'The Best of a Bad Bunch!' Chelsea FanCast #462 May 07, 2019
    Show notes

Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd, Tony Glover and Joe Tweedie to discuss Chelsea's wins against Watford and Eintracht Frankfurt and try to figure out how they are 3rd in the Premier League.

On the show tonight we look at Chelsea’s Jeckyll and Hyde performance; Kepa’s world class save; Kante’s injury; Jorginho’s improved performance and Ruben Loftus-Cheek increasingly looking the part.

In part two we ask how on earth have Chelsea ended up in the Top 4 and does Sarri deserve some credit for this? We give thanks to Gary Cahill as he bows out and ponder the future without Eden Hazard. With the last home game of the season representing something of an end of term, we discuss the real meaning of following Chelsea week in week out and how it differs from the echo chamber of following Chelsea via social media.

In part three we look back at last Thursday’s Europa League semi-final 1st leg away to Eintracht Frankfurt and ahead to the 2nd leg this Thursday. With Rudiger and now Kante out, and Frankfurt expecting two of their best players back they could be a very different challenge for Chelsea. Is 1-0 enough or will we have our work cut out to make it to the Final?

In part four we have this week’s parish notices plus your emails to read out.

    Show notes

Chelsea FanCast on Love Sport Radio - the only 100% Chelsea show on the radio! Stamford Chidge, Jonathan Kydd and Alex 'The Girl Who Likes Balls' Churchill join Johnny Burrow to look back at Chelsea's promising draw away to Eintracht Frankfurt in the 1st leg of the Europa league semi-final and look ahead to this weekend's Premier League match at home to Watford.

Dom Fifield, London Football correspondent for The Guardian joins us on the phone to talk about Chelsea's performance against Frankfurt. Was Sarri's decision to rest Hazard too much of a risk and did it pay off? With Loftus-Cheek imposing himself on the match, will his back condition need to be managed carefully? With only 2 fit central defenders currently how will this impact Chelsea's remaining matches and will Luiz be offered a contract extension?

We discuss the Eintracht Frankfurt v Chelsea match and the 'Hazard Gamble', did it pay off for Sarri and is 1-1 a good result or not? Are Frankfurt as good as we feared and why did they run out of gas? Great to see Ruben Loftus-Cheek impressing again, but why does Chelsea fail to finish teams off when they're on top? Will the injury crisis in defence be an issue in the 2nd leg and will Chelsea get to the final and a possible match against Arsenal?

With the 'Race for the Top Four' going down to the wire, while it appears to be in Chelsea's hands, who has the hardest two games? Chelsea, Utd or Arsenal?

Chelsea face Watford on Sunday but will the Hornets have one eye on the Cup Final? With Deeney back and Deulofeu on fire, they’ll be a threat, With Giroud playing in the Europa League it seems that Sarri will pick misfiring Higuain and we ask ow big a miss will Rudiger be in defence?

This week's 'Opposition View' comes from Jacob of WD18 and we ask him how he feels about Watford’s form being been patchy since the semi-final and do they have one eye on the final? How pleased are Watford fans with the season? How will Watford beat Chelsea? Which Chelsea player worries them most and what is his match prediction.

We wrap up by discussing how we see Chelsea v Watford going, discuss our score predictions and reveal the answer to our Chelsea Fancast quiz: 'Chidge & Chad's Chelsea Challenge' (courtesy of @ChelseaChadder) which this week is "Which former Chelsea record signing was bought from Watford?"

'To Me, To You!' Chelsea FanCast #461 Apr 29, 2019
    Show notes

Join Stamford Chidge, Jonathan Kydd, Dan Silver and Clayton Beerman as we look back at Chelsea's first point away to a top six side this season in the 1-1 draw against Man Utd.

On the show tonight we look at the positives and the negatives from the draw with Man Utd, before concluding that it was indeed a poor game from two poor sides.

In part two with one of the most inept performances I have seen from a Chelsea striker in recent times, and let’s face it there’s been plenty of choice recently, we ask where does Higuain rank in rank Chelsea strikers and what on earth is Sarri smoking if he thinks he should lead the line at Chelsea next season? We also question Martin Atkinson’s questionable refereeing and assess Chelsea’s chances of finishing in the top four.

In part three we look ahead to Thursday’s Europa League semi-final 1st leg away to Eintracht Frankfurt – who will Sarri pick and what would be a good result in what promises to be a very tough test. And we celebrate 11 years of the Chelsea FanCast whose birthday it was yesterday with a few memories of 11 years of podcasting.

In part four we have this week’s parish notices plus your emails to read out and questions to answer.

Chelsea FanCast on Love Sport Radio 26/04/19 Apr 26, 2019
    Show notes

Chelsea FanCast on Love Sport Radio - the only 100% Chelsea show on the radio! Stamford Chidge and Jonathan Kydd join Johnny Burrow to look back at Chelsea's frustrating draw against Burnley and look ahead to Sunday's crunch match against Man Utd.

Liam Twomey, Chelsea correspondent for ESPN joins us on the phone to report on the Press Conference with Maurizio Sarri. We discuss the importance of the Man Utd v Chelsea match; get an injury update and discuss what Sarri had to say about Liam's question to him on Chelsea's poor away results against the top six this season. Also, what did Sarri think about Eden Hazard not being selected for the PFA's Team of the Season.

The 2-2 draw at home to Burnley was undoubtedly a 'Game of Two Halves' with two great goals by Chelsea interspersed with some terrible defending to concede two poor goals. Burnley’s dark arts made life difficult for Chelsea but is it a valid excuse and should the referee take action? Why can’t Sarri make effective in-game changes? Is Chelsea’s squad good enough? Can Sarri improve them?

Hudson-Odoi ruptures his achilles and is out for maybe 6 months. What will the impact be on Chelsea's run in? Will the Bayern move be in doubt? How will it impact Hazard’s move to Real Madrid and will Hudson-Odoi come back the same player?

In the race for the top four, Chelsea, Arsenal & Utd are all looking bad as each other but can Chelsea still make the top 4? Chidge's spreadsheet and prediction skills provide the answers.

Previewing Man Utd v Chelsea does the season all boil down to this match? Do we really see Utd losing three in a row? Do we really see Chelsea getting a result when they need to? Will Sarri bottle it and play Hazard as false 9 again?

We get 'The Opposition View' from Jack Ronson from BBC Manchester and ask him if Utd jumped the gun in making Ole Gunnar Solksjaer permanent Utd manager? Is Utd’s squad not good enough or is their attitude to blame for their poor recent performances? Are their similarities in both Chelsea & Utd’s decline? And finally how does Jack see the match going and what's his score prediction?

We wrap up by discussing how we see Utd v Chelsea going and reveal our score predictions and reveal the answer to our new Chelsea Fancast quiz: 'Chidge & Chad's Chelsea Challenge' (courtesy of @ChelseaChadder) which this week is "Who are the last 10 Chelsea players to score against Man Utd?"

    Show notes

Stamford Chidge is joined by Tony Glover and Joe Tweedie to grimace and gurn over Chelsea's latest monument to frustration as they fail to capitalise on their top four rivals mishaps by dropping points at home to Burnley. Plus a look back at the Slavia Prague match and a look ahead to Man Utd this weekend.

On the show tonight; another match, another game of two halves but how much did the injuries to Hudson-Odoi and Kante; the woeful refereeing from Kevin Friend and Burnley’s overall shithousery cost Chelsea?

In part two we ask why Sarri can’t make innovative changes during the match and confirm what Tony has been saying for months. Chelsea have become Arsenal. After dropping points at home to Burnley we revisit Chelsea’s chances of finishing in the top four; take an objective view on whether or not Sarri has improved Chelsea and take a look at which Chelsea players are actually good enough.

Chelsea FanCast on Love Sport Radio - the only 100% Chelsea show on the radio! Stamford Chidge and Jonathan Kydd join Jake Watson to look back at Chelsea's win against Slavia Prague and look ahead to Monday's match against Burnley.

Oliver Harbord, Chelsea correspondent of Football.London joins us on the phone to look back at the 4-3 win against Slavia Prague which sees Chelsea reach the semi-final of the Europa League. Having roared in to a 4-1 lead, Chelsea let Slavia back in to the match with two second half goals giving rise to a tense last 20 minutes. Was it a case of from the sublime to the ridiculous and what on earth does Sarri say to the team at half-time? Given Chelsea's proclivity to switch off in the second half this season, it begs the question.

We discuss Chelsea's apparent complacency and ask whether it is more evidence of a lack of leadership in the team and on that point who should be the leader of the team?

Chelsea now face Eintracht Frankfurt in the semi-final and arguably the dark horses of the competition. An attacking and free-scoring side with sought after striker Luka Jovic and World Cup finalist Anton Rebic they will be no push over for Chelsea. but can Chelsea overcome then and go all the way to win the trophy or will they fall at the final hurdle. Will Sarri be a Chelsea nearly man or an he break his trophy winning duck?

Looking ahead to the Burnley match on Monday, Chelea arguably need to win every match to be sure of a top four finish, but with Burnley probably safe from relegation will they now be 'on the beach' or will they be typically robust opponents?

We get the Burnley perspective from Robbie Coppack of the No Nay Never podcast and ask him how difficult Burnley’s struggles have been this season? How underrated is Sean Dyche as a manager and are Burnley now safe and perhaps 'on the beach'?

We wrap up by discussing how we see Chelsea v Burnley going and give our match predictions as well as revealing the answers to the Chelsea FanCast quiz: How many Chelsea players have played for Burnley?

'The End is Nigh' (A Biblical Apocalypse!) - Chelsea FanCast #459 Apr 15, 2019
    Show notes

Stamford Chidge is joined by Jonathan Kydd, Dan Silver and Tony Glover to digest a a very unpalatable defeat to Liverpool at Anfield which may have helped Liverpool's quest for their first title in 29 years.

On the show tonight we look at Sarri’s tactics, inept refereeing, Salah cheating, Rudiger going off, Chelsea perennially leaking goals between the 45th and 60th minute to try and explain what went wrong and could it have all been very different.

In part two its operation ‘get the vote out’ for the FBAs and we announce the next Hyundai Extra Mile winner and have an interview with him, before asking are Chelsea simply not good enough; have we become too entitled or does it just hurt like hell losing to Liverpool and can we still make the top 4 in spite of yesterday’s defeat? We also look at some foul behaviour by both Liverpool players and their fans.

Jan Pikous, Football Writer for EuroFotbal.cz joins us on the phone to talk about the Slavia Prague match from a Czech perspective, as Jan was at the game. Slavia played well just as Jan predicted this week but are Slavia feeling confident for the 2nd leg? Sarri felt that Chelsea showed some fight, but was it more down to bringing on Hazard and Kante? And while it was a disappointing performance from Chelsea 1-0 away win is not a bad result in Europe.

Discussing the Europa League match, Chelsea's ‘b’ team is not as good as the A Team and Chelsea still seem susceptible to pressing, physicality and sloppiness. Will Sarri rue having to bring Hazard, Kante & RLC on? And what about the joy of the ultimate ‘troll’ goal created by Willian and scored by Alonso.

Looking back at the win against West Ham we discuss Hazard's performance and possibly the goal of the season? But is Hazard on his way to Real Madrid and does he go with our blessing?

Chelsea face Liverpool this weekend, with Jurgen Klopp's team hunting down a first league title in 29 years. Some might say that the fate of the civilised football world rests on Chelsea's shoulders this weekend! However, are Liverpool having a wobble in recent form? Can Chelsea be party poopers again? Will Sarri pick the right side and how can Chelsea beat Liverpool on Sunday?

We get the Liverpool perspective from Daniel Moxon from The Kopite in 'Opposition View and ask him how desperate are Liverpool to win the title? Are the fans worried that they might choke again? Does Chelsea's good record at Anfield recently worry Liverpool fans? If Liverpool beat Chelsea, is the title in the bag and who will the key players for Chelsea and Liverpool be? Finally how does Daniel see it going and what's his score prediction?

We wrap up by discussing how we see Liverpool v Chelsea going and give our match predictions as well as the answers to the Chelsea FanCast quiz: How many Chelsea players have played for Liverpool?

'Bitter Sweet Symphony' Chelsea FanCast #458 Apr 09, 2019
    Show notes

Stamford Chidge is joined by no lesser man than Joe Tweedie to discuss a very satisfactory win against West Ham this week on a night when Eden Hazard reminded us how much we will miss him when he goes.

On the show tonight we delight in Hazard’s performance against West Ham and muse over the bitter sweet farewell that looks increasingly likely.

We've made the finals of the Football Blogging Awards for Best Podcast. You can vote for us here: https://footballbloggingawards.co.uk/vote-now/

In part two we discuss the turn round in Chelsea’s performances since Sarri started both Loftus-Cheek and Hudson-Odoi; and ponder what back to back wins which now leave Chelsea in 3rd mean for the run in and our hopes of a top four finish.

In part three we look ahead to Thursday’s Europa League 1st leg quarter final against Slavia Prague and have an interview with journalist, Jan Pikous who writes for Czech football website eurofotbal.cz and knows Slavia Prague inside out. Show notes

Chelsea FanCast on Love Sport Radio - the only 100% Chelsea show on the radio! Stamford Chidge and Jonathan Kydd joining Johnny Burrow to look back at Chelsea's wins against Brighton and Cardiff last week and ahead to Monday night's match against West Ham.

We kick off discussing Roman Abramovich not enjoying Chelsea's Hospitality; empty spaces at the Bridge and the Chelsea FanCast being nominated for Best Podcast in the finals of the Football Blogging Awards. Plus this week's Chelsea quiz: which players played for both Chelsea and West Ham - we found 37!

Dom Fifield, The Guardian's London Football Correspondent ESPN's joins us on the phone to talk about Friday's press conference where Maurizio Sarri answered questions on possible squad rotation and team selection for the West Ham & Slavia Prague matches; Loftus-Cheek & Hudson-Odoi impressing for Chelsea against Brighton; the atmosphere at Stamford Bridge and the future of Gonzalo Higuain.

Looking back to the Chelsea v Brighton match we ask are happy days back at the Bridge again and has Sarri redeemed himself by picking Loftus-Cheek and Hudson-Odoi? With Loftus-Cheek stamping his class and authority on the Brighton match capping it off wit a superb goal we ask has he come of age as a Chelsea player? And with Gonzalo Higuain struggling is Olivier Giroud head (beard) & shoulders above him at the moment? With Eden Hazard putting in yet another sublime display, with rumours still persisting about an imminent move to Real Madrid is it time to savour his last few Chelsea matches?

Chelsea put in a woeful performance against Cardiff last weekend but still managed to win in part due to Willian’s hair obscuring the linesman's view of a clear offside. With Chelsea's away support continually chanting ‘We want Sarri out’ is it a help or hindrance and why do so many Chelsea fans want Sarri out?

Looking ahead to Chelsea v West Ham on Monday should Sarri keep the same starting 11 and are West Ham a bogey side for Chelsea? In the 'Opposition View' Brian from Blowing Bubbles discusses complacency and consistency being a problem at West Ham; the disruptive Arnautovic saga and just how good is Declan Rice and will West Ham be able to keep him? Hiow does Brian see the match going and what is his prediction.

We wrap up by discussing how we see Chelsea v West Ham going and give our match predictions as well as the answers to the Chelsea FanCast quiz: How many Chelsea players have played for West Ham?

All this plus calls from Ruki from Canada; Yannick from Surrey and Daniel from Sweden.
