    Show notes

Karyn’s spiritual journey was documented in her book Findings from the Hunting Party’s Scout, which chronicles her four most intense years of spiritual growth as an ordinary working soccer mom into an embodied awakened faith leader. After a life-changing spontaneous awakening she shared her Toltec teacher’s teachings and her own experiences as an Interfaith minister ordained by One Spirit Seminary in NYC. In 2019 Karyn was certified as a Mindfulness Meditation teacher taught by Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield in their Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program Program. Incorporating methods of mindfulness, The Four Agreements and mystical teachings of the world’s religion into her talks, workshops and writings, Karyn shares wisdom in a non-denominational, dogma free style that is accessible to people who are searching for an open spiritual path that they can call their own. On her Substack, Karyn’s Findings, she released Inviting Grace In, a curated full year of quotes to guide readers through Four seasons of spiritual growth: Spring-Uplifting Spirit, Summer-Shifting Perspectives, Autumn-Recognizing Wisdom, Winter-Expanding the understanding of our being. As a life long social activist, Karyn’s posts highlight ways we can mindfully and compassionately co-create a world where all life is uplifted with a new understanding of ourselves and the source of existence we often call God. Since we have a gap in the schedule I thought I'd put up a recent video of Yvonne Kason of Spiritual Awakenings International (SAI) interviewing me. SAI is a non-profit worldwide network of individuals and groups who are interested in collaborating to raise awareness, network, and share personal experience relating to diverse types of Spiritually Transformative Experiences, to raise global spiritual awareness. From the description on their YouTube channel: "A Conversation with Rick Archer of Buddha at the Gas Pump" was presented to Spiritual Awakenings International on May 18, 2024. Rick Archer shares his personal spiritual journey from childhood, through the turbulent 1960's, his introduction to Transcendental Meditation, to the launch of his popular podcast on spirituality, Buddha at the Gas Pump. Rick shares his spiritual awakening story, starting with his complicated family life, learning to meditate in 1968, and his years as a Transcendental Meditation teacher. He describes his inspiration and motivation to start Buddha at the Gas Pump in 2009. He also shares insights and experiences he’s had while doing this now very popular spiritually focused podcast. Rick also talks about the importance of ethical behavior for spiritual leaders and the Association for Spiritual Integrity, which he helped found. 71. Julie Chimes Jun 10, 2011
    Show notes

Julie Chimes was living a successful life in London when a violent attack nearly took her life and unexpectedly opened the door to a profound spiritual transformation. In this conversation, she shares the extraordinary aftermath of that event: the inner voice she called Veritas, experiences of other realities, a new relationship to time, and the way her life gradually became a process of healing, reinvention, and deeper understanding.
Julie speaks candidly about the shock of surviving such brutality, the challenge of making sense of what happened, and the surprising ways her awareness expanded afterward. She also reflects on the long arc of recovery, the importance of compassion, the search for authentic spiritual nourishment, and how writing A Stranger in Paradise helped her integrate and share her story. Her reflections on change, resilience, and living without regret are both moving and practical.
Julie’s story is unusual, but the questions it raises are universal: What changes when life is stripped down to essentials? How do we respond when reality no longer seems solid? And how can suffering become a doorway to wisdom, creativity, and a fuller embrace of life?

    70. Allan Morelock Jun 05, 2011
    Show notes

Allan Morelock shares a wide-ranging spiritual journey that moves from early childhood remembrance and fierce seeking, through decades of meditation and devotion, into a deep exploration of embodied awakening. He speaks candidly about his years teaching Transcendental Meditation, the powerful influence of Sathya Sai Baba and Shirdi Sai Baba, and the profound shift from a transcendent realization of infinite Being into a more human, heart-centered process of integration.
A recurring theme in this conversation is the tension and harmony between the absolute and the personal: consciousness and individuality, liberation and embodiment, freedom and shadow, realization and relationship. Allan describes how his understanding evolved through Waking Down in Mutuality and how the question “What does Life want of me?” became central to his teaching and practice. He also reflects on the role of Divine Mother, the value of individuality, and why gratitude and benevolence may be the clearest signs of authentic awakening.
This interview offers a thoughtful look at awakening not as an escape from life, but as a fuller participation in it. Allan’s perspective is warm, devotional, and grounded in lived experience, with plenty of practical wisdom about how realization can mature into kindness, service, and a deeper appreciation of the mystery of being human.

    61. Tim Freke Mar 27, 2011
    Show notes

Video is in two parts. Part 1: Part 2: Tim is a philosopher or ‘lover of wisdom’ who is pioneering a simple new way to experience a profound spiritual awakening, which fully embraces our everyday humanity. He has spent his life exploring the awakened state he often simply calls ‘The Mystery Experience’. Tim has articulated his own revolutionary ‘philosophy of lucid living’ designed to help people go beyond ideas and actually experience a ‘deep awake’ state, which replaces out-dated spiritual jargon with clear new concepts which are simple to understand. He has also developed a profoundly simple ‘Mystery of the Moment’ attention technique and a number of powerful ‘I to I’ practices, which quickly awaken practitioners to ‘The Mystery Experience’ and help them commune with others in oneness and ‘Big Love’. Tim has an honours degree in philosophy and is an internationally respected authority on world spirituality. He is the author of over thirty books that have established his reputation as a scholar and free-thinker. He is best known for his groundbreaking work on Christian Gnosticism with his close friend Peter Gandy, including The Jesus Mysteries, which was a top 10 best-seller in the UK and USA, and a ‘Book of the Year’ in the UK Daily Telegraph. In recent years he has articulated his own ‘lucid philosophy’ in The Laughing Jesus, Lucid Living, and How Long is Now? Tim is also an innovative ‘stand-up philosopher’ – a concept he developed from the ancient idea of a philosopher as a traveling ‘spiritual entertainer’ who transformed people’s consciousness. He is a passionate and playful communicator, whose enthusiasm for life is contagious. He is often featured in documentary films and chat shows broadcast by the global media, such as the BBC and the History Channel. Tim is the founder of The Alliance for Lucid Living, (The ALL), an organization dedicated to our collective awakening. He lives with his wife Debbie and their two children in Glastonbury, England.
