“Zeroes & Villains” Chelsea FanCast #779 Dec 29, 2020

Show notes

Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd, Tony Glover and Mark Meehan to look back to a somewhat disappointing round of Christmas fixtures against Arsenal and Villa.

On the show tonight, we ask whether Frank got enough of a reaction out of the players in the draw against Villa; Giroud doing what he does best and Christensen needing to channel his inner Chumbawumba.

In part two we ask with Jorginho disappointing again why does Billy Gilmour not get a go? Are there mitigating circumstances to some of Chelsea’s recent performances and does our lack of squad depth in terms of quality remain an issue. And why are some supporters just never happy.

In part three we look back at a dreadful defeat to Arsenal where our best team started but mentality was clearly an issue. Who should take responsibility – Frank or the players? Was it a master stroke by Arteta or did he get lucky? And we ask was this one of our worst defeats in years or do some of us just have very short memories.

We wrap up in part four with some fantastic emails.

In part two we applaud Tammy Abraham for taking his chances; delight in the Thiago Silva machine and appraise the league table in a season where anything is possible.

In part three we look ahead to the Boxing Day match against THE Arsenal and ask how bad are they really? How fearful are we of the schadenfreude of losing to a poor Arsenal side containing former Chelsea players David Luiz and Willian, as well as discussing who will start for Chelsea and how we see it going.

Chelsea FanCast Preview Show #777 Dec 18, 2020

Show notes

Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd and Clayton Beerman to look back at Chelsea's second defeat of the week, against Wolves and ahead to Chelsea's Premier League match against West Ham United on Monday night.

A poor mentality and game management seemed to dish out a reality check as Wolves snatched a last minute winner against Chelsea on Tuesday night, but with back to back defeats questions need answering: What's up with Havertz and Werner - is it balance, injuries and fatigue? We also look at Chelsea's tough draw against Atletico Madrid in Champions League Round of 16.

James Jones from We Are West Ham Podcast joins us for 'Opposition View' and with West Ham currently in a lofty 8th place, is he Moyes in? Will their form last? How good is Declan Rice? Who are West Ham's top performers this season? What does Chelsea v West Ham mean to him and how does he see the match going.

We wrap with our own preview of the match: is it must win or must not lose? Who starts, who is fit and who is in form? Should Werner start up front or will Frank stick with Giroud or Tammy Abraham? And finally we discuss how we see the match going.

And last but by no means least, Chidge gives an update on the leaderboard and performer of the week in Chelsea FanCast's 'Prem Predictions' League.

Chelsea drew their final, somewhat meaningless. Champions League group match against Krasnodar. Tino Anjorin and Billy Gilmour had a chance to shine while the squad players did the bare minimum. We ask is Billy Gilmour now ahead of Jorginho in the midfield pecking order and who do we want in the Champions League R16?

Gavin Buckland, Everton's Official Statistician joins us to look ahead to Everton v Chelsea for the 'Opposition View'. We ask him what he thinks of Carlo Ancelotti, how good is Calvert-Lewin, is Pickford a problem and how does he expect the match to go.

We wrap with our own preview of the match by recalling some past clashes, pondering how who will start on the wings given Chelsea's injuries and who will start up front.
