    Episode 189: Bucked Dec 11, 2018
    Show notes

Nate and EG trotted into the booth for a recapping this game and a few of the others leading up to it. We spent some time discussing the rookie ups and downs of the Young Bull, the somewhat disappointing sophomore campaign for Cedi Osman, hit on the return of the Thunder from Down Under, and mused about other goings on in the NBA universe. We did it all while occasionally tuning into the final throwdown between LeBron and DWade out in Los Angeles, and were rewarded when we got to see Kelly Olynyk get bucked in the jewels... good times indeed.

Episode 188: Closer than The Score Dec 06, 2018
    Show notes

Nate Smith and David Wood went to the Pod Booth after the game to discuss the past couple Cavs games, who we think is making it to the Finals, trade spots for current Cavs, who we like in the West, new Cavalier Alec Burks, and much more. We get closer than the score on the Warriors game. who blew the Cavs out by 24 points. The game was close though, we swear. The Cavs finished the first-half on a 19-5 run hitting five 3s to be up six. The third quarter didn’t go as planned though, as the Warriors outscored the Cavs 37-22 behind 15 Kevin Durant points. By the time the fourth rolled around, Cleveland was done for and the Warriors just kept adding onto their lead. Rodney Hood led the Cavs early on getting 11 of his 15 points in the first quarter. Collin Sexton led the team in scoring with 21 points on on 7-14 shooting. He went 3-3 on 3s, including two during the Cavs big second quarter run. Tristan Thompson caught another double with 14 points and 19 boards. And, Cedi was probably the best all around Cavalier with 16 points on 6-12 shooting to go with three boards and two steals. The team even managed to limit their turnovers to just ten on the evening.

Episode 187: Off the Rails Nov 27, 2018
    Show notes

Not sure the degree that Tom, Nate and EvilGenius actually captured the outcome of this Cavalier setback tonight against the Minnesota Timberwolves, as the guys spent a large chunk of time debating the semantics of what transpired in the Browns game Sunday and the subsequent shade thrown by Baker Mayfield on his former coach today. Tom and EG were on diametrically opposed sides of the argument, while Nate was content to lob chaos grenades whenever the flames waned. (Fast Forward to the 15:40 mark if you want to skip to the Cavs' talk). One thing we could all agree upon ultimately, however, is that the Cavs have been playing much more inspired basketball of late. We discussed the turnaround that seemed to begin with the Lakers game, and continued through a back-to-back winning weekend for the wine & gold. We broke down the strides of individual players to measure the progress of Tristan Thompson, Collin Sexton, Cedi Osman and many others. And, we did get back on track at some point to delve into this contest with the TWolves. Though the Cavs got thrown off by a stronger defensive opponent that turned them over 16 times, they were still able to keep things competitive... mainly through the hot shooting of Rodney Hood and Kyle Korver.

Episode 186: Turnovers and Turkeys Nov 15, 2018
    Show notes

Nate Smith and David Wood hopped in the podcast booth to discuss this Wizards game and the Cavs development over the past couple games. They then touched on the NBA at large, who the Cavs might trade first, some G-League Action, the Cavs front office, and who the the Cavs might get in trades this season. And, they covered their preferred turkey making methods.

    Episode 185: Milquetoast Motivators Nov 08, 2018
    Show notes

Tom Pestak and Nate smith hopped into the podcast booth to discuss the Thunder loss, the overall NBA, the disaster that was Monday's collapse against Orlando, and the guys the Cavs could've drafted instead of Sexton. We also hit on a lot of "get off my lawn" topics with rants on punditry, horrible headlines, clickbait, and the mind numbing blandness of linked-in and its mind-numbingly milquetoast motivational memes. It seemed like a metaphor for how the Cavs are competing: saying all the right thing while nothing really changes.

    Podcast 184: Lue-sin' It Oct 29, 2018
    Show notes

Last season, when David Fizdale was relieved of his coaching duties by the Memphis Grizzlies, Tyronn Lue said he wasn't worried about his own job, because "only bad coaches get fired." Flash forward almost a year, and Lue now finds himself on the other end of that assertion. Was he a bad coach? Did he deserve more than six games to figure out how to make the Cavaliers competitive in a post LeBron landscape? And, was his sudden release more the result of his losing games... or losing a power struggle with his own front office? To try and answer these questions and more, Nate, Tom and EG donned their headphones and hopped in the booth armed with their opinions, best guesses and possible conspiracy theories. We debate the reasons both real and imagined behind the jettisoning of the one coach in 60+ years to win a Championship in Cleveland, who his replacement might be (maybe or maybe not Larry Drew...), what course of action the Cavs should take going forward to either save or tank the season, and whether or not the owner isn't just Lue-sin' it... but lost it. Overall, while we've all been critical in our own ways about Ty's up and down tenure with the Cavs, we never enjoy seeing guys lose their jobs. No matter what, Lue was at the helm of the ship for the magical 2016 title... and nothing and no one can ever take that away. Thanks Ty. We wish you the best.

Podcast 183: Overs, Unders, Hoaxes and Blunders Oct 16, 2018
    Show notes

Will the Cavs really win fewer than 31 games this year? Will the Lakers win more than 48? Will the Warriors continue their boring domination? Will the Indiana Pacers go Hoosier and shock the world? Who will win the end of season awards? And, most importantly... will Tom have to become a vigilante to stop the spread of a new fruity drug scourge from claiming victims in Southern Ohio? All of these questions get answered... and much, much, much (really way too much) more on tonight's eve of the regular season podcast. Nate, David, EG and Tom all crowded into the booth to get a lay of the land... and The Land as the Cavs embark on this year's journey. We try to separate reality from surreal hoax... and head down a rabbit hole filled with guns, drugs, fake news and denied Linked-In requests. You have to hear it to believe it...

Episode 182: Get off My Lawn Oct 11, 2018
    Show notes

Thanks to Kyrie Irving being unable to keep his ungrateful, recalcitrant pie hole buttoned... EG went full Pestak tonight, dragging Nate down a rabbit hole of NBA rants. The Evil one gave both barrels to the Flat Earther about his recent comments about Boston "saving" him from the living hell that apparently must have been Cleveland for him. That vitriol spilled over into other topics like Jimmy Butler's weird hold out that doesn't extend to insane practice sessions where he shouts at people like a lunatic... uninformed announcers and media honks who seem hell-bent on bursting any bubble of happiness we Cavs fans want to nurse in the days before the games matter... and the insanity EG and Nate found in actually rooting for the Warriors in a meaningless preseason tilt in Vegas with LeBron's Frankenstein Lakers. Whew... that's a lot of annoyance packed into an hour or so of a two man pod... but hopefully you'll get a kick out of a couple of geezers letting off steam

Podcast 181: Taking Flight by CavsTheBlog

    Episode 180: We Just Don't Know Sep 28, 2018
    Show notes

This podcast started out with a fully triggered Tom Pestak ready to rant to David Wood and Nate Smith. Despite plenty to talk about in the world of basketball, the Cavs, sports, and culture, Tom's ire was focused on a perceived slight towards CtB. This delved into a discussion of the state of Cavs' media, and a realization that we're celebrating the 10th anniversary of CavsTheBlog this season. The topics for this anniversary podcast ranged far and wide. Also catching Tom's ire? The state of nutrition science today (if that seems random to you, you're not alone). Tom can't shake the feeling that despite years of data it feels like we know less now about the topic than we did 20 years ago. "We just don't know," was also an apt summation of our thoughts on this Cavs season, as we delved into an array of topics. Manu Ginobili, one of the greatest guards of his generation? Who's been watching Dion Waiters' nutrition and could the Cavs use Saint Weirdo? Where will Jimmy Butler end up and can Cleveland be a part of the trade? Why's Ty Lue putting Rodney Hood on a pedestal? We also examined LeBron's trials in L.A., whether we're rooting for or against him, and whether the Lakers or Cavs have a better shot at the playoffs. We discussed the rumors of Jimmy sliding into his teammates' girls' DMs, and channeled our inner Froggy Fresh as we discussed where Jimmy Butler ranks in terms of NBA players. We asked which Morris twin is the stupid one? Will Ty be able to play his best players? What would making the playoffs do for the Cavs future? ...and a litany of other topics. We didn't have all the answers, but we weren't afraid to ask questions.
