    Show notes

We're in the final quarter of the year and before we know it, 2024 will be here.

While we still have over 2 months before the new year, the time to start planning next years' goals is right now!

Waiting until the last minute to plan your goals opens the door for you to set unrealistic expectations, fail to properly plan your strategies or worse – avoid goal setting altogether!

I always set my new year goals in October, and it gives me enough time to reflect, assess and set goals that matter.

In this episode, I'm sharing why you need to start planning your new year goals ahead of time and I'm walking you through my goal setting strategy! Here's to setting goals that inspire us!

Here's a glance at this episode:

    • [02:00] Not a fan of setting goals? Raya explains how setting goals puts you in a position to achieve things you never thought possible.

    • [09:27] Raya shares the 3 main reasons why you shouldn't wait to start planning your new year goals.

    • [15:15] Not sure how to effectively plan your goals? Raya walks through her goal-setting strategy with a few different examples.

9 Frugal Habits to Implement Now Sep 25, 2023
    Show notes

Money management is one of the most important skills a person (especially a woman) can have, but it's often never learned and properly utilized.

It's not easy to live a life of frugality – to assess needs versus wants and avoid spending money on things that you don't need.

However, it's mandatory if you want to live a life of financial security and freedom.

If you aren't a frugal person by nature, don't worry! I wasn't either in the beginning.

But, if I can change my ways, anyone can!

In this episode, I'm sharing 9 frugal habits that anyone can start implementing now to work towards proper money management.

Here's a glance at this episode:

    • [01:38] In this episode, I'm answering a City Girl Solutions question about the advice I would give to the version of myself 10 years ago.

    • [05:01] Make it a habit of "paying yourself first". Meaning, when money comes in, you save something before you do any spending.

    • [07:41] When you keep tabs on your spending, you can make changes real-time to help you save money or get back on track.

    • [13:25] Planning ahead for things you know are coming (or what to come) can be a great way to stick to your budget and avoid overspending.

Easy Ways to Live Within Your Means Sep 18, 2023
    Show notes

A common trend in the personal finance community is the notion of living below your means.

Meaning, you're able to live on less than what you make.

Most successful savers and financially successful people in general have mastered the living within your means phenomena.

In fact, they have mastered it so well that they actually live below their means!

As for the rest of us, we must crawl before we can walk.

Before we can master living within or under our means, we need to know how to stop living above our means.

In this episode, I'm sharing some simple ways you can live within your means and still enjoy a life you love.

Be prepared to take some mental notes and feel free to start implementing immediately!

Here's a glance at this episode:

    • [03:05] Don't know where your money is going? I walk you through the steps to take to pinpoint what money is coming in and going out.

    • [06:09] Making more money can help ensure you are living within (or under) your means. I share a few ideas to bring in more money.

    • [09:57] Your credit card company can reduce your credit card limit at any time. Relying on credit cards is a habit you don't want to form.

    • [14:21] I share a list of things you can do to set your future self up for financial success. Start with one and work your way through the list!

    35 Money Lessons I Learned by 35 Sep 11, 2023
    Show notes

By the time you're hearing this episode, I'm a newly aged 35-year-old woman.

My year from 34 to 35 has been one of tremendous growth.

Not from a business or material standpoint, but from an internal one.

It's been a year of reflection, trusting the unknown, and having faith.

It was a tough year personally and I was forced to do things I didn't plan to.

I was forced to slow down when I didn't want to. I was forced to be content, which is something I struggled with.

The growth I've experienced in the past year has had a huge impact on the money lessons I've accumulated over my 35 years of life.

In this episode, I'm sharing some of the biggest money lessons I learned by 35. I have a feeling the lessons will keep coming!

Here's a glance at this episode:

    • [02:55] On this City Girl Solutions' segment, I'm sharing whether to set up bill-pay through your bank or automatic payments through each company.

    • [07:43] Money isn't what brings happiness, but it can allow you to do and purchase the things that do bring you overall happiness.

    • [12:15] Contributing to a 401k plan at age 21 was the best thing I did for my finances. I didn't do a lot of things right back then, but I did that right!

    • [17:09] Love to travel? It's okay to visit the same place multiple times, especially if that place brings you joy.

    • [21:05] I no longer believe starting a business is for everyone. I think personal wants and characteristics may warrant working for someone else.

How to Be Happy with Frugal Living with Vee Frugal Fox Sep 04, 2023
    Show notes

    I think there's a common misconception that if you're frugal, you're cheap.

You don't spend money on things you enjoy and you never leave the house. NOT TRUE!

Living a frugal life means you're intentional with your money decisions and you tend to only spend on things that matter or spark joy.

Let's release the stigma around frugality and work towards leading a more financially-intentional life.

One person who seems to do this well is Vee Weir from Vee Frugal Fox and Founder of Weir Digital Marketing!

In this episode, Vee is sharing her financial freedom journey, how she happily leads a frugal life and all the roadblocks along the way.

Here's a glance at this episode:

    • [03:40] Vee shares her story working towards financial freedom and how Dave Ramsey played a role in her journey.

    • [10:25] Vee paid off over $50,000 in debt in about a year. She breaks down some of the lessons learned during that year.

    • [21:08] Frugality is akin to values-based spending and Vee talks about how the two ways of being are connected.

    • [33:45] Budgeting can be as simple or as complicated as you make it. Vee opens up about meeting budgeting wherever you're at.

    • [43:00] Vee shares how her money conversations changed throughout her two marriages.

Being uncomfortable is the first step to change…and change is scary.

Fear of the unknown can creep in and make you take a step back into your zone of comfort.

But, you can't expect different results when you're doing the same things you've always done.

In this episode, I'm sharing how you can get comfortable with being uncomfortable.

    Show notes

You've taken the steps to actually get your budget created, but now that you have, you realize that it just isn't working.

Don't give up! The truth is budgeting is not one-size-fits all.

Budgeting is all about trial and error. You're not always going to be perfect with your budget.

    I mean…I'm a budget coach, and I don't always get it right!

That means you have permission to let your budget be a work in progress.

However, there may be certain roadblocks that are holding your budget back from success.

In this episode, I'm sharing a few common big signs your budget isn't working and what you can do next.

Once you know the signs, you can actively work to fix them!

Here's a glance at this episode:

    • [02:20] Before you can change anything about your money situation, you need a budget to show you what your financials actually look like.

    • [06:10] Adding a Miscellaneous category to your budget or having a savings account for unexpected expense can help keep your budget in line when things pop up.

    • [09:23] Once you see where your money is going on a regular basis, you can spend differently to break free of living paycheck to paycheck.

    • [14:47] Unlink your credit card from any app or website so you won't be tempted to spend on impulse.
