    Cougar Tailgate

    BYU fans love a good tailgate before big games. One of the biggest Cougar fans wants you to stop by to rant and chat about the teams that wear white and blue. Lauren McClain wants to hear from you on Cougar Tailgate as she and her raucous roundtable grill up spicy takes and potentially spicy food.

    The St. Mary's Gaels are in Provo tonight and the Cougars will be looking to return the favor after a tough overtime loss in Moraga last month.     BYU basketball spent the week getting ready for two northern California opponents. After a win pulling away against Pacific on Thursday, all eyes are on the Dons. And while we're talking ancient history, Cole and Sydney look back at some of the early days of college basketball.

    Conference play started with a bang. Today on the tailgate Sydney and Cole react to overtime in Moraga and what BYU Basketball will be without Yoeli Childs for the next few weeks. They also look forward on the WCC schedule and talk what it will take for three teams to make it to the NCAA tournament. Also they end up discussing which WCC school has the best beaches and what the correct way to watch A Muppet Christmas Carol is. Because we bring the extra analysis on the show each week. Jason Brough of The University of Portland Athletics Department gives some credibility to the program and walks us through the history of the Pilots. Go Cougs.


    The Bowl Gamiest Time of the Year Dec 21, 2019

    Temperatures below freezing, Christmas Carols in the air, kids getting out of school it all means Bowl Season is upon the world of college football. Today to get ready Cole Wissinger and Sydney Carlson talk about the Cougars opponents next week the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors. Also senior safety Austin Lee shares his holiday plans in The Aloha State (they include laser focused preparations for the Hawaii Bowl). But before football takes over again, there's a basketball game to be played today and Paul Grua of the Weber State Athletics Communications Staff educates on the traditions and history of Wildcat sports.     Bringing the Rivalry to the Hardwood Dec 14, 2019

    Another week has passed in BYU Basketball with two more victories to add to the win column. Now preparations are for Utah St. If the fight song is familiar it's because football was already successful this year against the Aggies and we are hoping for a similar result in basketball today. Al Lewis longtime broadcaster for Utah State athletics is on to give a little history of the team and rivalry with BYU. We also bring a little of the arena environment to the comfort of your home with Mitch Diederich, the guy in charge of playing the music at BYU football and basketball games. Go Cougs!

Jon Sandler the play-by-play guy for the Runnin' Rebels explains how the Rebs got their nickname, how they shoot off fireworks indoors before basketball games, oh and some game analysis for today as well. Sydney Carlson a newcomer for our show sits down with Alex Barcello a newcomer to BYU Basketball this year to talk about his decision to transfer and other important topics like his favorite Christmas movie and go to pump up jam.     The Cougars and Aztecs have met a few times over the years of WAC and Mountain West conference play. Jon Schaeffer of AM1360 in San Diego comes on the show to tell us a little about San Diego State football over the years. We also have a conversation about the great future pros that have been Aztecs over the years. The college football regular season is over today, but don't worry Cougar fans.     A Week to Get Ready for the Minutemen Nov 23, 2019

    The UMass Minutemen have had a rough year so far, but did you know they are one of the oldest teams in Division 1 FBS College Football? Matt Vautour of masslive.com stops by the Cougar Tail Gate today to tell us about the team he's covered for 20 years, from their FCS Championship years to their recent struggles in Independence. BYU is traveling from Provo to Amherst today which is quite the plane ride especially considering flights to Tampa, Toledo, and Tennessee earlier this year. But that's not the farthest a team has traveled in college football. And we also celebrate our bowl selection to the Hawai'i Bowl with a look back at bowl game history and BYU. Go Cougs!


    How the Bengals Got Their Stripes Nov 16, 2019

    Idaho State University is in Pocatello, Idaho and their mascot is the Bengals. Ta da, you've learned something today. We'll get some more details about the squad coming into Provo from a former wide receiver at ISU, Madison Mangum. We'll also learn a little more about one of the longest traditions at BYU, an integral part of the gameday experience, Cosmo the Cougar. Charlie Bird was the man behind the mask for three years and during the time when the nation found out about what a great dancer Cosmo is. Cole chats with Charlie about the secrecy of Cosmo's identity and how often he has to wash the suit. It's after every game. It can smell. Get ready for the game with us. Go Cougs!
