Ryan Garcia joins Club Shay Shay for an explosive conversation about boxing, his upcoming fight with Conor Benn, Devin Haney, Gervonta “Tank” Davis, Terence Crawford, Canelo Alvarez, Floyd Mayweather, and the future of the sport. Garcia addresses the criticism that he is “not a real Mexican,” why he never learned Spanish growing up, and his relationship with Oscar De La Hoya. He also discusses his future with Golden Boy and Zuffa before breaking down why a Devin Haney rematch has not happened and revisiting the controversy surrounding his positive test.
Ryan opens up about missing weight for the Gervonta “Tank” Davis fight and why he wants another shot at Tank at 147 pounds. He also gives his thoughts on Tank’s inactivity, Devin Haney’s style, and why he believes Devin Haney was a more difficult opponent than Tank. The conversation turns to Floyd Mayweather, as Garcia explains what made Floyd one of boxing’s greatest fighters while criticizing the way some current fighters try to imitate his career. Ryan also names Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, Sugar Ray Robinson, and Floyd Mayweather as his boxing Mount Rushmore and discusses his dream matchup with Manny Pacquiao.
Garcia then talks about his issues with Terence Crawford. He also gives his opinion on Canelo Alvarez and says he believes a fast, young fighter like Jaron “Boots” Ennis could give Canelo problems. Ryan lays out his ambitious plans for boxing, including fights with Teofimo Lopez, Devin Haney, and potentially Crawford. Ryan gets brutally honest about his upcoming fight with Conor Benn, promising a spectacular performance. He also reveals whether he would fight Canelo Alvarez and discusses his complicated relationship with Floyd Mayweather.
Garcia opens up about the lessons he learned from Mike Tyson and how he approaches money, investments, taxes, cars, clothes, and gambling. He also reflects on his partying lifestyle, drinking before the Devin Haney fight. Ryan discusses stepping away from boxing, getting his mind right, rebuilding his life, therapy, anxiety, spirituality, and learning to treat his body like a temple. He explains how returning to the gym helped transform his body, mindset, and relationship with boxing.
Garcia also revisits his loss to Rolly Romero. He breaks down the mental side of boxing, his training philosophy, his favorite knockouts, the hardest punch he has taken, and his experiences against Luke Campbell and Tank Davis.
Ryan talks about Jake Paul, revealing that he turned down a $20 million offer to fight him because he chose a world-title opportunity against Mario Barrios. He also gives his thoughts on Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder, Tyson Fury, Logan Paul, and Adrien Broner. Finally, Garcia discusses the current state of boxing, calling on Tank, Devin Haney, Shakur Stevenson, and other top fighters to compete against each other. He also weighs in on Claressa Shields, women’s boxing, the WNBA, A’ja Wilson, Caitlin Clark, and Candace Parker.
