Over the years of budgeting and managing my money, I've come across a few key indicators of growth in my situation.

Now, I make it a point to monitor those indicators on a regular basis.

That information allows me to know if I should keep doing what I'm doing or switch things up.

2024 Mid-Year Personal and Business Goals Check In Jul 08, 2024
    Show notes

There was a point in my life where I would set big goals and not check-in on them.

I would keep them top of mind but only assess my progress once the goal time frame (typically one year) ended. Not anymore!

Now, I make it a point to assess my goal progress along the way.

This helps me course correct, make changes, or keep doing what's working!

At the end of 2023, I shared my personal and business goals for 2024.

Now that we're over the halfway mark of 2024, I want to share my progress! In this episode, I'm doing a mid-year personal and business goals check in!

I'm sharing my goal progress with you, in the hopes that you're encouraged to do your own progress check.

Here's a glance at this episode:

    • [02:07] Raya shares her progress on some health and diet related goals she set for 2024, along with a recipe!
    • [05:25] Another goal for Raya is to max out her Roth IRA. She shares that she isn't on track with this goal as of now, but has confidence it will be achieved.
    • [10:38] Another off-track goal is taking an international trip. While planning has started, it likely won't be a trip that happens in 2024.
    • [13:40] Raya shares some events happening in the CGS community that can help reach the goal of 7500 Facebook Group members.
    • [16:25] While the business is not hitting a 50% increase in revenue, it is averaging 20%, which is still promising.

How to Use Credit Cards to Fund Your Vacations Jun 17, 2024
    Show notes

Have you heard of the term "travel hacking"?

    If not, you're not alone.

I was introduced to the concept of travel hacking over two years ago by a Travel Rewards Coach who came on the podcast.

I was mesmerized – not only because I love to travel but because there's a way to do it for free, essentially!

While I won't be breaking down travel-hacking in detail, in this episode, I'm sharing how to use credit cards to fund your travel, almost like a beginner's way to travel hack!

Once you have the starting point, you can always work your way up to more travel-hacking strategies!

Here's a glance at this episode:

    • [02:00] Use points from travel cards to book your travel. This is the easiest way to use credit cards to fund your vacations.
    • [05:15] Some companies have sales on points. Use this as an opportunity to stock up on points without spending money on other things.
    • [09:33] Use a credit card during your travel. Eventually, you'll work your way up to more and more points to use for future travel.
    • [13:00] Looking for your first travel card? Google "the best travel credit cards" and compare your options.
    • [14:59] DO NOT CARRY A BALANCE. Travel hacking only works when you pay your credit card balance in full each month.

5 Ways to Take Your Savings Strategy Up a Notch Jun 10, 2024
    Show notes

While saving money just to save is better than not saving any money at all, you could be missing out on opportunities to maximize your savings efforts.

When it comes to saving money, you'll want to implement a strategy that sets you up for success.

You may already have that strategy, or it may need to be tweaked.

In this episode, I'm sharing 5 ways you can take your savings strategy up a notch and guarantee yourself the best results with your money-saving efforts.

Here's a glance at this episode:

    • [02:35] Naming your savings account to match the goal you're saving for, you're more encouraged to avoid spending that money.
    • [06:29] Depending on what you're saving for and how long it will take to reach that goal, you may want a specific type of account as you save for that goal.
    • [10:14] High Yield Savings Accounts are great options for saving for any type of goal because you'll earn more interest than with a regular savings account.
    • [13:54] As you make progress towards your savings goals, make sure you reward yourself for wins along the way.
    • [16:45] It's so easy to want to do everything at once, but you could be spreading your resources too thin and delaying your progress.

Budgeting Multiple Six Figures with CGS Client Rachel Jun 03, 2024
    Show notes

While making a lot of money may seem like the answer to your problems, if you're not managing it well, you won't have anything to show for it.

Just ask my friend and City Girl Savings client Rachel.

When Rachel and I first started working together in January 2021, she was making well-over six figures but didn't have a clue about where it was going.

Fast forward 3 years later and Rachel is making more than ever, saving, and investing more than ever and doing it all with a solid budget plan.

In this episode, Rachel and I are discussing how growing and budgeting your income, whether you're making six-figures or not, can completely transform your life and finances.

Here's a glance at this episode:

    • [03:20] Rachel shares that she grew up in a single-parent home and described money as being tight and not talked about much.
    • [09:45] Even with making a good salary, Rachel feared looking at her bank app. She would avoid looking at the balance, especially after paying bills.
    • [17:00] Having Raya make a budget for Rachel allowed Rachel to release some pressure and focus on sticking to the budget that was designed for her.
    • [32:45] While Rachel doesn't fully support "job-hopping", she does agree that major salary increases come from a new role (whether in the same company or a new company).
    • [42:18] Some days you're going to give a little more to work. Other days you can give a little more to your family. It will never be perfect.

Simplify Your Money Situation in 6 Steps May 27, 2024
    Show notes

As hard as it may be for you to believe, money doesn't have to be complicated.

Sure, there are complexities with anyone's money situation, but there are always opportunities to simplify.

Don't make things more complicated than they need to be, especially your money!

Wherever you can simplify and reduce complexity with your money, take full advantage.

    Not sure where to start?

In this episode, I'm sharing a few ways you can simplify your money situation and keep things as simple as possible.

The easier you make things in your finances, the more brain power you can give to working on your financial goals!

Here's a glance at this episode:

    • [02:27] You should always know where your money accounts are and where you stand with those accounts.
    • [05:03] Include automation in your money situation. Automate your savings, direct deposit, or retirement contributions.
    • [07:45] Find a budgeting method that works for you. Raya walks through the 50-30-20 budget rule, which could be helpful for budget newbies.
    • [12:01] Spreading your resources across multiple goals may slow your progress towards all your goals. Focus on 1-2 goals at a time.
    • [15:17] Functioning in the negative with your income and spending is a recipe for disaster. Focus on breaking even every month, at minimum.

    Show notes

There's nothing like an organized life.

I'm talking about an organized home, an organized office, organized finances, and overall organization as a part of your everyday life.

We've all been exposed to clutter and can instantly feel the effects.

I know I've walked into my house after a long day at work and after seeing a mess everywhere, my mood instantly tanks.

The same can be said for cluttered finances. When your finances are disorganized, you feel the weight of it on your mental shoulders.

In this episode, I'm sharing 6 tips to help you organize your finances so let's make it a point to get organized once and for all!

Here's a glance at this episode:

    • [02:15] One of the best ways to organize your finances is to create a budget plan. Raya breaks down what your budget needs to be successful.
    • [05:55] Apps can be helpful for tracking your spending, just make sure your app is categorizing your spending appropriately.
    • [11:52] Create a repository for all your accounts. This will help you keep track of everything in one place and stay organized.
    • [15:10] Get your estate affairs in order now, regardless of if you have kids or not. Simply adding a beneficiary to your accounts could make a huge difference.
    • [19:19] Something saved is better than nothing, when you're just getting started. A great goal could be setting up automatic savings transfers.
