Pre-Order Your Copy of Minimalist Moms: Living & Parenting with Simplicity

    -----------------------------

Today begins a four week series called Minimalist Living. You’ll hear from minimalists living on boats, in vans, traveling the world, and, on today’s episode, New York City! Author, Elizabeth Passarella, joined me to discuss parenting in the city, what has been trickier (and easier) while living in smaller spaces and more... I loved hearing how minimalism has influenced life in these areas and my hope is that it encourages you in your own minimalist pursuits (or maybe even prompts you to change up your lifestyle- you never know)!

EP158: There's No Such Thing as Bad Weather with Linda McGurk Feb 09, 2021
    Show notes

Pre-Order Your Copy of Minimalist Moms: Living & Parenting with Simplicity

    -----------------------------

Have you heard of the line, “There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes”? In a more straightforward manner it means: go outside. I love and agree with this notion as I try to get myself outside even when temperatures dip under freezing or quickly make me break a sweat due to humidity (which I prefer less than cold). Anyways, a couple of years ago, I stumbled upon the book, There’s No Such Thing as Bad Weather: A Scandinavian Mom’s Secrets for Raising Healthy, Resilient, and Confident Kids. It changed my perspective when it came to getting my kids outside. I felt freer, and more accepting of dirt and mud. All of that to say, it’s quite cold in Ohio right now and I was thinking about how important it still is for children to get outside (even for just 15 minutes here and there) so I reached out to author, Linda McGurk to see if she’d join me to share about how we can encourage our children outside each day, the differences in American and Scandinavian parenting, how to manage weather extremes and much more...

    -----------------------------

As a society, we're obsessed with upgrading. Whether it's the latest smart phone, a new car, furniture, or home. We must 'keep up with the Jones' (and also, we just really like new and shiny things). As someone pursuing a minimalist lifestyle, it can be tough to hold back. That's why I asked fellow minimalist, Carleen Armstead (and special guest appearance from her husband) to discuss this very thing.

EP152: Simplifying Our Approach to Longevity with Marta Zaraska Dec 29, 2020
    Show notes

Today I bring you my conversation with author and journalist, Marta Zaraska. We spoke about longevity and how we can actually apply our minimalist mindset when it comes to pursuing a long, healthy life. It’s Marta’s belief that the very same efforts that rejuvenate our bodies and help us live long also help us grow as people: nurturing relationships, developing better mental habits, becoming kinder, more empathic, more involved in the community. We become so fixated on miracle diets, miracle foods, miracle supplements etc. We skip gluten and invest in exercise gadgets. We swallow vitamins. We obsess about BMI. While healthy nutrition and physical activity are indeed important for health, there are things we all too often sacrifice that have an outsize impact on our centenarian potential. Friendships. Purpose in life. Empathy. Kindness. Volunteering. Science shows that these 'soft' health drivers are often more powerful than diet and exercise. Throughout the episode, we'll dive into more of what Marta has researched in her book.

EP150: What Are You Saying "Yes" To? with Jennifer Burnham Dec 15, 2020
    Show notes

Today I bring you my conversation with simplicity coach, Jennifer Burnham. This is Jennifer's second time on the podcast (her first appearance was back on episode eighty-two). Jennifer is a believer in that organizing isn't complicated, time is sacred, and money is a renewable resource. Her work is dedicated to listening to the story your stuff is telling and then helps you rewrite it one room at a time. In this conversation, we'll discuss whether our possessions are the chain or the anchor in life, how to plan our way out of 'busy-ness' and how to create more white space in our schedules.
