Memorial Day edition: What will the future of college football look like? May 27, 2024
    Show notes

Welcome to the Memorial Day edition of the Bucknuts Morning 5. First and foremost, our deepest gratitude for all of the men and women who gave their lives fighting for our country. They are the heroes. And they allow us to do things like enjoy college football.

Speaking of college football, what will the future of the sport look like after the landmark settlement last Thursday which will allow schools to directly pay their athletes? How will the money be divided? What might happen to non-revenue sports?

All of that and much more is coming your way on the Memorial Day 5ish.

Schools can now pay players directly | What this means for OSU, future of college sports May 24, 2024
    Show notes

A landmark settlement on Thursday between the NCAA and three federal antitrust cases will pave the way for Ohio State and other major conference members to directly pay their players. The settlement will pay "roughly $2.7 billion in damages to past and current athletes over the next 10 years," per ESPN. But the aspect of the settlement that we will all remember is that the parties have agreed to a revenue-sharing system where schools can pay up to $20 million to their players.

But how will that $20 million be divided? Will the football players get the vast majority of that money, since they are the ones generating the most revenue? And will it be equally distributed among all players? Will the star players get more? And how exactly would that be determined?

Yes, we have a lot of questions about this. Another one being ... what is going to happen to a lot of the non-revenue sports? Are we going to look up 5 or 10 years from now and see far less non-revenue sports across collegiate athletics? Also: Are we headed down a path where the Big Ten and SEC break away from the NCAA?

Dave Biddle and Jonah Booker discuss all of that and much more on the Friday 5ish.

Rashida lawsuit v Florida start of a trend? | Buckeye 'crootin updates | O-line optimism? May 22, 2024
    Show notes

Jaden Rashida's $10 million lawsuit against Florida, including head coach Billy Napier, is fascinating. We wonder if this is basically a one-off, or perhaps the start of a trend in college football when NIL promises are not kept. Matt Baxendell joins Dave Biddle to discuss that, plus:

    * Thoughts on the Buckeyes' 2025 recruiting class and what might transpire over the next two months.

    * Ohio State's 2024 offensive line is the biggest question mark on the team. But is there reason for optimism when analyzing the Buckeyes' O-line?

All of that and much more is coming your way on the Wednesday 5ish.

    Buckeyes speaking Ffrench? | Moore intrigue | Hoban's heroes May 21, 2024
    Show notes

Is there room at the WRU Inn? Of course there is.

There's been lots of chatter surrounding elite '25 pass catchers Jaime French and Dakorien Moore.

Are the Buckeyes legit contenders for each?

What other receivers rank high on the Hartline Board?

Bill Kurelic and Mark Porter are here to discuss that. Is that all?

    Hardly.

We dive deep on Na'eem Offord, Vernell Brown, Trey McNutt, Dorian Brew and others.

And as if that was not enough, we have exclusive video from Akron Hoban workouts featuring several (possible) future Buckeyes.

OSU's title odds continue to improve | Vibes on Trey McNutt? | Marv sued by Fanatics May 20, 2024
    Show notes

We bounce around to several Ohio State topics on today's show as Dan Rubin joins Dave Biddle. Items on the docket include:

    * When we did the show last Monday, the Buckeyes' odds to win the 2024 national championship were +425. That was an improvement over the +500 odds that OSU had in late April. Well, now the odds have improved once again. Ohio State is now listed at +350 to win it all, just barely behind Georgia at +325. Then it's a big jump to the team with the third-lowest odds -- Texas -- at +750. Oregon is next at +900. We just find it interesting that the Buckeyes' odds improve seemingly each week, while the odds for the vast majority of other teams have held steady.

    * The nation's No. 1 safety recruit, Trey McNutt, is going to take all of his official visits between May 31 and the end of June. What are our vibes as far as the Buckeyes landing McNutt?

    * Any concern that Ohio State might lose the nation's No. 2 corner, Na'eem Offord? Or is he just having some fun with the process and there is nothing to worry about here?

    * Here is one we didn't expect to see: Fanatics is suing Marvin Harrison Jr., claiming he breached a "term sheet" agreement last year.

    * Mike Conley Jr. continues to have a very good -- and frankly underrated -- NBA career. Conley, 36, is the starting point guard of the Minnesota Timberwolves, who upset the defending NBA champion Denver Nuggets in Game 7 of the Western Conference semifinals last night. It was 17 years ago when Conley helped lead the Buckeyes to the 2007 national championship game.

All of that and more is coming your way on the Monday 5ish.

Expectations for Buckeyes' LB corps? | TJ Alford still in | Blake Woodby out May 17, 2024
    Show notes

It is Friday and that means Jonah Booker and Dave Biddle talking shop on the Morning 5. Here is the docket for today's show:

    * What can be expected from Ohio State's linebackers this season?

    * Linebacker Tarvos "T.J." Alford remains committed to the Buckeyes in their 2025 class.

    * However, cornerback Blake Woodby de-committed on Thursday.

    * Will OSU add Dorian Brew and Trey McNutt to their 2025 class?

All of that and more is coming your way on the Friday 5ish.
