    Canada is Boring

Canada is boring? Nope. Canada is unhinged.

Hosted by Rhys, a new Canadian with an outsider’s obsession for the country’s strangest stories, and Jesse, a proudly disengaged average Canadian, the show digs into the weirdest moments in Canadian history, politics, crime, culture, and folklore.

Part history show, part comedy podcast, part national identity crisis, Canada Is Boring is for anyone who likes their learning with jokes, their politics with chaos, and their Canadian facts deeply, deeply strange. The show has built a loyal audience by making Canadian stories feel surprising, accessible, and genuinely entertaining, earning recognition as Canada’s No. 1 Politics Podcast on Goodpods, breaking into the Top 5 Podcasts in Canada on Apple Podcasts, hitting No. 1 Trending on Spotify Canada, and reaching No. 3 in Canada for Comedy.

The Candy Bar War May 02, 2022
    Show notes

Day to day costs were rising in 1947 as post war subsidies were removed. As people became careful in their spending, the youth decided they'd had enough. Canada's kids began a national boycott that terrified 'Big Chocolate'. This was a battle to the death, and only a big fat lie would end the protests.

Gun Maniacs: Canada's Early Gun Laws Apr 25, 2022
    Show notes

Canada's gun laws are in the news again, but did you know that the first gun laws were only enforced on non-British immigrants. This is the story of fear mongering over cheap guns and a wave of new Canadians that were treated like 'Enemy Aliens'. Also, we invent a 12 step program for self proclaimed racists, to help them learn to love everyone.

The Housing Crisis Is Bullsh!t Apr 18, 2022
    Show notes

How can a huge country, largely comprised of undeveloped wilderness, experience one the most profound housing affordability crisis in living memory? Rhys and Jesse wander through the bizarre political landscape that has seen a nation sleepwalk into a manufactured, avoidable crisis, maintained by an unwillingness by leaders to take bold action. And other stuff.

The Trudeau Cocaine Train Mystery Show Apr 11, 2022

Actually, this is an episode all about the Salmon Arm Salute. Pierre Trudeau, in a moment of range, flipped the bird to some protestors hassling his kids. An infamous incident that marked the start of Western alienation? Or just an overblown moment of nonsense?

    Anti-Vaxers Were Smarter 100 Years Ago Apr 03, 2022
    Show notes

History doesn't always repeat itself, but it does rhyme. This week we jump back 100 years ago, to a time when Toronto was beseiged by a deadly virus, Small Pox.

With public health figures wanting to push mass vaccination, a very successful anti-vax movement was born. A 'viral' press campaign (letters not tweets) combined with arrogant health officials heavily impressed by health 'influencers' hampered efforts to vaccinate the people of Toronto.

How was this movement different from today and in some cases, why was it much more sensible? Tune into find out!

    Cucumber-Gate Mar 28, 2022
    Show notes

The sudden resignation of a Newfoundland Agricultural Minister in 1989 was driven by an unlikely culprit...cucumbers. But these were no ordinary cucumbers. They were the product of mismanaged public spending, unproven science and a bad investment. Eventually this small green gourd brought down a government.
