Tristan Thompson joins Shannon Sharpe for a conversation about his NBA career, lifelong friendships, and the championship run that changed Cleveland sports forever.
The episode begins with Tristan discussing his close relationships with fellow Canadians Drake, The Weeknd, and PartyNextDoor before reflecting on the Cavaliers' recent reunion celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the historic 2016 NBA Championship. He shares behind-the-scenes stories from the team's golf trip overseas with LeBron James, Kevin Love, JR Smith, Channing Frye, Richard Jefferson, Matthew Dellavedova, and other former teammates, explaining why their brotherhood has remained strong long after retirement.
Tristan opens up about the unforgettable bond formed during Cleveland's legendary comeback from a 3-1 deficit against the 73-win Golden State Warriors, revealing how life experiences off the court—including family tragedies and personal struggles—created relationships that went far beyond basketball. He also reflects on emotional moments with Kevin Love following the loss of Love's father and explains why supporting teammates through life's hardest moments mattered more than anything that happened on the court.
The conversation shifts to basketball as Tristan debates where the 2016 Cavaliers rank among the greatest championship teams in NBA history, compares them to the Kevin Durant-era Warriors, and shares why he believes LeBron James and Kyrie Irving made Cleveland nearly unstoppable. He also revisits the 2015 NBA Finals, explaining how injuries to Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love changed the series and why he believes the Cavaliers would have won a championship if the roster had stayed healthy.
Tristan reflects on entering the NBA alongside Kyrie Irving, his early belief that LeBron James would eventually return to Cleveland, and what it was like watching that vision become reality. He details the sacrifices required after LeBron and Kevin Love arrived, including accepting a reduced offensive role, embracing defense and rebounding, and putting winning ahead of individual accolades.
He also shares the behind-the-scenes story of his contract negotiations with the Cavaliers, the importance of securing his second NBA contract, and how achieving financial security allowed him to fulfill promises made to his late mother and provide for his family.
Throughout the episode, Tristan offers an honest look at leadership, sacrifice, championship culture, and what it truly takes to build a lasting legacy in the NBA while reflecting on unforgettable moments with LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Steve Kerr, Rich Paul, and the Cavaliers team that delivered Cleveland its first NBA championship in more than 50 years.
