    RACHAEL SAELER Oct 22, 2021
    Show notes

Today, I speak with IFBB Pro Rachael Saeler, registered nurse who lives in Colorado. She began competing in 2015 as a bucket list item but got hooked after her first show. She won her Pro card at USAs in July of 2021. With each show she grows more confident and experiences less nerves before stepping on the stage. She looks forward to competing on the Pro stage to experience the backstage vibes and make friends.

Rachael talks about how she's had to go past motivation and rely on discipline to get her through tough parts of prep. She asks herself, "What will skipping this workout do for me?" Or she will ask herself how she would feel after eating a sweet treat that wasn't on her plan. She likes using macros during prep because of the flexibility it offers her.

In 2019, Rachael decided to prep because she in her husband were in different states and she needed something to help her through that and school. That's also when she decided to start working with her coach and take things more seriously. That's also when she realized she could turn Pro with more focused work. Every day, Rachael does something that will move her closer to her goal.

Rachael and Celeste talk about making gains in the improvement season and disconnecting from the number on the scale. Shifting focus to how your body is feeling and the strength you are gaining. She likes to take advantage of the improvement season to do fun trips with her husband that she can't really do during prep.

Rachael and I had a great conversation. I can't wait for you to hear it!

    ALLEX GRANGER Oct 15, 2021
    Show notes

Today, I speak with IFBB Pro Allex Granger, a family nurse practitioner who lives in North Carolina. She began competing in 2019 and won her Pro Card at NPC Universe in 2021. Allex shares her early struggles about gaining weight and then how her classmates treated her when she actually did gain weight. When she learned about tracking macros, it helped her understand that one day or one meal of overeating wouldn't derail her progress. When she realized it wan't all-or-nothing, she was able to find balance and comfort in her body. As a nurse practitioner, it's also helped her realize many of her patients don't understand the nutritional benefits of food. She's learned to honor her hunger cues and cravings while still staying on track through counting macros.

Allex shares how she has gained perspective of what she wants and doesn't want for her body in every season. She speaks of the importance of shifting perspective to goals outside of her physique during improvement season. In working with her coaches, she tells the importance about giving detailed check-ins to be able to analyze the data to get the best results.

Currently, Allex is dealing with fractures in her feet after two 65lb dumbbells fell on her feet! She has had to modify her training because of this but is keeping a good attitude. After winning her Pro card, Allex experienced serious post-show blues. She almost felt like she didn't even deserve her Pro card because she was so stressed. She had to shift her focus to relieve some of her stress and was able to still make her Pro debut.

Allex has such a great story. I can't wait for your to hear it!

Today, I speak with IFBB Pro Kathy Seitz, a lifetime athlete who is now a physician assistant where she works in surgery. She earned her pro car ant NPC Universe and works as an online lifestyle and posing coach. Kathy played Division III softball during college which always put exercise and competition in her forefront. Her sophomore year of college, she began to struggle with disorder eating and overexercising. After her coach approached her about it, she decided she needed to step away from softball to focus on her studies and having a healthy body. She fell in love with the weight room as she started to see how food fail her body to grow stronger.

Kathy began to use counting macros to experiment with what foods fuel her body best. Counting macros gave her the freedom and structure to really learn how different foods affected her and how she could best eat for success, mentally, physically, and emotionally. She believes it is important to understand why your are feeling certain feelings, and what they can lead to. Bodybuilding isn't the healthiest sport, so understanding different feelings can lead to peace throughout he process.

    JODIE SWEENEY Oct 01, 2021
    Show notes

In this episode, Celeste speaks with Jodie Sweeney, an IFBB Bikini Pro who set her sights on earning her pro card during the quarantine after years of dedicating her life to CrossFit. Jodie starts off the episode discussing her background in CrossFit and admits that although she wasn't ever "good" at the sport, she found herself drawn to the family feel and community aspect it brought. While she liked the overall training structure of CrossFit, Jodie feels she is able to push herself more in bodybuilding, as there is more of a demand for dedication and focus as there is only so much time an athlete has to be ready before show day. Jodie discusses how she found bodybuilding and how in the beginnings of her bodybuilding career she was able to train close to some of the well known gyms and prestigious shows in the area. She shares what it was like to train at JM Manion's gym while only being in her rookie year of competing. Jodie notes that her husband was the one who had always motivated her to try bodybuilding as he saw the potential she had to be successful in the sport. Since most of her training to her pro card was during the quarantine, Jodie explains how she prepared for that and walks listeners through each show and the lessons that she learned leading up to her pro win. Getting more personal, Celeste asks Jodie more about her family and what life was like growing up. While acknowledging Jodie's rough upbringing, Celeste also sheds light on the financial success Jodie has experienced on her own, and asks if she received any feelings of shame or guilt from her family about her success. Jodie openly discusses her family dynamic, what growing up was like and how that influenced her views on her future and the goals she set for herself. She also discusses the challenges that came along with the decision to live on her own at 19 and what she learned from those experiences. Jodie sheds light on the parallels between the discipline and growth required both from bodybuilding and her rough upbringing and shares how it's made her into the woman she is today. The two women discuss how life's challenges mold one into who the person they become and that there is so much more to someone and their story than what they share on social media. Next, Celeste asks more about Jodie's experiences with her coach and training, asking what inspired Jodie to make a coaching switch and what changed in her routine when making that switch. After hearing Jodie's story of life and bodybuilding, Celeste wraps up the episode by asking Jodie to share her best advice for novice competitors and for girls on their road to pro. Topics Covered: -Beginnings in CrossFit -Experience at JM Manion's gym in a rookie season -Improved work ethic via bodybuilding -Guilt from family around financial success -The affect a rough upbringing has on Jodie's approach to relationships -Living alone at 19 years old -Inspiration behind a coaching switch -Current approach to prep & improvement seasons CONNECT WITH CELESTE: Website: http://www.celestial.fit Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/celestial_fit/ All Links: http://www.celestial.fit/links.html CONNECT WITH JODIE: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jomarswe/?utm_medium=copy_link All links: https://linktr.ee/Jomarswe Time Stamps: [0:45] Celeste introduces Jodie. KIMBERLY GIER Sep 17, 2021
    Show notes

Today, I speak with IFBB Pro Kimberly Gier, a registered nurse, trainer, and baker! She fell in love with competing after her husband convinced her to give it a try and turned pro after 14 shows! At her first Pro show, she had to compete on a severely sprained ankle. Despite her injury she made the decision to push through and worked with her doctor to make a plan to still train and compete. Kimberly talks about how the last 18 months have been a whirlwind for her with moving, getting married, switching coaches, having a revision of her breast augmentations, getting a new job, starting her own business, her husband having an accident, all while she was competing to turn Pro. Because she switched coaches right before getting married, she followed her intuition with food on her wedding day and her mini honeymoon. Kimberly firmly believes in appreciating big moments in life because there will always be another show but not another wedding day. All throughout her competitive career, Kimberly has prioritized her relationship with her husband. Even through preps, she has managed to still go on date nights and do different activities with her husband. He doesn't compete but is very involved with fitness. ARIEL BARLEY Sep 10, 2021
    Show notes

Today, I speak with IFBB Pro Ariel Barley, who earned her Pro Card less than a year after she started competing. She just made her Pro debut and placed 3rd. Then she won her second Pro show and qualified for the Olympia! Ariel talks about the team environment backstage at Pro shows and how she tried to focus on being in a good mood and making connections with other competitors. She likes to go into shows with expectations to help her motivation, but she doesn't attach her emotions to meeting those expectations. Since bodybuilding is a judged sport, she feels it can be damaging to place too much emphasis on placings.

After prepping herself for her first show, she decided to start working with a coach to help relieve the stress of having to make all the choices for her own prep. Ariel says her ultimate goal is to make it to the Olympia stage. Ariel talks about having mental fortitude as a competitor and how the mid can influence the body. She works hard to embrace all parts of bodybuilding, knowing that the discomfort will bring results.

Focusing on her mindset and mental health has impacted her not only as a competitor, but also in her daily life. It allows her to take a step back and not jump to conclusions. It also allows her to deal with the stress of other people's expectations in a health way.

Ariel shares how important mindset work is and shares so any great tips for competitors to use. Don't miss this episode!

Topics covered include: -competing as a new Pro -expectations going into Pro debut -transitioning to working with a coach -setting goals as a Pro -facing different challenges of competing -normalizing bodies during improvement season -mindset work -loving to read -doing your best if you're going to do something -dealing with pressure -handling feedback -analyzing things on a deeper level
