    Episode 636 - Andrew Tufano Apr 08, 2016
    Show notes

Andrew Tufano While in Chicago on tour last summer, Andrew stopped by the CAU studio and we recorded this Podcast. It was such a wonderful session and I am certain you will enjoy the show. You will have the opportunity to see this Nashville based artist this coming Wednesday April 13th at Uncommon Ground Devon along with Chicago favorite "Baby Shark"See all the Videos hereMusically and otherwise, the opposite of harmonious isn't always dissonant. The two coexist in a sort of multidimensional continuum, defined rigidly when observed, but coalescing with changing proportions in their natural states. And so, in creating something wholesome, it's often useful to sidestep those blurred lines that we use to delineate harmony from dissonance, spontaneity from resolve, and creativity from productivity. Andrew Tufano has spent the last four years honing in on the substance behind these ossified labels through months of independent touring, hundreds of shows nationwide, and three heterogeneous EPs blending a pop acoustic sound with folk and soul roots. In an attempt to further shatter the myth that an artistic nature conflicts with an enterprising spirit, the Nashville-based artist is writing, recording, and releasing 100 songs in 100 days this winter.

    Episode 632 - Colee James Mar 12, 2016
    Show notes

Wisconsin native, Colee James is a performing country-folk singer and songwriter living in Brooklyn, New York. Like music makers Bob Dylan and Emmylou Harris, Colee draws inspiration from sounds of the past and thrives on telling a story through song." The seeds of good music were planted in my soul at an early age. My childhood was vinyl. Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, Hank Williams, and Woody Guthrie spun all throughout my youth. I think the common ground for inspiration was their fearless attempts to showcase vulnerability with just pure honest story telling." Colee says. She hopes to keep writing and sharing her life experiences that people can relate to on a stage, and that hopefully the future kids will find desirable enough to play in those old juke boxes over and over again. Colee James has been exploring the NYC and Brooklyn music scene for the last few years. Playing shows at Rockwood Music Hall, Bowery Electric, Pete's Candy Store, and even her own living room. She's been to Austin, Texas the last few years to play showcases at SXSW, in addition to music festival 'Mile of Music' in her home state of Wisconsin. Colee is preparing for a busy summer of shows in the Midwest and the Northeast, She will finish the year up with a new recording adventure and hopes to release new music by the end of 2015.

    Episode 630 - Tangleweed Feb 18, 2016
    Show notes

Back last summer I had the great good fortune to catch Tangleweed at home in Chicago in between tours and got them in the studio to record this show. As you will hear and see, we had a blast recording this Podcast.See all videos from the showTangleweed is a band of three forward-looking musical reactionaries from Chicago, Illinois. While the band's instrumentation is standard bluegrass, their music is anything but. With a repertoire both broad and deep, one listener described them as sounding like "a band playing on a pirate ship off the coast of New Orleans in the 1920s". Their four CDs have garned critical praise and worldwide airplay, earning the band invitations to appear at major festivals and quality venues around the country. Tangleweed formed in the summer of 2004, with Paul Wargaski on bass, Billy Oh on fiddle, and Scott Judd on guitar. Add'l founding members Timothy Ryan Fisher and Kenneth "Kip" Rainey also logged several years each on banjo and mandolin respectively. Fisher left the group in 2010 after 300+ shows and three cd's, while Rainey departed in 2012 after nearly 400 shows and four cd's.The current lineup of Judd, Oh and Wargaski passed it's litmus test with flying colors in July 2012 at Louisville's "Kentucky Music Weekend", where a festival crowd of over 1,000 heartily confirmed the band's viability as an acoustic power-trio. Since that time, the trio has aggressively developed a new sound by re-arranging early material, exploring new musical directions through fresh original compositions, and bringing Judd's guitar/vocals and Wargaski's upright bass further into the foreground. Billy Oh's fiddle work continues to dazzle as before, and remains a key feature of the band's instrumental forays.Tangleweed Show Dates: Date City Venue Country 02/27/16 Chicago, IL Red Line Tap US Time: 9:00pm. Episode 628 - Scott Wilcox Jan 18, 2016
    Show notes

Scott Wilcox has wanted to be a rock star from birth. When he was three his mother said he used to make up great songs that would go on and on and on. When his father, a semi-famous disc jock in the 70's, spent his whole life always trying to reach a star that was just out of his grasp, so naturally, his mother became very nervous when Scott showed quite a bit of music potential at a young age. His mother always feared that If he pursued music, he might fail, so she liked to tell him, "Music is a hobby, don't quit your day job!".After two decades of "Day Jobs" Scott decided to follow is heart and do his best to make it in the music world. In his first year of trying, Scott produced his first CD called Love Notes, appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Lifeclass Show, won the Bob Dylan songwriting competition, and appeared on many local TV and radio interviews. He not only promoted his music but he created a music festival where he gave others a chance to showcase their music. He started a songwriters club to help show other songwriters how to do what he does, and he volunteered to play his music for students, business leaders, and soldiers. In the brief ten minutes he got to talk with Oprah, he realized something about himself. He realized that music has never been what he does, it's who he is., and he can't deny his music any more than he can deny the blood in his veins. All that hard work paid off big time, as he just returned from New York where he performed in a television ad that will be featured on this coming Super Bowl.View all the videos
