In this episode I speak with Cathy Mahon from Life Lesson with Horses. Cathy has a wonderful story of her life so far and how her many years in teaching have brought her to horses and assisting and supporting people in life lessons as a coach, using her herd to help people find their way in life and so much more. Cathy has an incredible list of skills in her toolbox, one of my favourites is the Centred Riding created by Sally Swift. She has also done some Alexander Technique, liberty horsemanship, dressage and women’s empowerment. She has attended more horsemanship clinics than I could possibly mention. Now Cathy uses all of her skill that she has acquired through her years of learning and education, to her passion, which is, being a teacher and allowing you to live the life of your dreams. In this episode I speak with Jini Patel and boy oh boy she is next level of consciousness in my opinion. As you heard in the snippet, she waits until all the things that we do with horses, are the horses idea! I know that when someone is talking, and I start to fidget and feel uncomfortable, that my buttons are getting pushed to a place I have been resisting to go. This happened during this interview. Jini pushed my buttons by the end of this podcast, and I mean that in the best way possible. The depth she has gone to with her horses made me so uncomfortable, simply because, I’m not ready to go there, yet! I will get there, I’m just not there yet. There is so much surrender that is needed so I’ll be taking it one step at a time. This is a long one, as you have probably come to expect from this podcast by now. In this episode I speak with Adele Shaw from The Willing Equine. Adele is a horse trainer who works in a completely holistic way with horses. She teaches her clients that a horse needs a good environment, a good diet, a body that feels good and a human that is aware of their body language before even getting to how to train a horse. All this before even getting into the saddle. Ahhh imagine if all horses were afforded the same respect? This is an interesting conversation with a refreshing and skilled horsewoman. In every podcast I learn a lot for my own training and how to go about things and this is yet another moment where I am given information to be able to take my horses and to the next level. In this episode I speak with Dr Anne Bondi, not only has she set up the saddle research trust but she also has had a really interesting life and career with horses. And in this episode we cover it all. If you’ve ever wondered about saddle fitting and what the research is and how far we have come and why it is so hard to find scientific proof of some things we may feel intuitively, then Anne may very well answer that for you today. Anne’s trust is working hard to have a voice for horses and she also strongly believes we should not blame the rider all the time when the saddle moves or we have an unbalanced horse. Nor should we blame the saddle when things don’t go right. They want to educate people of the intimate relationship of the horse the rider and the saddle and how to figure out what the problem really is. They are working to help people collaborate to bring the best information possible to each other in the research field so that we as horse owners and riders as well as obvious professionals in the field, can get the best evidence based information. Emma has been at the forefront of my mind for an interview since I heard her story through another podcast so I was thrilled when she said “yes let’s do it tomorrow” at EQUITANA when I asked her for an interview. Some people might take pity on people who are not fully able bodied, or have been through the kind of trauma Emma has. I personally have a reverence for them. Especially Emma, she is strong and capable and sits with intention and will not be seen anything other than an incredible athlete in her own right, because listeners, that’s exactly what she is. In this episode we wrap up the wonderful EQUITANA Australia VIP Super Ticket Holder events with Pedro Torres and Emma Booth. I have introduced Pedro in the 1stepisode of this series, so go back and have a listen to more about this Portuguese Working Equitation and Dressage star. Emma Booth is Australia and she is our international representative para equestrian. Emma is one person I’ve wanted to interview for a long time and I was lucky enough to do a full interview one on one with her at EQUITANA, it happened right before we recorded this VIP event. Emma’s solo interview will be up next week so tune in for that one. Emma rode in Pedro’s Masterclass at EQUITANA, it was so beautiful to watch. Pedro had a deep respect for Emma’s ability to ride and he also was as grateful as Emma was for the opportunity. So Emma was thrilled to be coached by Pedro and Pedro was thrilled to be able to watch Emma ride so close up in a Masterclass. You can hear the deep respect they have for each other. While at EQUITANA I also came across the team from Dolly’s dream. Following the tragic death of Northern Territory teenager Amy “Dolly” Everett on January 3, 2018, Tick and Kate Everett, Dolly’s parents, decided to establish Dolly’s Dream to create positive change and as a lasting legacy to their daughter, Amy. Who committed suicide after being bullied both in person and on the internet. I wanted to support the charity and buy a shirt to wear at EQUITANA, they had sold out of my size, so a Woman washed hers and brought it back for me the next day to wear to the VIP event. In this week’s episode I’m thrilled to bring you day 3 of the EQUITANA Australia VIP super ticket holder sessions where I was the MC for the event. In this episode you will hear from Vicki Wilson from New Zealand, Vicki competes at the highest level of show jumping, she starts horses and also does Equine Therapy, by that I mean body work for horses. In my opinion Vicki is changing the way people all over the world, see horses with what they consider to be bad behaviour. In 2017, Vicki Wilson was the first New Zealander to win the coveted World Championship colt starting competition at the Road to the Horse in the USA. Vicki named her horse Kentucky and brought him home. Their journey is an inspiring story of a friendship which will take them together into the future, this story you can read on Vicki’s website. Vicki went on to win the Road to the Horse 2018, making her the back-to-back World Champion of Colt Starting. Vicki has a load of firsts at The Road to the Horse, but the one I personally love the most, is that she is the first person to ever use body work on their colt. That’s the change she is making to the world of horse people, she shows them how you can take a difficult horse to being quiet and responsive by understanding them and alleviating any pain they are feeling. On this panel there is also Dave Manchon from The Rooftop Express Show, David has an incredibly entertaining show that he wows audiences with all over Australia, I saw him and his team a few years ago at the local show and it was lots of fun, his show at EQUITANA is next level entertainment, if you ever get a chance to see them please do yourself a favour and get there. In his spare time he is a professional horse trainer with his business flex horse training. With David on this panel is his little sidekick Bella Southern who is 9 years old and also his long-time mate and also a part of his show Anthony Cootes. These guys are a lot of fun but don’t be fooled, they are very experienced horse people in their own right and have a lot to give to those around them. This is another great day and the thanks has to go to EQUITANA Australia for putting on a great event and allowing me to be a part of it.
