    Episode 606 - Francis Luke Accord Apr 28, 2015
    Show notes

The genre-bending, multi-instrumentalist songwriting duo Frances Luke Accord (Brian Powers and Nicholas Gunty) are changing the dynamic of Chicago's folk scene one DIY venture at a time. From their debut project, the non-profit benefit record Kandote, to their house-concert/video series Fluke Takes, FLA have grounded themselves beyond any ordinary indie-folk band. Brian Powers and Nicholas Gunty came to Chicago in 2013 from another burgeoning midwest music hub, South Bend, Indiana. They currently operate the production wing of the band from their northwest-side Chicago apartment, where they've recorded and produced all their present material, as well as a growing collection of work by fellow Chicago DIYers. When Brian and Nicholas came in to record this show I became a Fan immediately. Their lyrics and harmonies are soaring and beautiful. It is impossible not to compare them to Simon and Garfunkel. They have honed their voices into this beautiful music machine. I was a 10 on the goosebump scale the entire show. We brought them in to the CAU Singing For Your Supper showcase at the Act One Pub as headliners and they absolutely killed it. Episode 605 - Ask Your Folks Apr 23, 2015
    Show notes

Ask Your Folks is a Chicago-based trio comprised of vocals, guitar, fiddle, and string bass. Owen Burton (guitar), Libby Weitnauer (fiddle), and Eli Broxham (bass), began playing together during their freshman year as music students at DePaul University. In August of 2013 they started playing at local farmer's markets and formed Ask Your Folks. Since their founding they have done a southern tour, released their debut album, and played in countless venues around Chicago. Trained in a variety of styles, each member has brought aspects of their favorite genres--such as folk, old time, bluegrass, jazz, and rock--to the group. With a goal of creating new, relevant music by drawing on traditional American styles, Ask Your Folks' eclectic style is as intriguing as it is entertaining. This is one from our lost and found department. My apologies to Ask Your Foks. This was a wonderful Podcast and, even though it's late, I am certain you will enjoy the show. All the Videos from this show on Vimeo

    Episode 604 - Jodee Lewis Apr 12, 2015
    Show notes

A native of the Missouri Ozarks, Jodee Lewis was raised on folk songs and honky-tonk, and her music reflects the best of both worlds. The Chicago Tribune says she is "a singer-songwriter whose outsized talent is as big as her voice," and calls her first album, Whiskey Halo, an "impressive solo debut". Already this year, her single from the album, In The End, was chosen as the first place winner in the 16th annual Great American Songwriting Contest. Another single from the album, From A Bottle, took runner-up in the 2014 International Acoustic Music Awards (IAMA) in the country category. Whiskey Halo has also been nominated for country album of the year in the 14th annual Independent Music Awards (IMA). Lewis trained in classical piano and began playing guitar and writing music after moving to Chicago in 1999 with her husband, Chad. Growing up in a small town, Lewis sang in her church gospel choir and with her grandfather's country band, eventually attending Washington University in St. Louis to study Chemical Engineering. After a career with companies such as Monsanto and Clorox, Lewis decided to focus on music and raising her three children. She explores the themes of loss, heartache, and ultimately, finding hope and beauty during moments of challenge. Considered a true storyteller, Lewis uses music to connect with listeners through shared emotion and honesty. The Chicago Tribune says "With her gentle twang and crystalline soprano, she invests her songs with a palpable ache that recalls country thrush Lee Ann Womack".We had a wonderful time recording this show. I am certain, like me, you will become a fan of her music.Vimeo link to Jodee Lewis' Podcast videos

    Episode 601 - Ted Stevens Mar 22, 2015
    Show notes

Last August, from Louisville, Kentucky into the studio comes Ted Stevens. My first take was here's a Rocker dressed up and ready to take the stage. I thought, this is gonna be fun, and I was not disappointed. Ted, the leader of "Ted Stevens and the Third Rail", just had that look where if you saw him walking down the street you'd say to yourself "that guy has to be a rock star". Well, guess what, you would be right with one exception, he is not an asshole. He is one of the nicest guys I have met in ten years of recording these shows. Perhaps the 4 years he lived and played in Scotland had a positive influence on his persona, but, make no mistake; this musician is a credit to Louisville. Here he is in a stripped down solo acoustic set that kicks ass! Obviously, I love this guy! Enjoy!!!Check out all 4 videos from Ted's show on the CAU Vimeo Channel

    Episode 598 - Con Pedigo Mar 01, 2015
    Show notes

Don Pedigo will be joining us this coming Tuesday night March 3, 2015 at the Act One Pub as our special guest for the CAU Singing For Your Supper Showcase Series. Come join us in welcoming Don to the Chciago Music Scene'Don Pedigo's latest project THE CROSS EYED SESSIONS is a musical composition reflective of the life experiences of peaks in heartfelt love and valleys in endured hardships of the everyday working man. A presentation crafted in a devotion to the art of creating a style unique, the collection of songs reveals one of the Americana movement's most honest and compelling talents. Born in Freetown, IN, Pedigo's mid-western charm is matched by his ability to capture a listening audience with handcrafted lyrics, expressive vocals and Chet-like pickin'. With the will and work ethic of a Heartlander, Pedigo's passion led him to the heart of Music City where life as a recording artist, songwriter, musician, husband, father and friend shaped a sonic chapter of Pedigo's life called THE CROSS EYED SESSIONS. Mastered by five-time Grammy Award winning producer Ray Kennedy, the project captures the authentic and organic recording process within each song. Arriving in Nashville, he caught the ear of legendary songwriter Earl Bud Lee ("Friends In Low Places"/Garth Brooks, "Who Are You When I'm Not Looking"/Blake Shelton) who nurtured Pedigo's inherent song-crafting ability. In 2006, Pedigo recorded his first full-production record WHAT I WAS RUNNING FROM (featuring Buddy Miller on guitar) and released the single "Mama's Wedding Gown" (produced by Larry Crane) the following year. The complementary music video qualified the tune as a finalist on the CMT Music City Madness Singer/Songwriter's Competition Top 20 Video Countdown dubbing Pedigo as "the hard-rocking heartthrob from the heartland."
