    Show notes

We're learning preliminary results show a new coronavirus vaccine from Moderna is 94.5% effective in phase three trials. It's not conclusive, but it is very encouraging, coming after last week's good news from Pfizer. The vaccine news comes at a desperate time, as the U.S. has added around a million new cases of the virus in less than a week. That brings the national total above 11 million, as daily cases rise in 49 states across the country. CBS News is now projecting the winner of all 50 states in the presidential election. Despite Joe Biden's lead of 306 to 232 electoral votes, President Trump still won't concede. We are sharing former President Barack Obama's first interview since President-elect Biden won the election. He talks to us about his deep concern over the country's political divide after Americans went to the polls.

The Pivotal Role of Latino Voters in the 2020 Election Nov 13, 2020
    Show notes

Latino voters came out in record numbers to participate in the 2020 Election. While President-elect Joe Biden won the majority of Hispanic voters, the diverse electorate proved pivotal in key states like Florida, Texas and Arizona. CBS News contributor Maria Elena Salinas and CBS News political analyst Leslie Sanchez join CBS News national correspondent Mireya Villarreal to discuss how President Trump was able to make in-roads with Latino voters, how Biden's performance among the demographic was weaker than Hillary Clinton's four years ago, and whether Hispanic voters were key in flipping Arizona blue for the first time since 1996.

11/11: New signs the pandemic is out of control. The battle over the presidential transition intensifies. Nov 11, 2020
    Show notes

Officials reported a record 136,000 new COVID-19 cases yesterday. The crisis is plain to see in most of the U.S., forcing governors to announce new restrictions. More Americans are in the hospital with coronavirus this morning than at any other point in this pandemic. There's new uncertainty about the response to the pandemic while President Trump refuses to admit he's lost the election and stays out of public view. President-elect Joe Biden has spoken nearly every day since Election Day, meanwhile, the Trump administration continues to delay the transition of power. The president's legal team is pursuing lawsuits in at least five states, including a new one filed last night in Michigan. CBS News has not projected a winner in four states: Georgia, North Carolina, Arizona and Alaska. Even if President Trump won those states, he would not be re-elected.

11/10: The Trump administration is on a collision course with President-elect Biden's transition effort. HHS Secretary on COVID-19 vaccines. Nov 10, 2020

There are new efforts in the Trump administration to obstruct the Biden-Harris transition team. The president-elect has been preparing for months to take power, but since President Trump won't admit defeat, he's being denied access to essential government resources. Attorney General William Barr issued a new memo paving the way for prosecutors to investigate claims of voter fraud, even though they're unsubstantiated. While the Trump administration continues to hold up the transition, President-elect Biden's team is considering taking legal action. More than ten million Americans have been infected with COVID-19 since the pandemic began. That includes more than one million new cases since the end of October, the worst stretch of infections so far in this country. The U.S. government is gearing up to roll out multiple vaccines when they're ready. Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar joins us to discuss those efforts.
