Ep. 346 - We Confess One Baptism, with Father Peter Heers Jan 22, 2025

Show notes

Father Peter Heers is back on the show, and we are discussing the themes in the book, "On the Reception of the Heterodox Into the Orthodox Church", published by Uncut Mountain Press. There are some converts to Orthodoxy who want to be baptized into the Church, yet they are told their previous baptism was just fine, so they only need Chrismation. Is this the view of the Church Fathers? What is the exception? Is this done in a manner that is consistent with the Saints and the Patrisitc writings? Is baptism necessary for our salvation? We get into all of these questions and more.

Fr. Peter is the founder and current head of Uncut Mountain Press (founded in 2000), the founder and head of The Orthodox Ethos, and the founder and first editor of "Divine Ascent, A Journal of Orthodox Faith" (begun in 1995). Fr. Peter was also the host of the podcast, Postcards from Greece.

Ep. 345 - The Myth of Judeo-Christianity, with Bailey Mullins from Unto Ages Jan 15, 2025

Show notes

My guest this week runs the fantastic YouTube channel, Unto Ages. We are discussing a much used term that is based in an obvious contradiction: Judeo-Christianity. Why are these two words combined to mean something coherent when they aren't at all the same? It may seem trivial to some, but it's having very negative effects on geopolitics. It's also incorrect theology, so we feel it helpful to explain that as well. We get into this, Zionism, Israel, the antichrist, and more.

Ep. 344 - This Culture of Narcissism, with Joe Gillespie Jan 09, 2025

Show notes

Happy new year! I'm happy to bring you the first episode of 2025, and I'm glad to have Joe Gillespie joining me. Joe is the writer over at WriteAndLift. We are discussing a theme that runs through a few of his pieces there (I'm Not Religious, I'm Just Spiritual and Main Character Syndrome), and that is the culture of narcissism that is rampant in our modern society. Because of social media, we see it much more often than we should. Two ways it manifests are with something called "main character syndrome" and the "spiritual, not religious" folks. Joe and I dive into what this is all about and how to avoid it, if at all possible. Joe gets into the deeper spiritual goals of fitness as well!

Ep. 342 - The Protestant to Orthodox Pipeline, with Monique Mathiesen Dec 18, 2024

Show notes

This week, I've got Monique Mathiesen on the show to discuss her journey as a devout Protestant (of a few various forms) to an Orthodox Christian, wife, and mother. Monique has a similar story to some and a very unique one in its own right. We discuss the burning questions that nobody in her church upbringing could answer, the doubts she had with Orthodoxy, the lessons she's learned since her baptism, and a lot more.

Ep. 341 - Consciousness, Intuition, and Knowledge, with Stormy Waters Dec 11, 2024

Show notes

Stormy Waters is back with us this week for a follow-up to last week's discussion that goes in a bit of a different direction than the economic outlook chat from that episode. Stormy gets into where knowledge comes from, why females have a more accurate intuition than males, and which part of society and culture is able to see what is being revealed in this current age. This is a fascinating discussion, and I think it'll make you think.

CAUTION: Some curse words are used.

Ep. 340 - The Sovereign Debt Crisis is Coming, with Stormy Waters Dec 04, 2024

Show notes

My guest this week is a venture capitalist who goes by the pseudonym Stormy Waters. Stormy, along with many successful VCs, is predicting a sovereign debt crisis coming before summer of 2025. They are hedging their bets and funds on this prediction. In this episode, we discuss why this will happen, what has led to it, and what it may look like. Stormy says that a silver lining of this is that the Trump administration seems to at least care and seems to be equipped to handle such a crisis better than the "leadership" that the US has had in previous decades. Why is it going to be much worse for Europe than it will be for the US? We discuss it in this episode.

Ep. 338 - Youth of the Apocalypse, with Justin Marler Nov 20, 2024

Show notes

Justin Marler is back on the show, and we are discussing the re-release and updated version of his cult-classic book, Youth of the Apocalypse and the Last True Rebellion. Justin went from a distraught, suicidal punk rock musician in the Bay Area to being an Orthodox Christian monk. While he was living as a monk, he created the Death to the World zine which has brought a huge amount of people to the Orthodox Church. He also penned his classic book, Youth of the Apocalypse then, and many years later now, it is VERY hard to find. That was until this new updated version that is now available. We discuss the themes of the original vs. what he had to update for the year 2024 and how much sin has evolved. Visit https://www.bigwhitestar.com for more of Justin's work.
