Is the Old Testament Law for Christians Today? Oct 29, 2024

Show notes

You are not above it and you hate to see it laid down. Some of you follow it to the letter, while others follow its spirit. It's got a long arm even if you take it into your own hands. The Martial version of it is bad while Murphy's version is worse. You can fight it but as the 1966 Crickets remind us, it's gonna win. What is it? Well just listen to the episode!

It is with profound lamentation and grievous despondency that I must impart unto thee these melancholy tidings: This is verily the final volume of the Torah. Wail and gnash thine teeth in dolorous affliction, for the sacred writ of Moses hath reached its terminus (save, perchance, Psalm 90). Yet lo, these venerable words shall reappear in fragmentary form within the New Testament, yea, even inscribed in letters of crimson. Attend thou most earnestly, for if thou comprehendest them now, thou shalt apprehend the Testament of New with far greater sagacity. Fare thee well, O Torah. May thy dulcet words return anon to our contemplation and study.

The Canon: How'd We Get the 66 Books of the Bible? Sep 10, 2024

Show notes

It's about to get canonical up in hurrrrr. If you've ever wondered how the 66 books of the Bible were chosen… if you're scratching your head about why the Apocrypha isn't embraced by Protestants… if you're asking what an Apocrypha even is and if that could explain the rash on your shoulder...you're in the right place. Also, probably get that rash looked at. Just sayin.

In last week’s episode, we talked about how God used humans to write out His words. He used people from various cultures, continents, stages of life, and jobs, over the course of about 1,500 years! But how can we know that we have the right books in our Bible?

Today, we’re looking at the biblical canon. This is the collection of 66 books that make up the Old and New Testaments.

We’ve got more extensive show notes on our website JimmyandKelly.com.
