Will defensive scheme change with new co-DC? Jan 10, 2020
    Show notes

Ohio State used an interesting defensive scheme in 2019 with three cornerbacks and one high safety.

With Jeff Hafley moving on and Kerry Coombs likely to replace him, will the scheme change for the Buckeyes in 2020? Or will it remain the same?

Jonah Booker joins Dave Biddle for today's show and JBook gives his answer on that, plus:

    * Who will be OSU's starting defensive backs in 2020 other than Shaun Wade?

    * Ohio State landed high four-star offensive tackle Donovan Jackson. It looks like the 2021 class will be even better than the 2020 class for the Buckeyes.

    * Will the Buckeyes seal the deal with Cameron Martinez?

    * What is up with Billy Price with the Bengals?

All of that and more is coming at you on the Friday 5ish.

The rich get richer Jan 09, 2020
    Show notes

The beat goes on ... and on. Ohio State's recruiting exploits are well documented - and for good reason.

Yesterday, the Buckeyes received a commitment from the nation's No. 1 offensive guard. Out of Texas. We will let you know just how awesome that is and why it deserves some serious praise. But we also take a look at an in-state safety that committed this week in an effort to frame the Ohio State recruiting approach.

    Also:

    * C.J. Stroud: Just what is Ohio State getting in the Cali signal caller? Why kind of guy is he? What type of leader?

    * Paris Johnson: Still the Blind Sider we love to see? Yes.

247Sports Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong is here to wax poetic on the aforementioned.

Recruiting roundup: Johnson's in; Jackson to follow? Legit shot with Gibbs? Jan 08, 2020
    Show notes

It is a recruiting-themed show today with what is now the late signing period in college football beginning in roughly one month.

The People's Champ, Matt Baxendell, joins Dave Biddle to discuss the following:

    * Ohio State's 2020 class has 25 commits, including 24 players who have already signed with the Buckeyes. The lone "holdout" so to speak is verbal commit Cameron Martinez. Will he be a Buckeye a month from now? Or is he looking elsewhere?

    * Running back Jahmyr Gibbs will make an official visit to Ohio State the weekend of Jan. 17-18. How much of a chance do the Buckeyes have of flipping Gibbs from his Georgia Tech commitment, and keeping him away from big-time southern programs such as Georgia, LSU and others?

    * In the 2021 class, Ohio State has the No. 1 haul in the nation at this early stage with eight commitments. The latest being three-star safety Jaylen Johnson from Cincinnati LaSalle who committed on Tuesday.

    * High four-star offensive tackle Donovan Jackson will make his annoucement today at his high school in Texas. The Buckeyes are expected to land him, which would make this already excellent 2021 class even better for Ryan Day and OSU.

    * Kerry Coombs returning to Ohio State might be the worst-kept secret in the world. What does Bax think of this pending development?

All of that and more is coming at you on a jam-packed edition of the Wednesday 5ish.

    Wade's return | Duane's 2021 must gets Jan 07, 2020
    Show notes

Recruiting is the lifeblood of any quality football program. Sometimes that means attracting the nation's best prep talent to Columbus. Sometimes that means keeping them in the city.

See Wade, Shaun. Ohio State was facing a 2020 season with zero experience in the secondary. With Wade's decision to return, the Buckeyes have a first-team All-American to build around. Just a bit different. Just how impactful is Wade's decision for the Buckeyes?

Back to the recruiting of prep stars. The focus is shifting to the Class of 2021. Duane Long is here to share some names. These are the guys Duane is head over heels for in the class. You can expect each to be a recurring name here on the BM5.

Tomorrow is also a big day possibly for Ohio State's Class of 2021 plan: Top offensive line target Donovan Jackson will announce his college decision.

We get into all of it.

Spend 5ish with us today, Nutters.

Wade a minute! Coombs still coming? 2020 expecations Jan 06, 2020
    Show notes

Many expected that Shaun Wade would turn pro following the 2019 college football season. However, the third-year sophomore defensive back decided to return to Ohio State in 2020 to be the Buckeyes' spotlight player on defense.

Steve Helwagen joins Dave Biddle on today's show to discuss what Wade's return means for OSU, plus:

    * What will the secondary look like for the Buckeyes in 2020? Who will be the other three starters alongside Wade?

    * Looks like we will have to wait another week for Kerry Coombs to be announced as Ohio State's new co-defensive coordinator/DB coach, right? Or is that not quite a done deal yet? (Think the former.)

    * What are very early expectations for the 2020 Buckeyes?

All of that and more is coming at you on the Monday 5ish.

Four new starting DBs in 2020? Coombs coming back? Jan 03, 2020
    Show notes

The Ohio State Buckeyes will likely have four new starting defensive backs in 2020, and they will definitley have a new DB coach/co-defensive coordinator.

Patrick Murphy joins Dave Biddle for today's show to discuss that and much more.

    * Which young DBs are expected to step up for OSU?

    * Is Shaun Wade turning pro tomorrow?

    * Will Kerry Coombs be replacing Jeff Hafley on the Buckeyes' staff?

    * If he does, what is our opinion of the move?

All of that and more is coming at you on the Friday 5ish.

Buckeyes take over Texas Jan 02, 2020
    Show notes

How do you know Ohio State's future is bright?

You check in with 247Sports Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong at the All-American Bowl in San Antonio. He then tells you how good all the future Buckeyes in attendance are.

Which is what we are doing here today on the inaugural BM5 of 2020. After we relay a Fiesta Bowl story about Wiltfong's in-the-moment response to targeting, he breaks down the future Buckeyes showing off in Texas.

We also discuss a Class of 2020 prospect in attendance Ohio State hopes to add to the fold.

So we look forward on today's show with Duane Long.

Why will Ohio State be right back in the College Football Playoff next season?

We lay out a route to redemption.

    * Sam Hart beats for the Buckeyes. What to make of the newest Ohio State tight end recruit?

All of that and more is coming at you so spend 5ish with us today.

Still salty, replacing assistants, recruiting updates Dec 30, 2019
    Show notes

Bill Greene joins Dave Biddle for today's show, and the topics include:

    * Takeaways from Ohio State's heartbreaking loss to Clemson on Saturday in the College Football Playoff semifinal. Yes, we're still salty about it. The Buckeyes made plenty of mistakes, but the replay official was the worst we've seen.

    * The departures of Jeff Hafley and Mike Yurcich from the program and who might replace them.

    * Which recruits are remaining on Ohio State's board for the 2020 class?

    * Who might be next to join the Buckeyes' 2021 class?

All of that and more is coming at you on the Monday 5ish.

Bucknuts Almost Live: So that sucked Dec 29, 2019
    Show notes

Misery loves company. That's the theme today.

Ohio State's dream season ended Saturday night with a nightmare against Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl that amounted to a 29-23 defeat.

Missed opportunities. Referees. Replay officials. All played starring roles.

Bill Kurelic is here. Matt Baxendell is here.

We will get through this together.

Spend some quality time with Bucknuts this Sunday a.m.
