Ep 66: Profiling The Batman with Umberto Gonzalez, Part 1 Mar 04, 2022
    Show notes

In this episode, Laura is joined by special guest Umberto Gonzalez, fanboy journalist and Heroic Hollywood founder who currently covers the superhero beat for The Wrap.

Why is Laura is profiling The Batman, you might be wondering? Having seen the movie with Umberto, it became apparent that The Batman was more of a dark and twisty psychological thriller than a superhero movie! It’s a detective story about an investigation that becomes very personal.

And with The Batman in full on detective mode, and Matt Reeves disclosing that he researched profiling and serial killers in a Q&A session after the movie, Umberto asked Laura questions about the psychology and profile of The Batman and The Riddler and what Matt Reeves and Peter Craig, the co-writers, got right – and wrong – and so Laura decided to share the conversation with you lovely lot.

As a 30-year Batman vet, Umberto gives Laura the scoop on what he thought about The Batman as well as the casting of Robert Pattinson into this iconic role and so much more. You won’t want to miss this.

** Spoiler alert ** We go in, so watch the movie before you listen!

Ep 65: Missing and Murdered in Wyoming with Cara Chambers and Dr Emily Grant Feb 25, 2022
    Show notes

When 22-year-old Gabby Petito disappeared in September 2021 there was national and international media coverage, and rightly so. However, when her body was found in Wyoming it brought into sharp relief the 715 indigenous people, 466 who were women, who went missing in Wyoming a decade before Gabby who received little, if any, attention in the news or on social media.

Laura wants to help change this. In this episode Laura interviews Cara Chambers, Director of the Division of Victim Services at the Office of the Attorney General of Wyoming and Dr Emily Grant Senior Research Scientist at the University of Wyoming. Both Cara and Dr Emily work on the Missing and Murdered Indigenous People Task Force in Wyoming.

We spotlight the findings from the Missing and Murdered Indigenous People Wyoming State-wide report authored by Dr Emily Grant. Laura highlights a hot spot in the report which warrants further investigation, and discusses a number of cases including 23-year-old Jade Wagon who was killed on January 21 2020 one year after her sister, Jocelyn Watt and her fiancé, Rudy Perez were murdered on January 5 2019, and; 28 year old Dawn Michelle Day who was discovered floating in a Fremont County waterway in Wyoming on 21 July 2012. You won’t want to miss this important conversation.

Ep 64: Murdered and Missing in Montana with Loni Coombs Feb 18, 2022
    Show notes

Laura interviews former LA prosecutor and legal expert Loni Coombs about her new documentary Murdered and Missing Montana. Gabby Petito’s case received a lot of media attention – and started a conversation about the fact that Native American women and girls are the most stalked, raped and murdered in America yet no-one is talking about them.

Indigenous women are 10 times more likely to be killed than the national average. And Indigenous girls and women aged between 10-34 years of age the third most prevalent cause of death is murder. 94% of Native America women will be raped or coerced in their lifetime. We get into how and why and we discuss three cases in particular, Selena Not Afraid, Kaysera Stops Pretty Places and Henny Scott.

You can watch the show on Peacock or on demand on Oxygen.

Ep 63: Preventing Murder in Slow Motion™: Fighting for Truth, Justice and Accountability with Manuel Fernandez, Bengi Stubbings and Celia Peachey, Part 5 Feb 11, 2022
    Show notes

In this episode Laura continues her very real and authentic conversation with Maria Stubbing’s brother, Manuel Fernandez, Bengi Stubbing’s Maria’s son and Celia Peachey, Maria’s daughter.

We discuss what it took to challenge the police and the system, the inquest itself and what needs to change. We also talk about trauma recovery and post traumatic growth.

You’ll also hear from Bengi. We had another conversation following his trauma related response. He felt he needed to speak again for himself and his mum. That tells you a lot about the man he has become. Please be advised this is not an easy listen but it is an important conversation that we agreed to share.

Please support our campaign work to protect women by sharing this important episode with family, friends and colleagues and amplify our voices.
