Why are we here? Is there a God? Can there be authentic mystical experience? Are Hindus and Buddhists correct that we can attain a state of enlightenment? Can psychedelic drugs give us a glimpse of it? Does religion have a viable place in the modern world? Is there a common core of values and insights among the world's religions? Huston Smith spent his career in a search for answers to these and other questions. Born in China in 1919, the son of Methodist missionaries, Smith followed a life-long spiritual quest that led him around the world many times. He studied the world's religions and mystical traditions directly with Aldous Huxley, D.T. Suzuki, J. Krishnamurti, Alan Watts, Paul Tillich, Reinhold Niebuhr, the Dalai Lama, Joseph Campbell, Ram Dass, and a host of others. Huston, as a renowned philosopher of religion, helped shape the contemporary face of comparative religion, interfaith dialogue, and religious tolerance. Stephan Bodian is a teacher in the nondual wisdom tradition of Zen, Dzogchen, and Advaita Vedanta and the founder and director of the annual School for Awakening, an intensive six-month program of exploration and study. His offerings are noted for their humor, warmth, spontaneity, and intimacy and combine direct pointers, lively dialogues, silent sitting, and guided self-inquiry. He’s the author of several books, including Wake Up Now: A Guide to the Journey of Spiritual Awakening and Beyond Mindfulness: The Direct Approach to Lasting Peace, Happiness, and Love. Stephan spent a decade practicing Zen intensively as a monk but left the monastery because he sensed that the rigorous practice of meditation was obscuring the truth he was seeking. After studying Dzogchen for several years, he met his guru, Jean Klein, a European teacher of Advaita Vedanta, who told him to stop meditating and instead discover the meditator. Shortly after meeting Jean, he had a profound awakening to his true identity as timeless presence. After Jean’s death, Stephan met Adyashanti, and in 2001 Adya gave him Dharma transmission and invited him to teach. Trained as a psychotherapist, Stephan also offers individual spiritual counseling and mentoring sessions to people throughout the world. His approach blends direct, experiential, nondual wisdom with the insights of Western psychology to support students in realizing who they really are while inquiring into the stories and patterns of thinking and behaving that continue to cause suffering. A. Hameed Ali was born in Kuwait in 1944. At the age of eighteen, he moved to the USA to study at the University of California in Berkeley. Hameed was working on his Ph.D. in physics when he reached a turning point in his life and destiny that led him more and more into inquiring into the psychological and spiritual aspects of human nature. Hameed's interest in the truth of human nature and the true nature of reality resulted in the creation and unfoldment of the Diamond Approach®: “The Diamond Approach is a path of wisdom, an approach to the investigation of Reality and work on oneself that leads to human maturity and liberation. Because of our particular vision of Reality it is not completely accurate to think of this approach as spiritual work, for this work does not separate the spiritual from the psychological, neither does it see these two as separate from the physical everyday life and scientific investigation of the content of perception. However, because we live in a society where the prevailing thought is that of the separated facets of Reality, the closest category recognized in this mentality, to our approach, is that of a spiritual path or exploration.” Some of Hameed's many books: The Power of Divine Eros: The Illuminating Force of Love in Everyday Life The Unfolding Now: Realizing Your True Nature through the Practice of Presence Brilliancy: The Essence of Intelligence (Diamond Body Series) Essence With the Elixir of Enlightenment: The Diamond Approach to Inner Realization Website: ahalmaas.com Transcript of this interview 2nd interview with Hameed. 110. Sharon Landrith Feb 17, 2012
    Show notes

Sharon is a gifted intuitive and a spiritual teacher in the lineage of Adyashanti. Sharon has a devotion and great love of the Truth. Adyashanti asked her to teach 2003 and guide those genuinely drawn to the path of Truth. Since then, Sharon continues to deepen into and embody this Truth herself. She invites you to “Come home…” to That which you’ve always been. In her presence you’ll taste a palpable expression of love and intimacy that allows you to feel safe dropping into the deep vulnerability required to know yourself as the All. Sharon offers support for the required shift of identity that is both direct and tailored to each person's journey. Her teachings are based on her deep realization of silence and the way silence expresses itself in form. She notes, “Often there is still a thread that says the ‘me is going to get it; the ‘me’ is going to wake up. And it just isn’t true. It actually wakes up out of the ‘me’." So, in her teaching, Sharon emphasizes how silence wakes up in the body and how the embodiment process is actualized. She is well qualified in this endeavor by her many years as an intuitive counselor. Since she has the ability to “read” the physical and energetic body, she is uniquely able to help unlock patterns that inhibit realization and the embodiment process that follows. Show notes

Sue Berkey is a multi-talented artist, spiritual practitioner, and teacher based in Fairfield, Iowa, where she has lived for over 25 years. Sue is recognized for her deep contentment with life in Fairfield, preferring her peaceful and fulfilling routine to travel or seeking excitement elsewhere. Artistic Career: Sue holds an MFA in filmmaking and sculpture, expressing herself primarily through sculpture—her first artistic love—but also through film, painting, and drawing. Locally, she is known for her unique outdoor installation art, such as the hay bale stars displayed near the reservoir, which have attracted online attention. Yoga and Healing Work: A pioneer in her community, Sue was Fairfield’s first full-time Hatha yoga teacher, with over 15 years of teaching experience. Her style involves guiding students to challenge their comfort zones, emphasizing inner growth through sustained poses and deep self-exploration. In addition to yoga, Sue is a “rebirther,” facilitating a specific form of pranayama (breathing exercises) that connect individuals to early formative experiences, even birth, and help process and heal suppressed emotions. She has worked with hundreds of clients, supporting them as they face and integrate their deepest fears and emotional blockages. Spiritual Perspective and Awakening: Sue describes herself as someone who experienced a profound spiritual awakening triggered by a teaching from Adi Da, leading her to a realization of simplicity and personal mastery in life. She lives free of judgment, embracing the full range of human emotions without attachment or repression. For her, spiritual liberation encompasses both the ability to feel deeply and to let go, maintaining wholeness and contentment regardless of external circumstances. Sue’s spiritual life began at a young age, being drawn to church and the search for inner meaning as early as six years old. She considers diverse life experiences—including being a single mother and even cheerleading—as spiritual practices, acknowledging that all aspects of life contribute to her growth. Though familiar with TM (Transcendental Meditation), Sue found greater resonance and joy with yoga and rebirthing. Philosophy and Approach: Sue is passionate about human liberation—not only spiritual but also emotional and economic. She guides others in healing and forgiveness, especially those nearing the end of life, emphasizing the importance of gratitude and cleaning up unfinished relationships. Her approach is practical yet expansive; she believes people should strive to express their gifts and not wait for external circumstances to feel fulfilled. Both ambitious and content, Sue aspires to make more large-scale sculptures internationally, share her teachings, and expand her impact as a healer. She embodies the paradox of inner satisfaction paired with ever-expanding creative goals. Sue’s teaching style is highly interactive, blending physical practice with philosophical and emotional insights. She encourages students to embrace all emotions, resolve interpersonal conflicts, and strive for honesty and direct communication, fostering real freedom and compassion. Sue Berkey’s life and work reflect a blend of artistry, spiritual depth, emotional liberation, and social consciousness. Her story illustrates how awakening can coexist with vibrant personality, ambition, and a passion for service, proving that spiritual realization can be deeply integrated with everyday life, creativity, and community engagement.
