#188: Wrapping Up the Pursue God Series Nov 09, 2022
    Show notes

What are your reasons for not having a strong relationship with God?

In this podcast, we unpack SIMPLE but POWERFUL ways you can strengthen your relationship with God. In every season you are in, God is pursing you and He wants to have a relationship with you. It will give you the strength to live each day to the fullest!

The Parent to God is the covering relationship for a family. We are wrapping up this series by talking about how GREAT God is amidst the change. This fall air and crisp evenings has us excited about what all God is going to do as this year comes to a close.

What are practical ways to connect to God?

    • Get out in nature (especially amidst the changing seasons)
    • Worship
    • Read your Bible
    • Find the small moments to invite God
    • Asking God for His perspective on each situation

“God, what is your perspective on this situation? Show me your ways.” -Suz

What are ways you spend time with God?

    • Consistency to get up in the mornings
    • Along the way (especially with small children)
    • Leave for work early and spend time with God there
    • Find quiet times in your days
    • Ask your spouse what they need to connect with God

Fight and articulate for your time with God. Your spouse may not know what you need, so tell them!

“It may not be easy, but it is worth it!” - Don

What do I do if I love God but my kids don’t? How do I help my child hear God for themself? What about my spouse?

    • Our example is more important than our words/instruction
    • The questions are so important! (Look for that the questions are doing in your child’s heart)
    • Create experiences for them to see/know God
    • Allow the truth of the Gospel to be in front of your kids as often as possible
    • Invite your kids to thank God for the everyday miracles

What if my family doesn’t like church? How do we connect with God within the church?

    • Everyone has a story and church needs to be at the center of it
    • Kids need a foundation for the truth, which is found within the church
    • Jesus created the church but it is imperfect, we are called to contribute, not just consume
    • Ask God what church your family needs to be a part of

“The church is an extension of your family. We don’t walk away from family when it’s messed up... so we don’t walk away from the church when it feels messy.” - Suz

What else can we do to help make God a priority in our family?

    • Invite Him into every decision
    • Talk about God and give Him credit for the little things
    • Technology is everywhere – put God things in front of your kids
    • Thank God for food, toys, teams, and everything we are a part of each day
    • Include your kids in the ups and downs of life (emotions, decision, etc...)
    • Show them how you include God in your feelings and life decisions

    #181: Pursuing God is a Delight Sep 21, 2022
    Show notes

Do you know how to DELIGHT in the Lord?

Do you feel burdened by the relational aspect of God?

The series we are in is called “Pursuing God.” Today we are sharing our personal relationships with God, how we have learned to grow and know them, and how we interact with Him now.

Our faith and knowledge of scripture were very different. We talk to parents all the time who are struggling to be unified with their spouse when it comes to beliefs. It's normal and healthy to have a unifying period in your marriage.

Suzanne had a deep faith and a basic foundation of knowing God. Don grew up in the church and quickly sought to achieve. He saw knowing God as something to obtain/win at.

After we were married, Don became a husband and a dad overnight. He learned quickly that he needed to figure out what he believed and what his purpose is within life and family.

After a year of learning about our beliefs, we joined a startup local church. Through this community, we studied scripture, had friends and hit a whole new level of relationship with God.

Our relationships with God have matured over the 30+ years of marriage and parenting. We are continually seeing new aspects of God's character in our life. It doesn't matter where you are on your journey with Jesus, He wants to connect with you.

    • What has God taught Suzanne?

      • God was tender and kindhearted with her
      • She felt chosen and blessed to raise all those girls
      • God helped her cling to His word and had it around her often
      • The value of building family values and caring about sibling culture

      What/How has God taught Don?

      • Seminars and seeking our information helps build faith
      • The concept of authority
      • Siblings can and should be best friends
      • Seeing situations from God’s perspective
      • How to carry God's heart into the workplace

These are just a few of the things God has taught us along the way. He is our Creator and Savior. He meets all our needs (better than anyone else can...).

So, what do we do? (We dare you to try these things this week)

      • Believe the best in your spouse and call it out
      • Show kindness and see if it leads to repentance (it’s supernatural)
      • Believe and know God is real and ALIVE
      • Give your feelings to God and walk with Him daily

Psalm 37:4 says, "delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart."

We get to delight in the Lord everyday, for the rest of our lives! That’s what we are doing when we pursue God, delighting in Him! We receive fullness of life when we hang out with our Creator!

#180: Fatherhood, Football, and a Family Crisis (Feat. Chad Hennings) Sep 14, 2022
    Show notes

What do you do if your family member is hurting?

Chad Hennings, a mighty man of God, former pro-football player for the Dallas Cowboys, and faithful husband + father joins us this week on season four of our podcast!

Chad shared how early on in his fatherhood journey, his oldest son, Chase, only 2-years-old, experienced adverse effects from a vaccination. This created a lot of uncertainty in their family. As years went on, Chase continued to worsen and experienced immense pain. Chad shares his perspective of his children's upbringing and what God taught him through the traumatic experiences. He was so burdened with Chase’s condition and it broke his heart.

Chad shares how this family crisis affected his marriage, his outlook on life and ultimately his journey as a father. God showed him how to rest in His plans and look to the miracle worker instead of just looking for a miracle.

“Our job as parents is not to fix every issue in our kids; our job as parents is to raise independent, critical thinking adults, who love the Lord.” - Chad

Chad's legacy is more than pro-football. He believes our legacy is defined by how we live our life and raise our kids to thrive. Listen to his perspective on fatherhood, family, and handling hard seasons. It will inspire you to pursue your family and pursue God whole heartedly, not matter what!
