Battle in the Big 10, Trouble at ND, UNC & MSU Aug 20, 2020
    Show notes

Your favorite trio, Dan Wetzel, Pete Thamel and SI’s Pat Forde return with more ridiculous banter. The Big 10 and Kevin Warren finally released a statement explaining their reason to postpone the football season and it did little to quell the uproar from players, fans and coaches alike. Is it time to put the fall Big 10 season to bed?

As parents of players threaten to protest in Indianapolis, Michigan State, UNC, NC State and Notre Dame opted for online schooling before the semester began due to outbreaks on campus. Does this move help football’s chances by creating an impromptu bubble? When will administrators come out and say football players aren’t amateurs?

Finally, the SEC’s 10-game conference schedule release raised the question should leagues make that move permanent? The guys also host a beer-centric people’s court to cap the show.

    Show notes

Dan Wetzel, Pete Thamel and SI’s Pat Forde have the latest news as college campuses and football camps continue to open this week. How much pressure has letters from parents and petitions from players put on the Big 10’s decision to shut down?

A new COVID-19 test used by the NBA, among others, has surfaced and will give colleges an affordable and quick way to test students. How big of an impact will the new FDA approved tests have on the 2020 season?

And in the SEC, a certain group of coaches was not very pleased when the 2020 schedule was released. Do they actually have a case?

    Show notes

We have never seen a day like Tuesday in the 150 wild years of college football. After days of speculation, the Big 10 decided to officially close shop on the college football season until the spring and the Pac-12 soon followed. Yet the Big 12, which many consider the linchpin for the ACC & SEC, announced hours later they are going to press on, giving fans a glimmer of hope.

Dan Wetzel, Pete Thamel and SI’s Pat Forde react to a truly unprecedented day. What is the next step for the SEC, ACC, and Big 12? Does Nebraska actually have a shot at an independent schedule? And will we see a stream of players transfer from the Big 10 and Pac-12? We also have the scoop on the wacky Urban Meyer video that surfaced yesterday...so stick around until the end.

Big 10 set to cancel their fall season, will others follow? Aug 10, 2020
    Show notes

This past weekend was grim, to say the least. On Saturday, the conference dominoes began to fall when the MAC suspended their football season. On Sunday, reports began to surface that the Big 10 would also cancel their fall season. Will the SEC, ACC, and Big 12 fall in line? Dan Wetzel, Pete Thamel and SI's Pat Forde also ask can we push the season to the spring and when will the players get concrete answers?

Harbaugh snitches on OSU, key dates for season, invade Nebraska Aug 06, 2020
    Show notes

The NCAA snitch line. Michigan vs Ohio State coach fights. These are the times we live for here at the Yahoo Sports College Podcast. Dan Wetzel and Pete Thamel tell the tale of Jim Harbaugh snitching on Ohio State and Ryan Day’s fiery response during this week’s Big 10 coaches call. We also have plenty of other crazy stories from the rivalry including one involving the Best Damn Punk Band in the Land, The Dead Schembechlers……

As the season draws near, conferences have released schedules giving hope to teams and fans alike. But behind closed doors, administrators have little optimism for a full season. What is the key date for this season to go off as scheduled? Could one school break away from a conference and play an independent schedule?

Pac-12 boycott, Big 12 schedule plans, NCAA vs the Power 5 Aug 04, 2020
    Show notes

The news just kept coming over the weekend and Dan Wetzel and Pete Thamel are here to break it all down. In the Pac-12, players released a list of demands ranging from health and safety, racial equality and a revenue split. Will this holdout be a true agent of change?

SI’s Pat Forde may be absent from the podcast today but he was plenty busy over the weekend. He and his teammates broke a story suggesting the Power 5 could split with the NCAA over fall championships in 2020. Just how close are we to a major schism and would it be the right move for the Power 5 not only in 2020 but beyond.

And in SEC country, the state of Mississippi is deciding on a new flag and one official submission caught out eye. How can we get Elijah Moore officially on the flag?

SEC & ACC plans are set, exodus to NFL begins Jul 30, 2020
    Show notes

Late Wednesday, the ACC released an 11-game schedule that included one non-conference matchup after catching wind the SEC was going with a conference-only model. The SEC, unfazed by the grandstanding, pushed forward and announced their 10-game conference-only plan on Thursday (after this podcast was recorded). Dan Wetzel, Pete Thamel, and SI’s Pat Forde parse through the breaking news. Will Notre Dame love their new digs or will they bounce back to independence after this season?

Staying in the ACC, Virginia Tech standout and projected first-round talent Caleb Farley opted to try his luck in the NFL. Just how many players will follow his lead?

Finally, the guys have an update on the sex-crazed monkeys taking over in Thailand as well as an animal uprising closer to home.

The cautious tale of Lou Williams & the Marlins, Chicken Wars Update Jul 27, 2020
    Show notes

Two stories from the professional sports ranks over the weekend showcased the many issues college football will face trying to start its season. The MLB announced on Monday it is canceling two series following an outbreak among the Miami Marlins. Does a conference-only schedule allow leagues the much-needed flexibility to combat this issue?

And in the NBA, Clippers star Lou Williams was caught at a strip club in Atlanta during an excused absence for a funeral. Could universities even afford to keep their teams in a bubble? Is it college football's only hope at this point?

Finally, Grub Hub announced their top-ordered food items during the lockdown and we are happy to report that the chicken wars are alive and well…

Pac-12 has its plan, NIL circus in DC, Drive-through strip clubs Jul 23, 2020
    Show notes

The Pac-12 announced on Thursday they are moving to a 10-game conference schedule with camp kicking off next month. Dan Wetzel, Pete Thamel and SI’s Pat Forde react to the Conference of Champions' decision to push on.

NCAA President Mark Emmert along with a few college administrators joined a Senate committee Wednesday to talk through the latest NIL proposal and the event quickly turned into a clown show. The guys have the funniest clips from the proceedings.

Last but not least, we have an update on the Houston strip club scene as one owner has turned to a drive-through format. Meanwhile in Australia, the world’s oldest wombat has joined… Tinder?

Recruiting Roundup, how do we have a season this fall? Jul 21, 2020
    Show notes

Dan Wetzel, Pete Thamel and Pat Forde recap the NCAA’s COVID-19 guidelines and ask what exactly needs to happen if we are going to have some semblance of a season this fall. Does anything from the NBA, MLS, MLB and NFL give us hope?

The guys then whip around the country for a little recruiting roundup. California pushed their high school season to the spring. How does that affect the college calendar? Elsewhere, Ohio State continues their red-hot streak after flipping Jordan Hancock from Clemson. Texas lost out on two highly regarded legacies to Alabama. And in Louisiana, a sophomore by the name of Arch Manning was featured by Rivals.com…
