    Cop Life

This is the show documenting the hard hitting truth about life as a street cop on patrol. What types of calls are worked during the week? What are the stresses and frustrations of being a police officer in this current climate? What are the rewarding parts of the job? How do I balance work, home, and play? Keith dives into these topics and gives a behind the scenes, or better yet, a behind the badge perspective of a Cop Life.

    Domestic Disturbance Aug 29, 2016
    Show notes

Today Keith discusses....you guessed it....a very common and potentially dangerous type of call....the domestic disturbance! This happens to be one of his least favorite calls and he will explain why. Keith will also talk about a few memorable domestic disturbance calls that he has been on in his 15 plus years working the streets.

Also, Keith discusses being back from vacation and the enjoyment he had while being away from "the job". A listener poses a question about proper behavior when getting pulled over on a traffic stop, and finally an encounter with yet another very supportive African American citizen who was doing nothing illegal but was put on the ground and handcuffed by police. He understands and agrees with the reason and is still an ardent police supporter.

    Aftermath Jul 18, 2016
    Show notes

In the wake of the mass shooting of police officers in Dallas, Texas last week, I've experienced several things in the aftermath. This weekend, I'm doing an episode on what is typically an "off-week" for the show. I wanted to record and get this out while the memories and experiences are still fresh.

This week, I talk about the overwhelming show of support from our nation and our area. I had the opportunity to work in downtown Dallas last Tuesday for the memorial service that included speeches by President Obama and former President Bush. At that event, and at various other times and places I received numerous handshakes, hugs, words of encouragement and support, and a show of solidarity from our citizens that has at times brought me close to tears. I also want to share other instances of support and encouragement that I have been informed of or have direct knowledge of from others. This week's episode is titled "Aftermath", but that is not a bad thing. I'm going to talk about the memorial as well as my experience on an overpass during the funeral procession of one of the fallen officers. I'll also highlight some experiences that other officers had including a delegation from NYPD and a group of Fort Worth, Texas officers who received a standing ovation when they entered a restaurant. Be sure to check out the website www.coplilfepodcast.com for videos and photos.

Police Under Attack Jul 10, 2016
    Show notes

At 8:58pm on Thursday, July 7, 2016 during a protest and march in downtown Dallas, Texas, 12 police officers were shot by what was believed to be more than one gunman posted at elevated positions nearby. Sadly, 5 of those officers paid the ultimate price and lost their lives.

In this week's episode, we take a look at that tragedy while the wound is still fresh. Keith will talk about the current political climate of anti-police rhetoric and where we go from here. We will tackle the question, are there some bad cops out there? How do we handle these situations when people believe an officer involved shooting to be unjustified? Also, Keith will point out some of the good news that has emerged from this horrible incident. Scores of people are showing their support for their police. An outpouring of love and backing is beginning to emerge from citizens of all races and ethnicities. Could this be the beginning of healthy dialogue and healing? We can only hope.

As we continue to pray for the full recovery of the the 7 wounded officers, This episode is dedicated to the memory of the 5 fallen officers whose lives were tragically ended on Thursday:

Officer Brent Thompson, Dallas Area Rapid Transit PD

    Officer Patrick Zamarripa, Dallas PD

    Officer Michael Krol, Dallas PD

    Sergeant Michael Smith, Dallas PD

Sr. Corporal Lorne Ahrens, Dallas PD

I would also like to give credit to Dallas Police Department Chief of Police David Brown who led his department valiantly throughout this ordeal. He deserves a lot of respect and credit for having the guts to make the decision to eliminate the suspect by use of a robot carrying explosives. He has taken some heat for that from various groups and individuals with extreme views. He has earned my respect and support for sticking to his decision and boldly claiming that he would do it again if the same situation were to arise. My hats off to you Chief Brown. Well Done Sir!

The Militarization of the Police May 10, 2016
    Show notes

(This episode is a rebroadcast from June 2015)

On June 13, 2015 an all out assault was launched against the headquarters of the Dallas Police Department. In this episode, I discuss that event and others similar to it in light of some of the recent concerns expressed about the police looking too military. Is it necessary to have an armored vehicle??? Is it necessary to have assault rifles??? These things and more are covered, along with the week in review and interesting calls gone to this past week.

Training The Rookies Apr 25, 2016
    Show notes

When a recruit graduates the academy, they come out with all kinds of head knowledge and physical training. However, there is a process for them to take what they've learned and apply it to real life and real calls on the street. Field Training Officers are the facilitators of this process. Keith has been a Field Training Officer since 2007 and has trained numerous rookie officers. What is that like? What are some of the interesting stories of those training phases? Keith shares this, as well as what a typical very first day on patrol is like when he is training. Also discussed in this episode are some interesting calls since the last show and much more.

    Cop Life: The Re-Launch! Apr 11, 2016
    Show notes

Wow! It's been awhile. But Cop Life is back!

The show went on a hiatus and I actually planned on ending it altogether. But, I really really wanted to bring it back so I’m going to fill you in on why we stopped putting out episodes and what you can expect moving forward. First of all…..I want to speak to those of you who were faithfully following the show before: There were many of you that were involved and engaged. We were emailing back and forth, you were following the social media accounts…and for all rights and purposes I feel like I abandoned you. I did change the website for awhile and posted a paragraph message stating the show was ending and blah blah blah, but you folks deserved better than that and from the bottom of my heart, I apologize. I hope you will give me another chance. To those of you that are new and just checking out the show, I want to say “thank you”! I’m glad you are here and I hope you find the show entertaining and insightful. But moving forward: What can you expect? The same insightful opinions, experiences, and stories that you had before. I intend to continue sharing the “week in review” stories as well as like the tagline of the show always said: This is the show where I talk about the good, the bad, the hilarious, the sad, the outrageous, the dangerous, and pretty much everything in between. As far as the frequency of the show, at the outset I’m thinking it may not be released every week, but more on a bi-weekly basis. But we will see. It will be on a regular schedule though, I can promise you that. Also, especially for the new listeners, I will probably be re-releasing some of the old episodes from last summer. The material is all still relevant and I think new and past listeners alike will enjoy it. If you are a former listener and don’t want to hear it again, just skip it. No problem. But don’t worry, brand new episodes are coming! You can follow the show several ways: The website is http://www.coplifepodcast.com and the email address is TheCopLifePodcast@gmail.com. Also, there is a new Facebook Page: Cop Life Podcast. Twitter: @coplifepodcast Snapchat: coplifepodcast.
