#227 Being the Mom of a Scary Trans Kid, with Jamie Bruesehoff Jun 19, 2023

Show notes

In 2017, a ten-year-old girl named Rebekah went viral when she appeared at a rally with a simple sign: "I'm the scary transgender person the media warned you about." Her mom and dad, Jamie and ELCA pastor Chris Bruesehoff, had been raising Rebekah with her two younger brothers in a relatively safe "bubble of protection" where most people Rebekah met were kind and affirming. Suddenly, they were in a national spotlight. Six years later, Jamie joins Emmy for a special episode on trans kids, parental activism, and what gender-expansive people can teach all of us.
