Deck List: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/R3QzcI9Kh0ug8w4HYhsdFw
I’ve always wanted to build a group hug deck. A buddy of mine and his son who live in the same apartment complex wanted to do a $100 deck challenge, so I came up with this brew.
What is a group hug deck - “Group Hug is a Commander deck archetype known for providing resources to opposing players, sometimes in exchange for political favors, for the purpose of using those resources or favors to eventually win the game.” - EDH Rec
1. Lenny told me it was a control deck in disguise.
The commander - Kynaios and Tiro of Meletis
1. These dudes seem cool because I like drawing an extra card and laying an extra land. It’s not extra threatening because it’s at the end of my turn and I feel like ppl are disincentivized to kill it because they’re getting an extra land drop or card draw

Disclaimer: Prepare yourself. You might not be ready for these deck ideas. They are strong and mostly probably original. They will melt the rest of your play group (literally) if you bring them to EDH night. EDH night is def going to need water… to put out the fires left in the seats where you opponents used to be sitting.

Disclaimer: There is no right or wrong here. Everyone has feelings, and all feelings are valid. This is an attempt to encourage discussion.
It seems like with each new set over the past few years green tends to get more and more powerful cards. I’ve heard many players argue maybe even too many good cards.
1. Let’s talk about Green in general here, for just a few minutes
What Green Does Well
1. Ramp - playing against green can be hard due to other players ramping. You can feel left hopelessly behind when your opponent has twenty lands and you have a mere five.
  1. Azusa Lost But Seeking
  2. Dryad of the Elysian Groove
  3. Cultivate
  4. Farseek
  5. Mana Dorks
  6. Carpet of Flowers
  7. Nyxbloom Ancient
  8. Gaea’s Cradle
  9. Growing Rites of Itlmoc

How to Combat what Green ramp

This is kinda tough, because MLD is frowned upon in Commander (I don’t particularly like playing against it)
Confounding Conundrum is a step in the right direction I think
Some of these cards are also unfun to play against :(
1. Punish lands
  1. Ankh of Mishra
  2. Zo-zu the Punisher
  3. Tunnel Ignus
  4. Anathemancer
  5. Price of Progress
  6. Root Maze
  7. Treacherous Terrain
2. Hinder Search
  1. Aven Mindcensor
  2. Stranglehold
  3. Ashiok Dream Render
  4. Opposition Agent
3. Destroy MOST lands
  1. Keldon Firebombers
  2. Natural Balance

Graveyard Recursion

Eternal Witness
Noxious Revival
Reclaim
Bala Ged Recovery

Removal

Force of Vigor
Beast WIthin
Return to Nature

Effective and Aggressivly Costed Creatures

Temur Sabertooth
Craterhoof Behemoth
Rampaging Baloths
Scute Swarm
Scavaging Ooze

Other Just Good Cards

Sylvan Library
Doubling Season
The Great Henge
Concordant Crossroads
Survival of the Fittest
Seedborn Muse
Reclamation Sage
Guardian Project
Veil of Summer
The Great Henge

Ep 133 Community Spotlight:

@NH118 - 0:40
@MothershipGames - 7:06
@scryfall - 7:54
@edhrec - 7:54

Main Topic - Lesser Used Lands

Disclaimer:

We did a scryfall search for colorless lands, and sorted by EDHRec relevancy descending, so this should get us the least used lands. We also, manually excluded lands that can tap for a color of mana.

Scryfall Search: https://scryfall.com/search?as=grid&dir=desc&order=edhrec&page=2&q=type%3Aland+commander%3Ac+%28-is%3Aarenaid+-is%3Amtgoid+-is%3Aonline%29&unique=cards

For contrast, the most used:

A little over a million decks 1018273
Reliquary Tower (278936 - 27%)
Rogue’s Passage (166203 - 16%)
Ancient Tomb (132828 - 13%)
1. Buried Ruin (62946 - 6%)
1. If Ancient Tomb is cheating, and we want lands that do SOMETHING besides tap for mana, 3rd place would be:

The Lands

Isolated Watchtower (in 4551 decks)
Endless Sands (5411)
Mirrorpool (8597)
Mutavault (9612)
Swarmyard (9629) - This one is a little niche
Drownyard Temple (9751)
Witch’s Clinic (9963)
Detection Tower (10178)
Terrain Generator (10630)
Cryptic Caves (11324)

Summary - What do you think about these lands? Do you run any of these? Are there any we missed that you think are good? Let us know!

Main Topic - Cards we want

Disclaimer: These are cards that Ryan and I personally want, we’re not saying these are god-tier cards for EDH.

Zack and I are lucky enough to have been playing for a long time, and have gotten cards before they got very expensive!
Not discussing Promos
Prices were taken from scryfall.

The other interesting bit is the cards we are listing are based on our playstyles, personal preferences, and collections, which are both fairly deep, probably more so than the average player.
