Lisa Carrillo - Expanding Our Capacity for Joy Although Lisa worked as a chemical engineer, spirituality always was the priority in her life. In 2009, at a silent retreat, her thought-based identity dropped away, and she saw only the single flow of benevolence in all that is. When some of those thoughts returned a few weeks later (less convincing than before), there also came a deep curiosity to inquire into those thoughts. She developed many tools to return to a lived experience of the deeper knowing. Both of her books share these tools. All that is is a vibrant expression erupting from a single full emptiness. Brief history of Norio: I always loved wheels ever since I was a small child. The first set of wheels was a bicycle, which by age nine, I was riding 40 miles at a time. Age 19, I drove a taxi in Boston for five years. I began driving a truck, as well as greyhound buses, at age 25. I began what I refer to as "true inquiry" while driving my truck in 2003, thereby being able to see the silence, from which "Norio brain" could see all that I thought I am is only an illusion. 184. Who’s Driving the Dreambus? – Tim Freke and Lisa Cairns Jul 27, 2013
    Show notes

In Who’s Driving the Dreambus? filmmakers Boris and Claire Jansch go on a personal journey to unravel what it means to be alive. This radical and challenging documentary ventures into the heart of the mystery of identity, flipping the idea of spiritual endeavor on its head, revealing a message so profound and yet so simple that it might just end the search. Who’s Driving the Dreambus? LIVE was a two-day conference held in London in August 2013. This is a conversation with two of the speakers at that conference. Tim Freke is the standup philosopher – a concept he developed from the ancient idea of a philosopher as a traveling ‘spiritual entertainer’ who transformed people’s consciousness. He is pioneering an accessible new way to experience a profound spiritual awakening, which fully embraces our tender, vulnerable, flawed humanity. He has spent his life exploring the awakened state he often simply calls the ‘mystery experience’ and is able to guide others directly to it. Other interviews with Tim here, here, and here. Lisa Cairns talks worldwide with people about non-duality. Oneness. The aliveness that always is – no matter what is imagined in it – subject/object, good/bad, right/wrong, beauty/ugly, me/you. It has always been this – life undivided – with a bittersweet daydream of separation. She points to the illusory dream of “I” which seems to give the energetic appearance of separation from life itself, and to the boundless freedom that has always been here – that never left and was never lost. 159. Petrica Verdes, Translator of Ilie Cioara’s Works Feb 12, 2013
    Show notes

Ilie Cioara was an enlightened mystic who did not belong to any lineage or tradition of awakening. Jerry Katz describes his writings: “This work stands independently of ancient traditions, well known sages, and the current nonduality scene. That is refreshing. Ilie Cioara's works are among the finest books on nondual consciousness." Like Ramana Maharshi, Krishnamurti, and Eckhart Tolle, his is a simple message of discovering our inner divine nature through the silence of the mind. His original writings in 16 books describe the experience of meditation and enlightenment, as well as the practice of “Self-knowing” using all-encompassing Attention. Born in 1916, Cioara lived his life in almost complete isolation in Eastern Europe, in a communist country, completely oblivious of nonduality, Zen, etc. Originally a Christian mystic, he practiced a mantra for over 20 years. One day, he felt an intuitive impulse to drop the mantra, and just practice the silence of the mind, by listening to the noises on the street, in the now. After following this practice for a few years, one morning, as he was waking up from his sleep, he suddenly experienced Enlightenment. His description of meditation is fresh and devoid of any tradition and jargon. Four books by Ilie Cioara have been published in English so far, translated by Petrica Verdes: The Silence of the Mind I Am Boundlessness The Wondrous Journey: Into the Depth of Our Being Life Is Eternal Newness Petrica Verdes (Deva Daan) is an ordinary person. No ego trip, no need to be somebody, no need to be special, no need to gather diplomas, Ph.D.'s, qualifications, trainings, no need to impress, no need to be famous or influence people. No need to go on a trip of the “ego”. Just happy living an ordinary life, because this life is already extraordinary as it is, an ongoing unfolding miracle. Sometimes he serves in humbleness as an instrument for Spirit. Not wanting to write anything or teach anyone - sometimes silence speaks through him, not knowing what the next word will be. Mehrdad Mizani was born in the southern part of Iran, moved to Teheran in his childhood, finishing his schooling and graduating from the Teheran Music Conservatory with a focus in Bassoon and Piano. He traveled extensively throughout Iran and moved to England in 1974 to further his musical studies, playing with orchestras and bands throughout several countries. In his travels through Iran and Europe, he discovered religions, philosophies and psychology. In 1985, he moved to the US with his family, continually seeking out experiences that gave him increased insight into the human situation. After coming to understand the importance of self-realization, and the dynamics of the emotional relationship between people, he began writing songs together with a friend, Kate Tsubata, to express those realizations and experiences. The culmination of his lifelong search was the realization of the element of heart as the essence of all things. In concerts and public speaking, he has shared this message of self-discovery through the development of the heart.
