 08, 2021

We are joined tonight by a special guest, it’s Renise, one of the Black Bachelor Babes! Follow them on Instagram, IMMEDIATELY.

There was so much that happened in these four hours. The main focus of our conversation, and the conversation on social media, is the triangle between our Queen Natasha, Pieper, and Brendan. The way that Brendan treated Natasha is incredibly hurtful and manipulative.

Both Megan and Danielle admit they were wrong and make public apologies. Megan’s apology is to Natasha herself, and Danielle’s to the listeners about her former stanning of Brendan (Megan also joins in this apology).

AND THEN to watch a very similar triangle play out between Chris, Jessenia, and Alana… where everyone runs to Jessenia’s side, really makes us want to hug Natasha. We also chat about Joe and Kendall, plus the Kenny, Demi, Tia, and Mari square.

Episode 120: Bachelor in Paradise: Danielle Woke up to Violence (Season 7, Week 3) Sep 02, 2021

Danielle is not feeling great this week, and when she fell asleep, she woke up to straight violence on the beach.

This week is so chaotic, all the couples that you thought were strong are decidedly NOT strong. Mari wants to be able to go on dates with other people, which Kenny doesn’t really like, but then seems to hit it off with Demi. Chris Conran and Chasen enter, they have a double date card and they take Jessenia and Deandra. Grocery Store Joe and Serena P have a one-on-one date. Demi gave Kenny a cake for his birthday, Mari is not a fan of this and throws the cake in the fire, which very much upsets Riley, because he just wanted to eat the cake, damn. Aaron and Tammy are not doing well either, especially not after she chooses Thomas over Aaron. Karl gives Deandra a bracelet so Chasen has to one-up him and give her a necklace, which leads to a confrontation. Tre self-eliminates, then Tahzjuan self-eliminates. And then Becca Kufrin walks in. Noah and Abigail may be just friends? Someone, who may also be known as Tia Booth, comes in and she takes Kenny on a date which neither Mari nor Demi appreciate. And finally, Kendall arrives and makes a beeline to talk to Joe.

Pure chaos this week! OH, MAN.

Episode 118 Bachelor in Paradise: Sad Boi Summer (Season 7, Week 2) Aug 26, 2021

We are joined by special guests Abi and Aaron of Say Your Goodbyes Podcast! Buckle up because there are FOUR HOURS of content to discuss.

We see our new host from *NSYNC, Lance Bass! We see Demi and Brendan on a date and he swerves her HARD. Jessenia and Ivan basically fall in love. Serena P and Thomas go on a date - which causes lots of Sad Boi Grocery Store Joe content. We also see a date for Riley and Maurissa, which causes a lot of Sad Boi Cat Man Connor content. Lastly, we get pure comedic gold from Queen Tahzjuan!

Please don’t hate Danielle, she lost her paper with the points for Monday’s episode! For that episode, she did give 3 bonus points to Pieper, since she wasn’t even on the beach but everyone was talking about her. For Tuesday night we had a total of 64 points! We saw 4 BIPOC dates with Thomas and Sarena P., plus Riley and Maurissa. We heard from Aaron, Tre, Tahzjuan, Tammy, Karl, Abigail, Jessenia, and Natasha. We only saw Mari, Deandra, Brendan (let’s face it, he didn’t say much), and Ivan. Danielle took away 10 points for the Riley and Maurissa date. We have concerns about the way the date was depicted. We feel that they were hypersexualized for no real reason; between the questions that were asked on a first date, and the rare “boom boom room” sighting. The food choices were depicted as “nasty” or “gross,” but these foods are eaten around the world, in many communities of color. We definitely felt that there were microaggressions displayed in the interaction.

Episode 117 True Crime: The Murder of Gladys Ricart Aug 19, 2021

Last week, we saw the conclusion of the Bachelorette Season 17 with Katie Thurston as the lead. During the After the Final Rose (ATFR) we saw a heated conversation between Katie and Greg, it was the talk of Twitter. Some said that Katie seemed to still be angry to be over Greg and engaged to Blake.

This week Danielle covers the story of an angry ex that turned to murder. Gladys Ricart was from the Dominican Republic, coming to find the American dream in Washington Heights, New York. She started a relationship with Agustin Garcia, a successful Dominican businessman, that turned dangerous. Once Gladys moved on from Agustin, her wedding day, planned with a new man, turned deadly.

Last week at the Men Tell All, we saw one firefighter trainee just light it up on the stage. It felt like he got more air time at the MTA than all season long, so this one’s for you, Brendan.

Megan tells the story of the 1984 Pasadena fire at a hardware store that sadly took the lives of four people- two employees, and two customers. During the investigation, they believe that this fire was committed by a serial arsonist, and was even committed by an arson investigator. (Story starts at 10:03).

Episode 112 True Crime: The Aum Shinrikyo Cult and the 1995 Tokyo Subway Attack Jul 29, 2021

Last week on The Bachelor, we saw a very strange date between the virgin, Mikey P. and Katie. They lay in the woods and are instructed to get intimate by a Cuddle Queen. Mikey P. and Katie are wearing all white in a weird cult-ish Midsommar vibe. Mikey P. then whispers in Katie’s ear “you remind me of my mom.”

Danielle couldn’t pass up an opportunity to talk about cults! Plus Megan wouldn’t let her talk about mommy issues murders. Danielle covers the Aum Shinrikyo cult that started with a charismatic and psychopathic leader. It started with yoga and comics and ended with terrorism. The cult committed a horrific mass murder that killed 14 and injured over 5,000 people, attacking subways in the heart of Tokyo, Japan in March of 1995. (story starts at 13:55).

We also talk about the 2020 Olympics and Danielle’s experience in a relaxing float, which proved to be not relaxing AT ALL.

There were so many Thomas the Tank Engine memes after last week’s episode, after Thomas Jacobs' exit, that Megan had to base a story on trains.

Megan tells the story of the Great Train Robbery of 1963 in England. The robbery crew of 17 people stole £2.6 million (the 2020 equivalent of approximately 76 million US Dollars) in a very organized operation. One man was on the run after the robbery for five years before he was captured. Two of the men escaped prison after conviction and one was a fugitive for THIRTY-SIX YEARS. (Story starts at 12:04).

Last week, Katie told her survivor story, from an incident on New Year’s Eve where she said consent was not involved. This week Danielle tells the story of the Night of Shame in Cologne, Germany, New Year’s Eve 2015/2016. As days and months go by, the nation would be shocked to learn of roughly 1,200 women who are sexually assaulted by mobs of men in the city Square.

From this one night, an entire classification of people were targeted, cultures were blamed and laws were changed that should have been updated long before 2016.

This story is sure to make you as angry and we were.

Last week was the Bachelorette Season 17 premiere, with Katie Thurston as the lead! Jeff, the skin salesman (you read that right), arrived in an old, dusty Breaking Bad RV as his entrance. It did nothing but creep us and Katie out. He may (allegedly) be a murderer.

(10:19) James and Michelle Butler seem like a truly cool couple, full of life, laughter, and adventure. Originally from New Hampshire, they set out on a trip across the country. They were camping in their RV on the beach in Padre Island, Texas when two creeps (allegedly) murdered them to steal their truck and trailer and headed to Mexico.

Also known as “The Collector”, Robert kidnapped, raped, tortured, and murdered at least six men between 1984 and 1987. He would force his victims to endure his sadistic torture for weeks of captivity.

Danielle covers the LGBTQ+ hate crime murder of Mark Carson. Mark was gunned down after being attacked with homophobic slurs as he walked down the street with his friend minding his own business. Elliot Morales then pulled several stunts at trial that shocked us and the media.

Episode 94 True Crime: The Red Summer of 1919 May 13, 2021

In the unending Taylor Nolan tweet series, this week Megan takes on Anti-Black Racism. While we’ve discussed this topic several times on the pod, the topic is important enough to be discussed again.

Megan tells the story of the “Red Summer” of 1919, where deadly race-based killings popped up in 36 locations across the United States from April to November. Megan focuses on three locations: Jenkins County, Georgia, Chicago, Illinois, and Elaine, Arkansas. In total, the Red Summer took the lives of between 151-285 people. At least 642 people were wounded.

Danielle tells us, briefly, about India’s current COVID crisis. She then goes on to tell us about Priyadarshini Mattoo. Priya, for short, was a beautiful 23-year-old law student that was stalked and brutally murdered. The injustice of her murder is brought to light, while highlighting other cases that occurred around the same time. There is a conviction at the end, but the final outcome will leave you shocked, angry, and speechless!

This is the story of the Robert Charles Riots that took place in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1900. Robert Charles was sitting on a porch, while Black, when he was confronted by police. A city wide manhunt began and race riots, led by white mobs, popped up around the city. A total of 28 people, including Robert Charles, were killed in the riots, more than 50 wounded.

Megan has noticed a lot of Bachelor Nation lives in Arizona, and SEVERAL members of Bach Nation go to Habit Salon outside of Phoenix, SO, Megan tells the story of Ernesto Miranda, a young man who grew up near Phoenix, Arizona, and was murdered at the age of 34.

Ernesto had his own criminal history, including a 1963 rape and kidnapping. Megan won’t go into details about this. Ernesto’s trial (and re-trial) led to the United States Supreme Court case that has had a lasting impact on the criminal justice system in America - it’s Miranda v. Arizona (aka your Miranda rights).

Episode 90 True Crime: The Murder of Mary Phagan and the Lynching of Leo Frank Apr 15, 2021

We’re still working through the communities that were attacked in Taylor Nolan’s tweets. This week, Megan focuses on the Jewish community and talks about Anti-Semitism around the world and in the United States.

We jump in the way back machine, to 1913 and Megan tells the story of 13-year-old Mary Phagan who was murdered at the Atlanta, Georgia factory she worked in. Media attention turned to the supervisor of the factory, Leo Frank, a Jewish man. Leo is then tried and convicted of Mary’s murder, on very suspicious testimony. After his sentence is commuted, from death to life in prison, a white mob lynched Leo Frank in Marietta, Georgia.

Today, Leo Frank is widely believed to be innocent of Mary’s murder. The true murderer is believed to be the lead witness for the prosecution.

Episode 89 True Crime: The Murder of Gerlie Alpajora and the Disappearance of Keith Davis Apr 08, 2021

We decided to cover stories that highlight the marginalized populations that were attacked in the recently resurfaced tweets by Taylor Nolan. This week, we focus on the Asian-American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities.

Danielle tells the story of the murder of Gerlie Alpajora in the Camarines Sur province, located in the Philippines. Gerlie was assassinated because of her advocacy work targeting illegal, unregulated, and unreported fishing in the area.

Gerlie’s murder also brought light to the disappearance of Keith Davis, both highlighted in the Netflix documentary Seaspiracy. The documentary is about the environmental impact of industrialized fishing directed by and starring Ali Tabrizi. The film features human impacts on marine life and the human rights violations that surround the fishing industry.

On April 28, 1996, Martin Bryant committed the worst massacre in modern Australian history (by one person) that impacted Australia forever when he murdered 35 people and injured up to 23 visitors of the Port Arthur Historic Site in Tasmania. Danielle describes the events of that day and the fundamental and strict gun control laws that led Australia to the end of its mass shooting incidents.

Danielle covers the story of another problematic white woman, Rachel Dolezal. Rachel, also known as NKechi Amare Diallo, was exposed in 2015 after news broke that she was pretending to be black, when she was actually born to two white parents in Montana. The story made national headlines and had the world talking, so we had to tell you about it.

Megan tells the story of the West Nickel Mines School shooting in October 2006. This was the one-room Amish schoolhouse in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where a man walked in and shot five young girls, and injured five more.

Week 8 of The Bachelor, we saw Rachael Kirkconnell have a skydiving hometown date (that told us nothing about her being from Georgia). Rachael did not have the softest landing, we are glad that she is ok, but think our BIPOC ancestors had a hand in that and we thank them!

Danielle covers the 2003 mysterious death in Lincolnshire, United Kingdom, of Stephen Hilder. Stephen was a young, but experienced, skydiver that plummeted to his death during a national competition. Stephen’s death was immediately suspicious based on the way his parachute was tampered with. The question still lingers as to whether Stephen’s death was murder or suicide.

Episode 77 True Crime: The Fires of Paul Kenneth Keller, the Pyromaniac Feb 18, 2021

On week 5 of The Bachelor, Sarena C. called Katie out for all the drama she seemed to be inserting herself in. Sarena called Katie an arsonist and says she is setting little fires everywhere.

Danielle tells the twisted story of another person setting actual fires all over the Seattle, Washington area (where Katie is from). Paul Kenneth Keller was obsessed with setting fires since he was 8 years old. The criminal profile, created by John Douglas, is right on the money.

Paul’s fires did take the lives of thee people at the Four Freedoms Retirement Home and he is a possible suspect in many more fire-related deaths.

WOW. It has been a week for the history books in Bachelor Nation. There is so much going on, and honestly have to talk about it.

We discuss recent events with friends Ash from Ash Talks Bach and Julia from Bachelor Theory. Last week, we saw a 1-on-1 date with Rachael Kirkconnell, who now seems to be a front runner.

Rachael is from Cumming, Georgia, in Forsyth County. Forsyth County has a long history of racial tensions, including running approximately 1,100 black people out of the county.

Megan does a deep dive into the sundown towns, the history of Forsyth County, the 1912 Black Expulsion, and more recent events in the county’s history.

Episode 74 True Crime: The Crime of Interracial Marriage, Loving vs. Virginia Feb 11, 2021

One week 5 of The Bachelor we saw Matt, our first black male lead, go on dates with racist Rachael and Kit. In reflecting on Black History Month, and the “progress” the ABC franchise has made with a POC lead, Danielle covers the case of Loving v. Virginia.

Mildred and Richard lived in Virginia and wanted one simple thing, to get married under the law. But that wasn’t possible and they found themselves in jail and pleading guilty to criminal miscegenation laws. Anti-inbreeding laws that brought them all the way to the United States Supreme Court of the United States, defending their right to be lawfully married and paved the way for many to marry those who they love.

Episode 73 The Bachelor: Little Fires Everywhere (Season 25, Week 6) Feb 09, 2021

There’s honestly so much that happens in this episode. We get the resolution of the Jessenia/MEREDITH 2-on-1 date, a one-on-one date for Katie, a bowling group date, and a one-on-one date for Pieper!

We spend a lot of time discussing Katie, her edit, and a confrontation between her and Serena C. We agree that the toxicity in the house needed to be addressed, but we also fully believe that Katie was complicit in a lot of the bad things happening in the house.

Also, a cast member from Colton’s season returns and demands to speak with the manager, it’s Karen time! (the contestant formerly known as Heather Martin)

Our POC Highlight of the week is Magi! She is honestly better than Matt and this show. Magi is the Ethiopian pharmacist and model. She’s gorgeous and smart and funny. And we will certainly miss her.

Happy Black History Month! Remember, Black history is OUR history. Rosewood was a prominent black community in Florida, that was destroyed by a lie, by a white woman, regarding an assault by a black man. The stories of rape, murder, looting, arson, and neglect by elected officials became a hushed secret, not spoken in public, but passed down at dinner tables from survivors to their children. It wasn’t until 1982 that survivors of the massacre spoke up and 1993 until their stories were publicly acknowledged. Content Warning: Lynching, Sexual Assault, Animal Cruelty.

Episode 70 True Crime: The Murder of Helen Bailey… and Presumed Murder of Diane Stewart and the Death of Amy Joyner-Francis Jan 28, 2021

On week 2’s group date, the women wrote their own romance stories of their love story with Matt. Each story was HEAVY on the erotica, I might add. Because of that, Megan covers the story of a murdered author, Helen Bailey. Helen was a young adult author in England who went missing and was discovered in a septic tank, three months later. Her murder may be connected to the seemingly natural death of Diane Stewart. Content Warning: Animal Cruelty (Story starts at: 1:43).

We also saw Sarah interrupt time Katie was having with Matt during the group date cocktail party. Sarah was not even on that date. Katie told the women about the intrusion and they confronted Sarah,which Bachelor Nation had a lot to say about it and, In true Bachelor fashion, the words bully and attack were used. Danielle covers the story of Amy Joyner-Francis who was bullied and attacked by fellow high school classmates, which ultimately led to her death. (Story starts at: 29:41).

Episode 67 The Bachelor: This Episode was Triggering, Toxic, and Trash (Season 25, Week 3) Jan 19, 2021

It’s week 3 of Matt James’ season and we are exhausted.

We see a group date that Ashley Iconetti and Chris Harrison host, all to promote Chris’s erotic novel? On this date, the women have to write a romance (er, mainly sex) story for Matt and perform this story in front of everyone.

We also see a 1-on-1 date with Serena P, and they go horseback riding and have a picnic. But unfortunately, most of this episode is focused on drama. Last week the focus was Queen Victoria. This week’s drama is focused on Sarah, who interrupted the group date. Like we said, we’re exhausted.

Our POC highlight of the week goes to Kristin Hopkins! She’s a fellow attorney and practical queen (she wore a shower cap during last week’s date with the paint throwing!) She did not get enough screen time this season, and we hope to see you on a beach soon, Kristin!

Episode 66 True Crime: The Murder of Faith Hedgepeth and the Story of the Most Hated Woman in America Jan 14, 2021

This week we cover stories based on Matt James’ premiere episode!

Bachelor Matt James is originally from North Carolina, so Megan covers the story of the unsolved murder of Faith Hedgepeth. Faith was an Indigenous college student at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. We also talk about the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) crisis that both the United States and Canada are currently facing. This case is unsolved, there is a $40,000 reward available for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the murder of Faith Hedgepeth. If you have information about this case, call the Chapel Hill Police Department (919) 969-2001, or the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation, (800) 334-3000. (Story starts at 14:27).

During the premiere of The Bachelor, we saw Matt James lead his opening speech to the women with a prayer. Bachelor Nation had mixed feelings about the forced religious participation.

This week we cover a case that starts with a prayer and ends with murder. Madalyn Murray O'hair is known as the most hated woman in America after she sued Baltimore Public Schools for forcing her son to recite the Lord’s Prayer in school. Madalyn went on to form the Atheists of America, gaining fame and money, money that someone else wanted to take from her and her family. (Story starts at 51:05).

We also address the acts of domestic terrorism taken out on the US Capitol building on January 6, 2021.

Episode 59 The Bachelor: The Emotional Rollercoaster on this Righteous Endeavor (Season 16, Week 10) Dec 17, 2020

It’s hometown time! Well, as hometown-y as we can be in the middle of a global pandemic.

We see Brendan, Tayshia and Brendan’s niece hit a cute little carnival. We get to meet his brother and sister in law.

Zac and Tayshia “go to” New York City. Tayshia sits down with Zac’s parents and Zac’s older brother. Zac’s brother gets to some serious questions QUICK.

Ivan and Tayshia do some Filipino cooking, and later we get to meet Ivan’s brother! He’s talked so much about him through this season! Seeing a formerly incarcerated person with face and neck tattoos on our TV screens was AMAZING and relatable.

We also see Ben and Tayshia “go to” the Venice Beach, CA Boardwalk. Tayshia gets to meet Ben’s sister, who he says, saved his life.

It’s also the Men Tell All, full of bickering and pettiness.

Episode 58 True Crime: The Murder of Connor Shockley and The Assault and Subsequent Death of David Ritcheson Dec 14, 2020

Megan bases her story on Ben Smith, who is from the Indianapolis area originally. This case, in Fishers, Indiana, was only the second in the town's history, and unfortunately ended the life of Connor Shockley, who had just recently graduated from high school. Content Warning: suicide, sexual assault. Danielle also bases her story on Ben Smith’s conversation surrounding his attempts to take his life. David Ritcheson was sexually assaulted by two friends from high school and subsequently completed suicide. Episode 56 True Crime: The Life and Disappearance of William Morgan Dec 07, 2020

This week we saw Tayshia go ghost hunting on the La Quinta Resort property on a date. They talk about how the original owner of the resort, Walter Morgan died on the property.

Today, Megan tells the story of a William Morgan who mysteriously disappeared in the 1800s, likely at the hands of some local Masonic groups. Megan gives some background on freemasonry as a whole, and we dive into some of the conspiracy theories that always seem to surround the group.

Episode 55 The Bachelor: Were These Men Even on Clare’s Season??? (Bachelorette Season 16, Week 8) Dec 03, 2020

These men are really starting to open up, and we love it. This week Tayshia had a 1-on-1 date with Zac C. Zac C shares his story of previously being married, discovering a brain tumor, developing a drug addiction, and his recovery! (Content Warning: discussion of addiction)

There’s a group date where the guys have to make a couple of different art projects, a lot of the guys get really vulnerable and we love to see it. We also get a deeply personal story from Ben who shares his battle with bulimia. (Content Warning: discussion of eating disorders)

Tayshia also goes ghost hunting with Eazy. Because of his current sexual assault allegations (that production is aware of), Megan gives some statistics on sexual assault in the US, and decided to recap the rest of the date calling him "That Guy". She had to recap the date to creep out Danielle - you know Danielle hates the ghosty whoasties! (Content Warning: discussion of rape and sexual assault)

April 19th, 1995, a bomb went off in the heart of Oklahoma City. Until the September 11 attacks in 2001, the Oklahoma City bombing was the deadliest terrorist attack in the history of the United States. It remains the deadliest act of domestic terrorism in U.S. history. 168 people were killed. 19 of those were children. Another 680+ people were injured in the blast.

Episode 54 True Crime: The 2016 Spalding Shooting (Murder of Claire and Charlotte Hart) Nov 30, 2020

This week we saw the BEST episode of the Bachelor Nation franchise (according to us). During the conversation between Ivan Hall and Tayshia, Ivan discusses his brother’s incarceration and how it affected his family. Often, the family members of offenders are looked over and not recognized as survivors.

Danielle tells the story of the 2016 Spalding Shooting. Claire and her children (Charlotte, Ryan, and Luke) spent years being tortured by their father, Lance, in a house of horror. Lance had planned to kill his wife and daughter for weeks. Claire and Charlotte finally escaped and fled the home, only to be gunned down by Lance who then turned the gun on himself. Ryan and Luke took action after their father was given excuses, by family and the media, for his actions. Ryan and Luke made it their mission to bring light to the events that led up to the shooting and posthumously hold their father accountable for what he did.

Megan covers a case featuring a comedian’s murder, the Capetown murders of Brett Goldin and Richard Bloom. Candace was an adopted foster child, with severe mental health needs, who was killed during a 70-minute attachment therapy session purported to treat reactive attachment disorder (RAD).

Candance’s adoptive mother, Jeane Newmaker, traveled to the Attachment Therapy mecca of the United States, Evergreen, Colorado to receive “treatment” during which Candace was forced to participate in a rebirthing ceremony and suffocated to death, leading to criminal convictions and changes in laws.

Episode 44 True Crime: The Murder of Wayne Amey and George Teazis (aka George Templeton) and The Murder of Elizabeth “Lizzi” Marriott Oct 26, 2020

This week we witnessed a VERY problematic game of Bachelor strip dodgeball. This isn’t the first problematic game we have heard of (listen to our interview with Erica Rose here). Forced nudity is never okay, regardless of gender. Further, in the episode, it was made to appear that this date was all Clare’s idea. We know this is far from the truth as the leads don’t pick dates, production does. Production, let’s do better - let’s do much better.

We both talk about crimes related to the strip theme. Danielle covers the case of exotic dancer Robyn Lindholm, who has been called a Black Widow, Femme Fatale, Master Manipulator and Lady McBeth in Lycra. Robyn convinced her new lover to kill her ex-lover, not once … but TWICE. (Story starts at: 11:33).

Megan then covers the case of the murder of Elizabeth “Lizzi” Marriott. Lizzi seems like she was just such a sweetheart, and was just trying to make more friends. But these two friends had a different plan and murdered Lizzi after a game of strip poker went very, very wrong. Episode 43 The Bachelor: A Bunch of Orange Flags (Bachelorette Season 16 Week 2) Oct 21, 2020

Oh boy, this week we saw very problematic behavior and awkward moments: toxic masculinity, unnecessary strip dodgeball, trauma therapy on the first date, Clare confronting men left and right, breaking rules etc.

While we talk about it all, we are joined by our fellow lady lawyer and Cutie Kelcee! Kelcee last joined us on the pod in June for the recap of Kaitlyn Bristowe’s GOAT season (check that out here). We tried to Kelcee sign up for Matt James season of the Bachelor, but she wasn’t having it. This episode we make a bet that if Demar doesn’t get Clare’s final rose, we can slide in his DMs about her awesomeness.

Episode 42 True Crime: The Murder of Andrew Gardner and the Murder of Bernardo Gouthier Oct 19, 2020

This week we watched the premiere of the 16th season of the Bachelorette, starring Clare Crawley! Due to COVID-19, the entire season is being filmed at the La Quinta Resort and Club in La Quinta, California, and not at the Bachelor Mansion.

Megan covers a case committed by another woman named Clare. Fair warning, it’s a very hard case, it is an incredibly horrific instance of domestic violence. Andrew Gardner, the victim in this case, was tortured for months by his girlfriend, Clare Nicholls. (This story starts at 9:47).

Danielle takes on a case from La Quinta, California. This case didn’t seem to get the coverage it deserved. Danielle tells the twisted story of the murder of Bernardo Gouthier, a Brazillian art dealer who was the subject of a possible murder for hire plot by his girlfriend's ex-husband. Episode 39 True Crime: The Murder of Amie Harwick and the Murder of Laurie Show Sep 24, 2020

This week we both cover cases involving stalking, due to the recent allegations made by Cassie Randolph against Colton Underwood (The Bachelor Seasons 23). First and foremost we need to say that on this podcast we believe women, and we hope Cassie is safe and able to get the help she needs during this time.

Given the nature of the cases and topics we cover, we’re putting a larger content warning here. CONTENT WARNING: stalking, harassment, intimate partner violence, domestic violence, violence against women. In addition, those that have not been convicted are innocent until proven guilty.

Danielle loves a timeline, and she shares a timeline of events of Cassie and Colton’s relationship. The timeline starts at 11:07.

Megan gives stats on stalking both in the intimate partner violence (read: domestic violence) setting and non-intimate partner violence setting. The stats session begins at 27:33.

Danielle tells the story of the stalking and murder of Amie Harwick who was an absolute BOSS of a woman. Amie, who was well known in her own right and her work in the LGBTQ+ community, became even more well known due to her previous engagement to actor and comedian Drew Carrey. This story is an example of intimate partner stalking and intimate partner violence. (Note: Drew Carrey is NOT the alleged perpetrator of this crime). This story starts at 35:52.

Megan tells the story of the stalking and murder of 15-year-old Laurie Show. Laurie was murdered by a trio of gross young people. This story is an example of non-intimate partner violence and stalking. CONTENT WARNING: sexual assault (no details, Megan promises). This story starts at 1:04:15.

Danielle discusses the controversy surrounding Moolah’s legacy in the WWE, and women’s wrestling, that was highlighted recently when a women’s wrestling event was to be named after Moolah and fans were not having it!

Danielle covers the ambush of Monica Spear, Thomas Berry, and Maya Berry Spear (Maya survives). The family was visiting Monica's home country of Venezuela from the United States. Monica was a national treasure as a Miss Universe pageant contestant and a telenovela star. The story starts at 29:44.

Episode 36 The Bachelor: Juan Pablo, Bad Guy or Bad Edit? (Juan Pablo GOAT recap) Sep 08, 2020

This week on the GOAT was "the worst Bachelor in franchise history" Juan Pablo Galavis. They basically used his season as a catalyst to show us Clare before the Bachelorette begins.

Chris Harrison has some very strong feelings about Juan Pablo that he makes SUPER CLEAR. We question his motivations

ABC fully decided to give Juan Pablo a villain edit, but for some reason didn’t go FULL edit. This was Megan’s first season of the Bachelor ever, and Danielle never saw the season so Megan was able to add some additional context for Danielle.

7-year-old Sherrice Iverson, was roaming a casino in Primm, Nevada, alone after being in the care of her 14-year-old brother, Harold, in the casino's arcade. Sherrice's dad had driven in the middle of the night to gamble. This resulted in Sherrice running around unmonitored. Eventually, Jeremy Strohmeyer followed Sherrice into a women's restroom and took her life.

The case drew national attention by focusing on the safety of children in casinos and on the revelation that Strohmeyer's friend, David Cash Jr., said he saw the crime in progress but did not stop it.

We spend some time discussing the Taylor/Corinne drama from Nick’s season. We talk about emotional intelligence and emotional maturity. We talk about whether or not Taylor was bullying Corinne.

We declare ourselves to be a podcast that is squarely against a nap shame. We will not stand for it. We also demand a recipe to cheese pasta (*NOT* cheesy pasta) to see if it’s what we think it is.

Of course, we spend a decent amount of time loving on the icon and legend Rachel. Representation matters. In this GOAT episode, Chris talks to Tayshia and Natasha Parker about the impact of Rachel on this franchise, there is more work to be done.
