    Canada is Boring

Canada is boring? Nope. Canada is unhinged.

Hosted by Rhys, a new Canadian with an outsider’s obsession for the country’s strangest stories, and Jesse, a proudly disengaged average Canadian, the show digs into the weirdest moments in Canadian history, politics, crime, culture, and folklore.

Part history show, part comedy podcast, part national identity crisis, Canada Is Boring is for anyone who likes their learning with jokes, their politics with chaos, and their Canadian facts deeply, deeply strange. The show has built a loyal audience by making Canadian stories feel surprising, accessible, and genuinely entertaining, earning recognition as Canada’s No. 1 Politics Podcast on Goodpods, breaking into the Top 5 Podcasts in Canada on Apple Podcasts, hitting No. 1 Trending on Spotify Canada, and reaching No. 3 in Canada for Comedy.

The 1775 Invasion of Quebec - Canada Day Special Jun 30, 2025
    Show notes

This Canada Day, we're lighting the fireworks and revisiting one of the most awkward house calls in history, the 1775 Invasion of Quebec. Yep, before America was even officially America, they tried to "liberate" Quebec.

We unpack how a ragtag group of revolutionaries, led by guys named Benedict, Montgomery and the Green Mountain Boys, who marched through the snow, begged the French to join the rebellion, and ended up face-planting into a fortress city that wasn’t buying what they were selling.

What happens when provinces get itchy feet? Who gets to decide what "freedom" looks like? And what lessons can we learn from a time when outsiders thought they could just walk in and take a province?

The Quebec Biker War Jun 16, 2025
    Show notes

Move over, Sons of Anarchy—this is the real, blood-soaked, leather-clad chaos that turned Quebec into a battleground for biker gangs in the '90s. And yes, it involved rocket launchers.

This week, we dig into the Quebec Biker War, a turf war so violent and explosive it made national headlines, just not enough headlines, considering it killed over 160 people and had daycare centres dodging bombs. This is Canada Is Boring: where even the polite provinces have turf wars and bad tattoos.

    Don't leave us Alberta! Jun 09, 2025
    Show notes

A new political party wants Alberta to quit Canada. This week, we dive into the freshly minted Alberta Republican Party and its bold plan to turn the Wild Rose province into a country of its own.

As someone who lived through the political fever dream that was Brexit, Rhys breaks down the eerie similarities, the weaponization of identity politics, and how a populist playbook could be galloping straight into the Alberta foothills.

Who’s behind the Alberta Republican Party? What they actually want (besides more cowboy hats)? And what does it actually feels like when big referendums happen based on misinformation.

The Windsor Hum May 31, 2025
    Show notes

What do you get when you mix industrial noise, international mystery, and a whole lot of polite complaining? That’s right — The Windsor Hum.

This week we dive ears-first into one of the weirdest and most persistent sonic mysteries in the Great White North. Since the early 2010s, folks in Windsor, Ontario, have been plagued by a low, rumbling sound that won’t go away. It’s not your fridge. It’s not your neighbour’s subwoofer. It’s something else entirely.

    Greg Vezina’s Ammonia Car May 25, 2025
    Show notes

This week we dive into the incredible, slightly pungent, and definitely fascinating world of Canada’s ammonia car pioneer. Greg Vezina, political activist turned eco-inventor, is out to prove that fuel doesn’t have to come from fossils — it can come from fertilizer. From saving the planet to raising eyebrows at the emissions testing centre, Greg’s mission is part climate crusade, part Canadian curiosity.

The Skylight Caper May 10, 2025
    Show notes

On the quiet Labour Day weekend of 1972, three masked men executed a daring heist at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Scaling a tree and slipping through a skylight under repair, they descended into the museum, subdued the guards, and made off with 18 paintings and 39 pieces of jewelry—valued at $2 million at the time, making it the largest art theft in Canadian history.Among the stolen works was a rare Rembrandt landscape, along with pieces by Delacroix, Rubens, and Millet.Despite ransom negotiations and extensive investigations, only two items have ever been recovered, and the culprits remain unidentified.

John Ware: Trailblazing the West May 03, 2025
    Show notes

In this episode, we ride into the extraordinary life of John Ware, one of the most iconic and underrepresented figures in Canadian history. Born into slavery in the American South, Ware rose above the brutality of his beginnings to become a celebrated cowboy, rancher, and folk hero in 19th-century Alberta. We explore his journey from enslavement to freedom, his unmatched skills as a horseman, and his profound impact on Western Canada’s ranching culture.
