Cedric Maxwell Has Same Knee Procedure as Kemba Walker to correct a nagging knee injury that spans all the way back to the infamous 1985-85 season that led to an eventual trade from the Boston Celtics to the LA Clippers.
In winter 2020, Max finally decided to address his knee pain that stretches all the way back to the injury that effectively ended his prime in 1985.
After seeing and hearing about the success of stem cell procedure underwent by current Celtics star Kemba Walker, the former NBA Finals MVP started his mission to research the Walker procedure more. Max was shocked to find out that
a clinic in Leominster, Massachusetts, has been providing a similar procedure to Walker with care and treatment to patients of all ages.
After a short drive from his home to Maragal Medical in Leominster, Maxwell was introduced to Doctors Tim Gallagher, Michael Marciello and their fine staff for his first consult.
Max knew immediately that had found the right people to start the process of a pain free life for the first time in over 3 decades.
As Maxwell put it when asked by CLNS, “Dr. Tim and Dr. Mike treated me like family from the first day we all met.”
After the informative consult, Cedric decided to start his treatments saying, “the fine professionals at Maragal didn’t just tell me what I’ve needed all these years, they educated me on what’s still causing the pain in my damn know,” Maxwell continued, “and why I was a good candidate for a similar procedure as my young brother Kemba.”
Of course, Kemba Walker’s exact treatment couldn’t be known for sure but Maxwell did learn that his stem cell treatment will address issues specific to Max while Kemba’s treatment, handled by a different clinic, treated Kemba for his injury.
After now in the final stages of the treatments, Maxwell finished his review of Maragal by saying, “Whether you’re a former high school athlete or current professional, like Kemba, no one is immune to injury and finally, a procedure with no drugs to hide the pain. Maragal provides a treatment for the athletically active adult in the 21st century, regardless of age.”
If you’re a Celtics fanatic, You’ve probably heard Sean Grande and Cedric Maxwell discuss “Cornbread’s new knee” during the Celtics game broadcast. Well, Max still stands on the same legs he did when he won the MVP in 1981 but for the first time since early 1984, he’s finally standing, walking and being active without the pain that plagued the later years of his playing career. When pressed on whether he can give Brad Stevens some quality minutes off the bench, Max concluded by saying, “my playing days are over but I’m tempted to lace up my pony’s and start to horse around the court again, possibly a dunk is in my near future...”
